We had a lovely stay in a hot tub wigwam at Herding Hill Farm. We had everything we needed and it was very comfortable and clean. The hot tub too was lovely, private and clean.

You could hire fire pits which most people did which were lovely but would be nice if it was included in the price.

The staff were brilliant, really friendly helpful and great with the kids feeding the animals.

We would definitely recommend staying here and would love to return....Read less.

The campsite is small, really well maintained and the facilities were modern and seemed to be kept clean. There are no activities or entertainment as it is not that sort of campsite, but there is a small farm attached which was great and my seven year old could help feed the animals, and there is also a small playground. There is a decent pub a short walk away, and there is also the town of Haltwhistle. We visited the Sill which is a kind of visitors centre for the local area and Northumberland national park, and different bits of Hadrian's Wall. Toilet and shower block excellent, spotlessly clean and showers were always lovely and hot and so powerful, baths were a plus for little one.

Wardens very friendly, didn't need any assistance from them but did notice others asking for things and they were always obliging.

We love staying at Herding Hill because it is clean, tidy and laid back. They don't allow loud music or excessive noise after a certain time which for a family with little kids is brilliant. The kids love the animals on site, and the staff are friendly at feeding time. You are a stones throw from the best Hadrians Wall attractions in the area. The washroom facilities are always clean and tidy and the wigwam we stayed in was very well maintained. My only suggestion from our entire stay is that the doors of the wigwams could do with a catch to hold them open. Will definitely visit again and would recommend to anyone (who when camping is happy to respect those around them)....Read less.

We had a lovely one night stay in one of the parks wigwams. The wigwam was clean and the hot tub was fab. My daughter was excited about the animal feeding times and it was lovely seeing all the children staying on site, coming together to feed and talk about the animals. It was a nice quiet friendly site, which is perfect for us when you need a relaxing night away. Our stay was prompted by wanting to visit the Hadrian's wall and its definitely a good spot for this. The local chippy in Haltwhistle did fab fish & chips! The staff were very friendly and helpful and good with the children. My son is non verbal and they were very welcoming of his needs. We are a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 boys aged 12, 9 & 6) We came to Herding Hill for a long weekend and unfortunately weather wasn’t on our side. It rained almost the whole time we were there and the wind was also terrible.

When we arrived the staff were so friendly and welcoming. They explained everything we needed to know and couldn’t of made us feel any more at ease.

The site and facilities are one of the nicest and cleanest that we have stayed at and was always immaculate.

The children loved seeing the animals at the petting farm and enjoyed feeding them their breakfast.

The only thing that would stop us coming back again is the older two children were a bit bored with the on site park. I would say that the park is more suitable for younger children. It’s is a lovely park and well looked after but my 9 & 12 year we’re bored of it quite quickly compared to other places we have been to.

I would definitely recommend it to people with younger children and would recommend the Roman Army museum just 3 miles away. It’s a great place to stay if you want to explore Hadrian’s wall as you are right at the heart of it here....Read less.

Excellent location for access to Hadrians Wall and attractions either on foot, by local bus or own transport. Peaceful spot with beautiful views. 10 minute walk to local pub serving excellent food at fair prices but walk is along unpaved, unlit country road. Local bus stop outside site gates. Good local shops at Haltwhistle, 1.5 miles away but down a very, very, steep narrow road. Facilities on site spotless but would have liked an enclosed, covered over pot washing facility. Got to the site on Friday afternoon. Talked about this being our first time camping (me & my 10 year old). Was shown to pitch.

Overnight the temp dropped (-1) so caravanners let us stay with them. The next day I set down around 8/9am after getting milk from the site shop & telling the staff how our night went.

At 3pm I was approached and told I had to leave because I hadn't checked out. I was invited for dinner and for my child to play with others at the caravan we stayed at the night before. My pitch was empty.

The staff saw & spoke to me all day.

When I explained that we needed to eat and wait for the bus, I was informed that I had to leave, and the bus to town had just gone.

We had to walk down a hill with all of our stuff and my son was injured falling on the road. We were nearly hit by a speeding car & we had to sit in the rain for an hour waiting to travel home from haltwhistle.

Nobody said anything about check out times and my pitch was empty by 9am. I was embarrassed, confused & angry.

I imagine this review has simply been sent to the staff that did this rather than their boss, so I'll be keeping this and sending it to a head office email if I can find one.

If appreciate a response as to why nothing was said all day and I was told to leave after the staff watched the only bus for hours, pass by.

I'd also like to know which rule I broke by accepting the offer of hospitality of another family during the coldest bank holiday weekend on record while we wait for a bus?

Not happy....Read less.

Have been wanting to visit Herding Hill for a while now and had the opportunity to visit in the half term. We had booked a wigwam with running water and hot tub. The website states that running water wigwams come with an additional bunk bed, however upon arriving our wigwam didn't have this. This was quickly rectified and we were moved but worth noting that not all running water wigwams have the extra bed so if needed to request this when booking. The facilities on the site were brilliant, immaculate toilet and shower facilities, very well maintained and secure. The only negative was that we paid for wifi, which didn't work due to poor signal. We mentioned this twice to onsite staff, and upon checking out, but we were still charged. If offering a service and charging for it, it needs to be available to actually use on site. Staff were wonderful, so helpful, and fantastic with the kids, letting them help to feed to animals each day. The area has lots to offer, we visited several roman forts, and The Sill, and there are plenty pubs/takeaways near by too. Would definitely consider returning to use their camping facilities....Read less.

A fantastic site which I actually can't fault in any way!! Facilities were spotless and obviously well cared for. Playground is brilliant and occupied my little boy well. The twice daily animal feeding sessions are a brilliant activity that the whole family can join in with and Clive was great with the kids and very informative. We found lots to do within walking distance including bike rides, exploring Hadrians Wall and lots of geocaching to be found nearby (which was a bonus for us) . The Milecastle pub is also a great little venue and it is ideal to be able to walk to (10 mins along a county road so we found torches helpful when it was dark). It serves lovely food in a cozy environment. We will definitely be returning to Herding Hill farm in the not to distant future and we are really looking forward to trying one of the camping pods. Our hard standing electric pitch was huge and level. We enjoy walking and using the caravan as a base and will definitely be back due to the amount of walking and trails we couldn’t fully finish due to staying for just a weekend.

We booked this at the end of November for a two night stay starting 31st December. We arrived about half 6, check in was so easy and simple, perfect directions to our wigwam. We read that the hot tubs get locked up at 10pm at night; this was clearly stated before we arrived and we were not bothered by this but when we got there we were told as it was New Years Eve these rule would not apply, which was a really nice touch. I've never been somewhere where the showers/bath weren't in the wigwam itsself so i was abit nervous about it...no reason to be as showers/bath was spotless, super private and abit music on in background.

We didn't see much of owners but we knew where to find them if we needed them and they were extremely polite and friendly.

We chose Bearding Hill due to its location close to Hadrian's Wall. We arrived after dark in rain and high winds but the site was easy to find. On arrival, in addition to a full explanation of the site facilities, we were advised which pitches may be more sheltered from the high winds.

The washing and toilet facilities are absolutely superb - very clean and tidy, nice and warm with an excellent shower. There is even a sauna in both the ladies and gents facilities!

Although we had only planned to stay for one night, we were told not to worry too much about vacating by midday as the site was quiet. As this fitted nicely with our plans to walk along Hadrian's Wall that day we booked a second night.

We have recently stayed at Herding Hill Farm and we loved it. We stayed in one of the ‘Running Water Wigwams’ and had originally booked it for three nights however we received an email asking if we wished to alter our dates or stay an extra night as they were having a Halloween/ Bonfire get together and wanted to give us the option to be part of it.

As we were staying with our five year old son we opted to stay another night as we had the time off work anyway and it was so worth it.

When we arrived we were greeted by Sue who was very welcoming and gave us all the information we needed regarding our wigwam and the site. Our wigwam was very clean and they had already put the heating on for our arrival which was a nice touch. The amenity block was immaculate and warm which was great! They had all the facilities needed as well as a wash up sink/ food prep area for those without the running water. They also had baths in the Women’s block which is handy for younger children. There is also a dry room for any wet towels/ clothing and a vending machine which offered hot drinks and confectionary; they do have a small amount of items including milk which you can purchase at reception also.

Sue had already mentioned the feeding times for the animals they have on the site and so we wandered up to have a look and much to our son’s enjoyment he was encouraged to help with the feeding. He had so much fun feeding ‘Bubbles’ the pig and the rest of the animals and Sue and Phil were great with all the children.

During the day we ventured out to the near-by attractions in particular the Roman Army Museum and Hadrian’s Wall but come the evenings we enjoyed a fire pit which you can purchase from reception which includes all you need to get it started and then ended the chilly nights in the hot tub. The hot tub was a dream and was maintained daily by Phil; even our son didn’t want to get out. We were lucky to get one night where the clouds disappeared and we sat as a family and watched a sky full of stars in the hot tub.

On the Friday they cooked Pizza’s which you could buy and were delivered to your Wigwam which was something different and fun for the kids. We sat outside wrapped up with a cold drink (beer*) and ate our pizza which was delicious.

On the Saturday we enjoyed the Halloween/ Bonfire celebrations where there was face-painting, a bon fire and some fireworks to end the evening. The children all received a goody bag too which they all seemed thrilled with.

I’d also like to note that after we had stayed our first night my father and step-mother decided they wanted to join us for one night; I approached Sue and she made it so simple to sort out. There are options to add other people to your accommodation but they wanted to stay in their own wigwam and I was able to sort it out with Sue on their behalf which was hassle free for my father too.

There are lots of places to go and things to see in the surrounding areas; Herding Hill farm is in an ideal place and central to a lot of visitor attractions.

We loved every minute of our stay here. When we booked this kind of get-away, we wanted it to be real family time- no TV, no social media and that’s exactly what we had. It was great to get outdoors again and enjoy quality time together; all thanks to Herding Hill Farm. We are 100% staying here again in the next school holidays and can’t wait. A big thanks to Sue and Phil for being so welcoming and helpful; they really made you feel more like an honoured guest rather than just a visitor stopping by. Herding Hill Farm has a real friendly atmosphere and gave us a memorable time. See you again in 2019!

This is our fourth time at herding Hill. We love the area its ideal for hadriens wall /walking etc. Haltwhistle is only a short walk away. The mile castle Inn is a short walk down the road(great food and drink). The site its self is very good, pitches are large and level. Toilets and showers are well looked after and the staff are friendly and very helpful. This is not a party site there is a no noise rule at night. If you like peace and quiet then this is the place to be. This is a dark skyes area so on a clear night the sky is amazing. Would recommend this location....Read less.

Early Oct 2018, stopped overnight to split our journey from Scotland to Wirral up. Friendly, helpful welcome, well maintained and secure site with excellent wash facilities, all immaculately clean. Beautiful, peaceful countryside location with great views not far from Hadrians wall yet still easily accessible (we were in a 7.8x2.4m motorhome towing a car!). No radios :) Donkeys, goats, pony, pig, chickens which children can help feed. There is a cosy country pub with good food about 10 mins walk. My husband and I had a wonderful experience staying in a Wigwam at Herding Hill Farm. We had intended to stop at the site for two nights at the beginning of our holiday and ended up staying for five! The owners were friendly and accommodating, and the location balances quiet with the convenience of a town (and two excellent pubs) nearby. The campground is dog friendly, the toilet/shower facilities are very modern and clean and the park is well maintained. There are also well cared for animals on site. The Wigwam was cozy with excellent heating and, most importantly, a comfortable bed. This was an ideal base from which to explore all that the area has to offer, including hiking along Hadrian's Wall, the Roman fort/archaeological site at Vindolanda and Northumberland National Park. Herding Hill Farm is excellent value for money. I would not hesitate to recommend it and we certainly plan to return....Read less.

Lovely clean and WARM wigwam. Really peaceful, quiet site, easy to find and great location for exploring Hadrian's Wall. Probably the cleanest facilities I've ever seen on a campsite with plenty of hot water whenever you showered. My only comment on the facilities is that there could have been more washing up sinks as this got very busy. Also there weren't really enough sinks in the shower block, especially in the men's. In the ladies it's a bizarre choice to put the hairdryer quite so close to the only hand drier and also it felt like standing to dry your hair in the way of everyone coming in to use the loo. But these are only minor comments as overall it was lovely. The animals were a great extra and the children loved being able to feed them with the staff. Thank you....Read less.

We loved our stay in one of the wigwams at Herding hill farm. The Campsite felt smaller than others we have been to but I think this is just due to layout, we long site with pitches either side. This ment we really were between 2 fields. The facilities were clean and easily accessible. The female shower room had 2 baths with overhead shower which would have been great when the children were younger.

The wigwams were very clean. We booked the bigger wigwam for the extra space and beds, the ensuite toilet and running water was a bonus. However we were disappointed there was no bunkbed as shown on website. We have very restless sleeper, sharing a sleeping space is very difficult. The addition of the bunkbed would have ment we didn't have to fold away the beds every morning, we would also have had a comfy seat at night once kids were in bed. This didn't detract from our holiday however I we are camping in the area again we will be requesting a bunkbed wigwam prior to booking.

The small play park kept the kids entertained for a while the older one was getting bored as limited equipment, and they are getting older. They both however played in the large grass area for hours and each night there was a football game being played with many of the wigwams all joining together. Great community feel and was perfect for the kids to use imagination, run around and play games with basic equipment.

This is defenatly a campsite we will book again when in the area....Read less.

The camp site itself is well maintained. The washrooms, showers and bath tub ( I know!) were really nice, warm and clean. The camp takes it 10pm quite hour seriously which is nice for those of us that want to turn in early after a long walk along Hadrian's Wall. I stayed in the teepee with my daughter and I recommend that for anyone not wanting to deal with setting up and striking down a tent (especially in the rain). It stayed dry and relatively warm- there are power outlets as well. It gave us the real feeling of camping without the fuss. The animals on the campsite are a nice addition and help to set the scene of the great outdoors. There was one really loud sheep that made us laugh because he/she was so needy. There were a lot of families staying and my daughter easily made friends and enjoyed running around and making up games in a safe environment. The camp is located nicely for anyone wanting to explore the area. I should also mention that they make pizzas to order Friday and Saturday night and deliver them right to your tent, which is nice if you're too tired to cook. Also they were really delicious. All in all, it was great weekend and I would do it again....Read less.

Our one night stay was very good. We booked two belle tents and for us they were in the best position on the campsite, down at the bottom away from everything else. personally, I prefer to be as secluded as possible so the wigwams wouldn't have suited us at all.

The belle tents were great with the beds inside and an electric heater. The only thing I think needs changing is the size of the picnic bench on the veranda. They are far too big for the size of the veranda and hard to sit down on and manoeuvre around due to the guy ropes of the tents. Supplying bedding would have been a lovely added touch too and we would have been willing to pay more for fresh bedding made up for us.

Overall our stay was great. The price is fantastic, views from the bell tents lovely and the toilets/showers very clean. The only disappointment we had was when the baggage transfer company came to collect our bags the following morning (9am - we weren't told it would be this early on any of the paperwork) and we felt rushed by the campsite owners to hurry up and get our bags packed as if we should have known. It wasn't the most relaxing experience at the end of our stay!...Read less.

The campsite provides a beautiful and peacefully atmosphere. The Pods are clean and warm, with running water which is a wonderful option and convenient. The only issue we had was the Pods are raised with 2 significant steps in/out so I did struggle ( currently in a cast) . Loved the site as small and well managed re cleanliness and things for children to do even though we didnt have any young children. Some good dog walking in area if you don't mind short bit of road walking from the camp site. Our dog did not like the alpacas so a bit tricky walking him without barking and waking camp site! Showers some of best seen as adjustable height and 2 bathrooms with baths/ showers to use. Nice hot water. Downside was we were informed Wifi was slow, which we would cope with for googling places of interest but in reality it rarely connected even though we paid for it so disappointing and frustrating. Haltwhistle is a great little location to go for a drink or some food and most places are dog friendly.

There was a lot of flies in our cabin and although this couldn't be helped because of the weather it would've been nice to have a fly trap or something in the cabin to alleviate this issue.

This was the only downside to an otherwise great weekend. Even the rain couldn't spoil it....Read less.

A fantastic site to base ourselves for our first family holiday.

Taking a newborn away in a caravan for the first time is a little daunting, but site staff were very welcoming, and checked in on occasion to make sure everything was ok, ( they also had some notices to share, but it was nice to feel they cared)

Pizza on a Fri/Sat night is not to be missed, certainly beats cooking.

It would be great if there was a hot-tub available for site wide use (bookable of course), not just those in wigwams, but this wasn’t something we would have used on this occasion but may use in future if/when we return.

It’s a great little site, popular with families and with lots of accomodation options there is something for everyone and their budget.

Certainly recommend.

The rules on the campsite are too keep dogs on leads and this we were happy to do, it is a lovely site with excellent facilities and good pitches. A really lovely small site which has excellent facilities. Quite high up so can be breezy when putting a tent up! We were attracted to this site mainly because they made a big deal on their website about noise management which wasn't quite as on the ball as it might have been. Had to twice ask for radio/music to be turned off after the curfew when the site claims no electric music devices are allowed. I took my Motorhome to the site, having stayed in the area some time earlier, and looking forward to some of the cycle routes. My motorhome managed the approach up the hills from Haltwhistle quite easily, but the campsite comments on approaching from the Military Road is quite valid if you have a towed caravan.

The site was good in every way, being very tidy and clean.. Brilliant weather was a real bonus! It would be a bit draughty it there was strong windy weather.

If you are the bottom of the hill and going up to the campsite, you have just over 3/4 of a mile and you will be climbing about 250ft. Fine for the young and foolish. I pushed my bike for some of it!

It wasn't possible to really walk anywhere from the site, but because of it's location to the A69 everything was very easy to access. The views over Haltwhistle from the site were stunning, with the added bonus of seeing Barn Owls hunting in the evening. The animals on the farm were great for the kids (we didn't have children with us) & it was lovely to see & hear them enjoying themselves so much. We would definitely visit it again....Read less.

We had a great stay at this campsite. The wardens were helpful and friendly, the site was immaculately kept, the facilities were excellent and I loved the animals - even though we do not have children!!! We chose the campsite mainly due to its location as we want to walk Hadrian’s Wall. It was perfect and the bus stop right outside was an added bonus....Read less.

Stayed for the second time to visit Hadrians wall. Just as we expected it is still an excellent site, good facilities, friendly helpful staff and a beautiful if occasionally windy location.
