The pod we stayed in was clean and basic which was as advertised, I wasn’t expecting anything else. I felt, however, that it was actually quite a big space and had a lot of potential to convert it into a glamping pod with a shower and little kitchen. The storage area and cupboards could be improved. I loved that it had a no dog policy.

The facilities were clean, however, other customers were bringing their dogs into the shower facilities and I found that a bit disgusting. I probably wouldn’t stay anywhere I had to share shower and bathroom facilities with other customers again.

If you have a family this is for you, good central location, with a Play park next door, good hard standing & tarmac roads. Personally, I found the children riding their bikes everywhere slightly dangerous. The caravan that turned up very late next to my pitch was inflating an airbed at 23;55hrs very annoying, as the pitches are quite close so you can hear everything. The toilets & shower block: the previous shower occupant hadn’t cleaned the floor (inconsiderate), the toilets/showers need a bit of a touch up in places. They say they clean them daily but I get the feeling they don’t clean around the taps unless it’s really messy as there was a lot on lint dust!...Read less.

A nice site with very clean facilities. The site is an easy walking distance from the centre of Kirkwall and also various supermarkets (Tesco, Co-op and Aldi). Our only niggle was that we were allocated a pitch which was difficult to access with a campervan, due to concrete walls round the refuse area. It would have been nice to have been able to choose our pitch from the ones available (of which there were a few which would have been more suitable)....Read less.

The site is 15 mins walk from Kirkwall, supermarkets are even closer. Nice park across the road for dog walks and parkrun.

Its central in Orkney so a great base if not touring and the ferries to the islands leave from here

My wife did not feel comfortable going to showers at night as people sitting in lounge area drinking.

I was happy with the facilities, the cleanliness of the facilities. We only saw one staff member who was very helpful and pleasant. The only negative was a bit of an odour in the Magnus hut? Besides that it was suitable for our needs. The site itself was very clean and tidy. It is a good distance from facilities, easy enough to walk to but far enough away not to be bothered by the noise of the town centre. It is also close to the ferry terminal which was handy. My husband and i stayed on the site for 16 nights. The site is well organised with lovely hot showers in individual cubicles for any sex to use all with lockable doors. These have a shower curtain, seat, hooks, toilet & sink with a peddle bin also in each room. There are 4 rooms with baby changing facilities and a toilet and sink in there too with bin.

I used the laundry room which has washing machines & tumble dryers these cost £5 (in £1 coins) two large sinks for hand washing, and two large air dryers, the room is warm and so washing can be left overnight to dry (which i did)

There is a dish washing room (I didn’t use this) then a communal lounging area for people to meet, this had lots of books, toys and games for children to use while they are there.

The Warden was usually around either in the office or cleaning so if you have any problems they are there to help or give advice. The pitches are well set out and kept clean and tidy. There are bins for re-cycling. Perfect site!...Read less.

Very clean and tidy site and great central location. Main reason we stayed was with the leisure centre pool being next door for us to take our 4yr old son in days of poor weather. On arrival we were informed the pool had been closed for a number of months and the cinema had just recently broke. There is no information on the campsite page stating any of this but have the centre advertised with 20% discount offered to people staying. WiFi around site also did not work....Read less.

I have been returning to this campsite regularly for the last 20 years and am always impressed with the friendliness of staff, high standard of facilities, cleanliness and general upkeep, accessibility to local amenities. I would highly recommend this campsite to considerate and respectful camper.

Orkney is a super place to visit and this campsite is always my first choice.

On this visit (July 2026) I found that everything was to it's usual highest standard......except for the lack of consideration of a few other campers. Here are a couple of examples:-

- the kitchen area was always full of either dirty dishes or dishes that had been half-heartedly washed and not put away.

- Some people were bringing their dogs into the lounge area to feed them and allowing dogs to lay on the chairs. On one occasion I had to wash the tables before use because they were full of dog hair. This was our third time at this site snd once again we enjoyed our week’s stay. The site is well maintained and the wardens are always around if you need them.

My only negative comment is that the shower facilities could do with a deep clean. The warden’s keep them clean on a day to day basis but the skirtings are in need of a good clean and the floor and shower areas are grubby. The pedal bins are rusty and could do with being replaced....Read less.

We rarely stop on large sites, but we found this site surpassed our expectations. Plenty of space and the site was much quieter than we had anticipated.

We really liked having the toilet in the shower room.

Good site for access to town. Very clean facilities. Friendly wardens. Bike hire very reasonable. Quick commercial washers and driers but at a cost of £10 per load for drying which is expensive in comparison to other sites. Outside drying facilities good. The WiFi on site is poor and needs to be upgraded. So slow couldn’t do standard browsing. 4G connectivity also slow as all on site having to use due to lack of WiFi....Read less.

A surprisingly leafy tree site for Orkney, giving protection from winds & sun, which we did experience.

Lovely helpful staff and friendly people staying on site. The unusual individual l bathrooms with toilet & basin or toilet & shower were well looked after and convenient. Never fully occupied, either.

The site is perfect for Kirkwall town access & supermarkets. As well as ferries and buses close by. Close to main Neolithic sites & Stromness by bus or own transport....Read less.

I was happy staying at this site as everything was clean, well taken care of and close to the town as well as the NorthLink ferry. One thing did bother me though. Great campsite, close to the town of Kirkwall and very easy to find. Good supermarkets and petrol nearby and easy walk into town. Nice park opposite for dog walking. Facilities are good with laundry room and kitchen for dishwashing and communal lounge. Pic he’s are good and not too much noise from the road. Facilities in individual rooms in the main block with shower, toilet and sink. Push button shower which is fine but could do with staying on a bit longer between presses as seems to go off very quickly. Kept nice and clean but the chemical disposal area needs to be cleaned on a daily basis, this wasn’t done during our stay of 10 nights. The motor home grid for emptying waste water tanks was quite clogged and small so would suggest installing a run off trench or larger grid area as not easy to get in especially with a larger motor home. The actual position of the site is perfect for not only exploration of the Orkneys but also very good for onward transit to other islands or the mainland. The site is very well managed but not overly consumed by rules, the staff are excellent! very helpful and friendly and the whole environment is very clean and organised. What was very useful was the 'common room' which you could use not only to socialise but also somewhere to base until a typical late ferry departure. Very handy being close to Kirkwall town but also to some large supermarkets. The camping areas are good with enough useful tables to use. The site is very central to amenities with three supermarkets, two takeaways and fuel station a short distance away. Close to town centre. There is also a leisure centre, which includes a cinema, next door. Clean facilities with friendly staff.

Having been before we were familiar with the site. I found the marking of our pitch a bit confusing but the warden helped out. It would be helpful if the marking of the pitch was unambiguous. We did not bring an awning for our caravan and this was a good move as the pitch was a wee bit tight to use an awning. However there are other pitches that would suit an awing. The facility is excellent and we appreciated the washing machine on site, great for a one week visit. The wardens were really helpful at all times, they work so hard. We enjoy coming to Orkney and the site is perfect for us. The swimming pool was out of action but this was due to an unfortunate incident. It was no problem to us. Very good facilities for camper with spacious, well equipped laundry room and kitchen. Large lounge area. The site is flat with motor vehicle free area for hikers and cyclists. Very convenient location about 1.5 miles from the ferry terminal and just a few hundred metres from a large Lidl and Lerwick town centre.

we arrived on the late Aberdeen ferry but there was a leaflet with our pitch number on so we could go direct to our pitch & not in a late arrivals area.

Site is in easy reach of the ferry terminal. The toilets blocks are clean & well maintained. Site is close to a large Tesco, Lidl & co-op.

It’s about a 20 minute walk into the town which has a good variety of shops & pubs. We had a dog with us so were limited in where we could eat but found the Skippers pub where food was food & Orkney brewery beers were on sale.

I thought this site was excellent value for money, considering it provided individual en-suite shower rooms, a laundry, a kitchen with microwave, toaster, fridge freezer and washing up facilities, and a communal lounge. Given this, it is an ideal site for backpackers and cyclists, and I was particularly impressed with the car-free, sheltered, level grass area for small tents. A very pleasant welcome from the young lady dealing with lots of arrivals off the ferry.

Positives: Everything was clean in the facilities block, nice individual shower rooms with toilet. The water was hot enough. We had a hard standing which was level with good electric hook up points.

Negatives: The showers were operated by push button which lasted for only a short while (seconds rather than minutes). In the kitchen area the water at the dish wash area was scalding (beware). Some people thought it O.K to take their dogs into the kitchen. Apart from hygiene concerns, (I have worked in the food business all my life and dogs in food areas is a no no). I think dogs should be banned from this area.

The site is situated near two supermarkets, a 10 minute walk, and within easy walk of the lovely town of Kirkwall with it's fantastic Cathedral. Centrally situated on the main Isle it is convenient for travel North or South. We travelled out to all the neolithic highlights....Read less.

Very easy to book online and great to be able to book our own pitch. Easy checkin, very friendly and amenable staff. Great location, easy pleasant walk to town. Spotless wet room -style facilities. Easy to come and go during Folk Festival, no problems coming in late. Good waste & recycling facilities including drive-over grey water drain. Highlights in town are always the Orkney museum (particularly the stoat exhibition), Restaurant 21, CafeLolz & of course the cathedral.
