We stayed two nights here it was walking distance into the town with a swimming pool next door the staff were so helpfull and nothing was too much trouble. It had a laundry. Lounge for campers to use kettle kitchen and microwave a boo. For people in tents A drying room and also cycle hire we had one good day out of the. The site was well laid out allowing plenty space between pitches. Campers were also welcome with a lounge, cooking, dishwashing facilities. The showers were self contained toilet/washroom which was excellent and clean.

The site is with about 30mins drive of most of the neolithic sites although some are bookable in advance. Make sure you pack for all weathers....Read less.

WiFi was non existent and 4g signal very poor. Connectivity is a necessity these days, not a nice to have so needs to be upgraded.

Toilet flushing was poor in most toilets but everything was kept clean and to a high standard.

Pickaquoy is an excellent starting point to explore Orkney. Easy to reach from the ferry, nice site, great staff. And close to large supermarkets and at walking distance from Kirkwall.

This was / is the perfect base for exploring both Kirkwall itself and Orkney mainland more generally. It was a lovely surprise to have the luxury of a common room with a kitchen and laundry in addition to the showers and loos. The indoor facilities allow you to socialise and meet others in some of Orkney's less clement conditions and makes it more like a hostel - great if you'retravellingalone. Very civilised!

It is very conveniently sited next to the leisure centre and only a stone's throw from a Tesco and a Lidl!

The site is well laid out, quiet and sheltered.

The only slightly frustrating issue was that the WiFi was either very poor or just not working.

This is a really convenient and comfortable site. Having shower rooms with an loo and a sink is a real treat when camping and the lounge/washing facilities were perfect.

The only negative is that one field is alongside a noisy road, not a problem if you know but definitely was not a relaxing place to sit out.

Second time we've stayed. The facilities are very good. Easy access to waste facilities for the campervan. The shower and toilet block is clean, and we like that the individual cubicles have toilet and shower in them. The pitches are a good size, no problems with getting set up. The wi-fi is very slow, so only used for very basic stuff, emails etc, we tended to use 4g which was fine. The main issue, although relatively minor, is road noise. The site is next to quite a busy road, so although it quietens down overnight, the traffic does start early. If you're used to traffic noise then probably not an issue. The location is good, just a quarter of an hour walk into the middle of Kirkwall, and of course if you're taking a ferfy for the day, easy to get the port. All in all a very good site....Read less.

Réception people are very nice, there's a nice lounge room, a kitchen with a bridge so, if the weather is cold and you are in a small tent you can shelter, if the weather is too warm, you can protect your butter! I have stayed here a number of times over the years, always camping. The facilities block is first rate and the wardens work hard to keep it very clean and tidy. My one very small gripe is that there needs to be huge improvements to the wi fi.

The tent pitches are flat and even and there is some shelter provided by walls and shrubs. There can be a lot of camper vans on the site so sensible to camp away from the road edge!

This campsite is a 5 minute walk from 3 supermarkets and the centre of Kirkwall is less than another 5 minutes away. Check the cruise liner schedule and avoid Kirkwall if a big ship is in, as it gets very busy.

This is approx the 4th time we’ve stayed on this site. The facilities are usually excellent but unfortunately this time there were a few of the toilets that weren’t in use which was a pain when you have to dispose of sanitary wear and the toilets that had those facilities were in use! There’s a laundry room although I haven’t used it so can’t comment on that and good dish washing area.

Site is in an excellent position for local shops with Tesco being just around the corner. There are some nice shops close by although there geared for tourists so can be expensive. A couple of nice coffee shops and there’s a chippie where you can sit in which is very nice. Overall a very nice visit again....Read less.

We had stayed in a couple of sites on Orkney and were wandering around looking for somewhere that evening. The previous three days we had been staying at a site, which was little more than a meadow with electric points and a couple of Portakabin’s. We had rejected a site on South Ronaldsay too remote and that was beginning to feel the norm for Orkney.

This is a great site. Staffed during the day by friendly and helpful people. The facilities are always clean and there is plenty of space in the kitchen area if the weather turns nasty. Not a scenic location but very convenient and as a woman travelling alone I felt safe here. Would have liked a warden’s presence but understand that in October this may not be viable. Toilets ok cleanliness wise but could have been better. We were booked for one night here with our motorhome but with Storm Ashley about to hit we wanted to book the night before as well. When we arrived, it was out of hours for the warden being there but we were signposted to the very helpful staff at the Leisure Centre next door who quickly got us sorted on on our pitch. The site is well laid out and the facilities are excellent - the individual shower/toilet cubicles; the cooking/washing up facilities - and toilet/grey water disposal. The staff are great and the place is clean and tidy with good facilities, the shower rooms are freezing (windows left open for ventilation) but that is balenced out by the showers being boiling.

The internet is useless if more than one person is using it, but the mobile signal is great so most people would be fine anyway.

The microwave in the kitchen is great for quick easy food, although a second would be nice for busy mealtimes. There are plenty of sinks for washing up.

Overall it is definitely the best campsite on Orkney and the price is good compared to down south....Read less.

This is a well laid out site with good hard standing and importantly for Orkney, good drainage when wet. The grey water and toilet disposal points are at the entrance with parking. The shower rooms with basin and toilet were excellent but chilly as windows have to be left open for ventilation. There is a lounge area especially handy for the campers. Not many water points but we were luckily in reach of one on pitch 12. Really good power supply that never tripped out. Within walking distance of the supermarkets and the town and good dog walking just across the road. If the toilet block was warmer would have been 5*. The pod was more than just a pod. After a long ferry the site was a 40 minute stroll from the North link ferry. The site info and codes sent before hand was perfect. Pod beds, warmth, dehumidifier etc was stunning. Thankfully no television. WiFi was mostly good. Onsite individual showers and facilities were perfect and only a 10 minute stroll to the town centre.
