We stayed for a week at the site. It's very central to Kirkwall and has three supermarkets within 1/4 mile.

Toilets and showers are clean and tidy and sufficient in numbers to prevent waiting in the morning.

We had a hardstand with power and everything worked perfectly.

Nothing went wrong so we didn't need to complain about anything.

Had 3 nights staying in Grainbank camping pod. Very good accommodation. Had all the facilities I needed. Very comfortable. I appreciated the key safe as I arrived quite late and was able to get into the accommodation right away.

The toilet and shower block was conveniently very close and these facilities were very good too. Site warden was available during the day

The Picky site is perfect for me. Clean, hot showers, lots of space between pitches and very helpful staff. A short walk takes you right to the centre of town and Kirkwall is pretty central for sightseeing throughout the island. I’ve visited Orkney several times but first time staying at the Picky - will definitely stay here in future. It is also reasonably priced compared to other sites on the islands, so well done Orkney Council for keeping it affordable.The only disappointment for me was the cafe at the adjoining centre which had very little to offer other than sandwiches and cakes. There are lots of places to eat in town but it would have been handy to have somewhere so close provide alternatives to the snacks on offer, Orkney is amazing & the Picky is the best site on the islands imo....Read less.

The best thing was the staff friendliness. I had a lot of equipment and it was no problem to store it. Always a friendly face. And good attention to cleanliness. The caravan park is a very nice location to visit and stay. All major locations in kirkwall are within walking distance. The facilities are not the newest but very tidy and well maintained by the owners of the park. The pitches are nice and there is enough space inbetween to have privacy. We have camped at Pickacoy twice now and each time have enjoyed the facilties at the campsite .The site is situated within walking distance of shops and amenities of Kirkwall.It benefits from being right next to the leisure centre with pool, gym and cafe.

The site is level for tents and there is some shelter from trees and shrubs .Which help break the wind ,it was very windy when we visited.There are a good number of shower and toilet facilities.There is also a laundry with drying racks.The kitchen area has a number of sinks fridge, freezer , microwave ,kettle and toaster .There is also lots of information about local attractions available in a large lounge area.The staff are friendly and helpful....Read less.

I’d read some previous reviews and was a bit apprehensive. But the site was quiet, campers were respectful. There were plenty of facilities (with toilet/sink/shower options). There was never a queue and they were always clean. I liked the common room too for drying my hair and charging phones etc. The location was great too for the town and supermarkets and also a walk around the Peerie Sea! Thank you! PS. The Orkney Caravan Park is a perfect location for visiting Kirkwall. It provides all facilities and has plenty of room on the gras besides the hard standing sites. We booked online one night for a 7m-motorhome and were told on arrival that we can extend the stay the next day for another night if needed. However the next morning we had to leave because all hard standing pitches were fully booked. When we claimed, that there's still lot of space on the gras and that motorhomes are already standing on the gras, we were told "Yes, that true, however the computer systems doesn't allow booking on the gras".

So your computer system prevents making more turnover.

The facilities were excellent. Showers and toilets were spotless. Copious dish washing and laundry facilities and comfy lounge area which was to our delight was dog friendly and contained lots of local information and the staff were very helpful to adress and queries or problems.

I just have one suggestion that could alleviate the issue we witnessed of an un booked caravaner accessing the site after staff had departed, who drove around the site at a reckelless speed trying to find a pitch. That is to change the barrier code more frequently as they had accessed the site using the same code from a previous visits (we were told this by the duty warden the following day). It left us feeling a little vulnerable....Read less.

I was only able to stay one night at the campsite, as it was fully booked on the other nights. However, it is an ideal base for visiting Orkney, and I would definitely be better organised for a future trip. The facilities are ideal - I much prefer the “en-suite” provision the campsite provides. The community room is a nice touch, but it was disappointing to see dishes on several draining boards, while people chatted elsewhere. The pitches were well laid out, and I was pleased with the one I had. Being so centrally located, the campsite was within walking distance of Kirkwall itself. Both Tesco and Lidl supermarkets were practically “next door”, so stocking up on groceries was straightforward. Using my concessionary travel pass was easy - the #9 local bus, as well as the x1, stopped practically outside the campsite, and the town’s bus station was also within easy reach. The weather during my stay wasn’t great, but I hope to be luckier on my next visit, and explore further afield then....Read less.

A straightforward and easy option for accommodation. The only issue was that on my booking documentation it did not mention which pitch I had booked or have a map of the site. I found out afterwards that an email had been sent regarding where I was to pitch at 6 pm on the day of my arrival. I had already set off on the boat so did not see the email until it was too late. Campsite is nice and clean, including the washrooms. WiFi was, as on most camping, a problem so had to just rely on 4G instead. Staff is very, very friendly, sooo much better than on resorts in e.g. France or Italy. We had not expected that it would be so very busy already in June. After a first onenighter, we soon learned that also on Islands as remote as Orkney, you need to reserve upfront. Big supermarkets are at walking distance and so is the town centre. Absolutely love this campsite. It’s got the best toilet block I’ve ever seen, free very hot showers with under floor heating. The kitchen is even better with free washing up liquid. There’s a free to use fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave!

Staff were lovely. The motorhome pitches were pretty level, and well spaced away from each other.

I didn't use the lounge, but it seemed fine. The kitchen is only ever as clean as the last person who used it, if I'd seen that person leave the kitchen, I'd have asked them to come back and clean it. But there are 2 or 3 sinks, and all the stuff one needs to prepare a meal or just a warm drink.

The launderette was a bit of a disaster. Either rhe machine didn't spin, or the dryers didn't get warm. I put in enough money for 1hr 30 minutes, it still wasn't dry. So I spike to the warden in the morning, she gave me money for another 30 minutes, and the stuff still wasn't dry. So I gave up.

Kirkwall is a lovely town. Beautiful cathedral, lots of neolithic remains near there. Go early or late in the day, to avoid the cruise ships. Lidl, Tesco, and Coop very close to the campsite. Easy, interesting walk into town....Read less.

This site is a very short drive from the ferry and late at night, armed with the entry code for the gate we quickly found our pitch number posted on the shower block window and got settled. We found the site to be level and nicely landscaped with lovely areas for tents here and there. The facilities were excellent and very clean, plenty of shower rooms with loo and washbasin in them(& underfloor heating!) plus some separate toilets too. A communal sitting room, kitchen with kettle, toaster and microwave and excellent laundry room. Leisure centre right next door and playpark.

It was a very easy walk into town and there is a Tesco, Lidl and Coop 5 minute walk from the site. Good dog walks from the site.

Several eateries within walking distance but can all be busy if a cruise ship is in, which there was almost every day.

Only downside was the WiFi, it was pretty pathetic. Telephone reception also poor....Read less.

Booked the site a week before the planned date of departure. Had to cancel at short notice due to circumstances beyond my control. Told that there would be no refund as cancellation required 30 days notice according to the policy. I never had 30 days! Impossible. I pointed this out and was told it would be looked at

I have been coming to Orkney for over 40 years and really enjoy the islands, this however, has jaded my view. Things happen beyond control as in my case. I asked for a refund but this in my opinion was dismissed without question. The people in Orkney, in my opinion, are warm hearted and welcoming. However i feel my request was not considered properly and certainly not by a warm and welcoming

I have just returned from a fabulous 5 night stay on this site. Site was extremely clean and well maintained with a warden on site until 8pm. It is in an excellent location for exploring Kirkwall and the rest of the island. The only downside pf the whole experience for me was the poor wifi - which cased problems for me when when trying to plan trip or excursions as it was slow and at times nonexistence....Read less.

Staff lovely and friendly. Camping pods very comfortable, and site itself well-planned. Wifi could be better, as signal was weak even inside the lodge, but not the end of the world. We loved our stay in the Grainbank Pod. The separate bedroom in the pod gave us space and privacy and we were very close to the bathroom/service block, so this was very handy. Parking was also great. The facilities were very clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Grocery shops are a quick drive. The site is convenient in Kirkwall and is an excellent spot for accessing sites in Orkney.
