The wigwam and hot tub were immaculately presented and both were readily warmed and cosy on arrival (even though it was -5 outside). The site owners are absolutely lovely and can't do enough to make your stay a pleasure. The amenities block is beautiful and well heated. We didn't get time to help with feeding the animals or exploring the local area, but we will definitely be back in the summer as we were blown away by the site, owners and scenery....Read less.

We were delighted with both the site and our walk

The staff were knowledgable and friendly and the facilities were excellent my wife especially loved a hot bath after our somewhat cold wet eight mile walk

The Milecastle Inn was another great asset only half a miles walk away with good food fine beer and wine

Open fire and friendly service

All in all a very successful weekend

Wouldn’t recommend this place if you are a “night owl” - hot tub time curfew and “Noise police“ ie wardens patrolling the full area made us feel like children being put to bed. Being very cold we had no choice but to sit in the small hut whispering. Completely ruined our time here so wouldn’t return. I suggest maybe an adults only area where you don’t have to be on lockdown by 10.30pm

We are sorry that you felt that you could not enjoy our facilities or your stay with us to the full. As you are aware, through our terms and conditions and welcome information, we are a family friendly campsite and we do ask our Guests to respect all other visitors who are staying on the site by keeping noise to a minimum between 10.30pm and 8am. Our Wardens do undertake a walk around the site around 10.45pm for several reasons;

• to complete an end of day safety and security check

• to ensure the Amenities Block is clean and equipped for our

guests for the following day

• to remind people, if necessary, of our quiet policy and request

they keep noise to a low conversation level.

Although we do ask our guests to vacate the hot tubs by 10.30pm many people then take the opportunity to sit, with a fire pit, outside their wigwam cabins to enjoy the night sky etc.

We do thank you for submitting your review as we appreciate all comments and feedback.

The hot tub was fantastic, very warm and closed off so we didn't feel too much of the cold (we stayed in November!)

Have been with my caravan numerous times and really like the look and feel of this place. However we came to try one of the wigwams with the hot tub and would never ever recommend this to anyone. Firstly they are not suitable for a family they are simply too small. The idea of camping in style i.e. glam-ping,yes I can get this and would agree with it (even the size) if it hadn't been for the ridicules price that is charged for staying in one. £122 per night and still having to provide our own bedding, cutlery, plates, hand soap for the toilet etc, is simply ripping your customers off. I was going to leave my own review on trustpilot as we felt quite strongly about our stay, however we do like this site and do want to return with our caravan. Therefore decided not to. As you have sent me your own request for a review, then here it is. For extra information for you, the hot tubs are set at 38 without the option of going up to 40 (which is the standard recommended limit) 38 when you go in, very quickly cools to 36 and it feels luke warm. Some people like this, some simply don't and want hotter (like every single other hot tub I have seen) Please, fix your hot tubs to give people the choice. Also the wifi is simply poor and doesn't work at the point we were at well. Lastly something that absolutely infuriated me and should be passed onto the owners, was on the day we were leaving, we noticed the owners/managers walking around. When they went past us (we were all outside and getting ready to leave) They just walked past without a courtesy hello or how was your stay? Thank you for coming etc. Are they above dealing with their own customers? Thank goodness the staff that are employed here are 5 star. Even the cleaners went out their way to be super friendly (forgot the guys name) But actually thought he was one of the owners at first as he was being so friendly and chatty. Sorry for negative review, but you asked so here it is....Read less.

hank you for submitting your review of your latest stay with us and we hope to see you again soon with your caravan. We are sorry that you did not think that your recent stay in one of our glamping pods was value for money. These type of pods are normally offered on most sites without the facilities that you describe and are extremely popular with families. We do offer convenience kits (at a cost) but find that the majority of guests prefer to bring their own belongings. We regularly benchmark our nightly prices against other sites but I will pass your comments on. In respect of the hot tubs, there is a recommended temperature by BISHTA of approximately 37 to 38 degrees maximum temperature and above these temperatures immersion times should be limited to no more than 15 minutes at a time. Unfortunately the longer the hot tub is occupied and the lid off then the faster the water cools. Our hot tub guidelines which are displayed on the fence next to the tub try to assist our guests with this. We test our tubs regularly to ensure that they are reaching the required temperature.

We are located in a very rural location and regrettably, whilst we offer free WiFi, it is not technologically possible to get a better signal. Many of our guests like the freedom of being “offline” during their stay. We do communicate this in the Welcome Pack which you will have received prior to arrival. Fortunately we do have a 4G signal.

As the Site Managers, we and our Wardens were disappointed to read your comments as we try to go above and beyond to welcome all our guests and ensure that they have everything they need to enjoy their stay. Our owners are not on site and we take responsibility for all our guests. Hopefully you will have experienced this warm welcome on your previous stays and we look forward to welcoming you back again to one of our touring pitches soon.

Leaving the A69 it was a relief to drive a short way along a Northumberland country lane to the safe haven of Herding Hill, in the shadow of Hadrian's Wall. A friendly, cheery warden lead us to our pitch, left us to make camp and shouting back that we should join him for the afternoon animal feeding.. hens, alpacas, donkeys and a whole lot more. Set up was quick, everything to hand electrics, water and so on. Over a cup of tea we watched a small flock of sheep grazing on a rising field. The surroundings truly reflected rural Northumberland. The showers and washing facilities were very upmarket clean and functioning. The local pub welcoming a pint of ale then a hearty meal meeting and chatting to other visitors whilst watching the sun set through the window. This left 5 days to explore the remains of the Roman Empire well the Hadrian's Wall , the forts, the museums and no need for a car. The AD122 wall hopper bus took us to where we wanted to be and then we walked back to base, soaking in the scenery and reflecting on what the Romans had really done for us. Herding Hill well that came later but not without the help of the Roman cohorts!...Read less.

Initially we found herding hill farm via a google search ‘best places to camp in the north of england’. As a Family (two adults and 3 yr old) we were drawn to Hadrians wall thinking the hiking with a 3year-old would be more achievable than say, the lakes.

We had hoped for a stress free camping experience with the bonus of nice washing facilities (borderline clamping), and we were not disappointed. The facilities were 5star. Wash rooms clean and constant hot water. The sauna was a lovely addition albeit we didn’t have time to use, other than popping our head in for a quick blast of warmth before bed.

From the moment we arrived Jean and Nigel, whom run the campsite, provided us with everything we needed from bus times to shorter our hikes, to emergency ice packs at 6pm to keep my 6 pack of beer chilled on the second night. They were actively patrolling the site giving assurance, and assistance to all campers. Engaging with the children not only at animal feeding times, but whenever passing our spot Nigel would be sure to entertain us all with a wave and smile.

Security was fantastic. A Barrier to get vehicles on/off site, and a Fantastic family atmosphere where the kids roamed freely and safely to the play areas and animal feeding areas.

Location was perfect. Easily accessible, yet away from any traffic. All major attractions were easily walkable, even a bus from end of the road (Milestone pub), helped shorten the distances for the kids.

The pub, was fantastic. Milestone pub was 5 min walk, amazing hearty food, open fire, exposed beams with a real pub feel. Must pop in!

All in al, fantastic weekend and thank you again to Nigel and Jean whom went above and beyond! Clearly they love their job, and I don’t blame them waking up to those views every day.

See you soon!

We are sorry that you had a disappointing experience during your recent stay and we will be pleased to discuss any concerns you have via email. Please contact us at bookings@herdinghillfarm.co.uk or give us a call and ask to speak to Sue. Unfortunately we did receive a complaint about your party’s noise and behaviours from other guests which we felt we needed to respond to. As you are aware, through our terms and conditions and welcome information, we are a family friendly campsite and we do ask our Guests to respect all other visitors who are staying on the site. In respect of our hot tubs the maximum recommended stay is 20 minutes. This follows Red Cross guidelines and not only does this protect your own health and safety it also allows the water in the tub time to reheat when the cover is replaced. I will report your concerns around the water temperature to our hot tub engineers who are due on site this week. I look forward to hearing from you at the earliest opportunity.

We chose to stay at Herding Hill Farm as we were looking for a campsite close to various attractions at Hadrians Wall. All the sites charged similar prices but Herding Hill stood out as there were farm animals the children could meet and feed. Every morning our children got up for this especially and really enjoyed feeding the animals.

The rest of the facilities were very good from my point of view. The pitches were nice and big too so you did not feel to close to those camped around you.

We stayed in the lodge, it was a very quiet peaceful site which is just what we wanted. Great location to travel to various attractions including the Lake District. Loved the lodge, could do with a bit of TLC to make it absolutely perfect. The bathroom bath panel is water damaged and the lodge could do with a spring clean to get rid of spiders webs etc in the rooms but that’s being really picky as the accommodation was great. It was very hot when we stayed in August and we did struggle to sleep could do with a fan for hotter months. We also bought an iron and ironing board as there wasn’t one in the lodge. As we arrived in our motorhome we were immediately impressed by the lovely location and the staff were very welcoming & helpful. On our first night we took advantage of pizza's for tea which are cooked to order on-site and excellent... especially as they're delivered free of charge direct to your pitch. Even though the site is in a shallow secluded valley the TV reception is good and useful to know during inclement weather. The toilets are modern and exceptionally well kept. Items stocked in the small site shop are a wee bit different and sensible as well as catering for a variety of needs.

The only minor downside we could see at the site is, the narrow strip of ground adjacent to the dog walk/farm track allocated for camping isn't flat so it does limits suitable pitches available for smaller tents. This didn't affect us but backpackers could be a tad frustrated by this but otherwise this really is a great site....Read less.

Staff were helpful although sent us to the information room for local walks etc and it only really had leaflets for local tourist attractions. However it is only 1/2 mile from Hadrians Wall and we walked from site to Housesteads Fort and back. Numerous small roads locally for cycling Sustrans 68 & 10 both near the site and Haltwhistle to Alston which at times followed the old railway line was fantastic. It is however very hilly so you need strong legs or electric bikes (ha ha).

The only thing we didn't like was if your walking from the site in either direction you have to walk along a narrow road with no footpath and the traffic can be quite quick along there although not always busy. This is not obviously the sites fault just not much fun!!!!!...Read less.

We had a lovely one night stay in one of the parks wigwams. The wigwam was clean and the hot tub was fab. My daughter was excited about the animal feeding times and it was lovely seeing all the children staying on site, coming together to feed and talk about the animals. It was a nice quiet friendly site, which is perfect for us when you need a relaxing night away. Our stay was prompted by wanting to visit the Hadrian's wall and its definitely a good spot for this. The local chippy in Haltwhistle did fab fish & chips! The staff were very friendly and helpful and good with the children. My son is non verbal and they were very welcoming of his needs. We would definitely love to return for a sunny stay, but even the pouring rain didn't spoil our fun!...Read less.

We are a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 boys aged 12, 9 & 6) We came to Herding Hill for a long weekend and unfortunately weather wasn’t on our side. It rained almost the whole time we were there and the wind was also terrible.

When we arrived the staff were so friendly and welcoming. They explained everything we needed to know and couldn’t of made us feel any more at ease.

The site and facilities are one of the nicest and cleanest that we have stayed at and was always immaculate.

The children loved seeing the animals at the petting farm and enjoyed feeding them their breakfast.

The only thing that would stop us coming back again is the older two children were a bit bored with the on site park. I would say that the park is more suitable for younger children. It’s is a lovely park and well looked after but my 9 & 12 year we’re bored of it quite quickly compared to other places we have been to.

I would definitely recommend it to people with younger children and would recommend the Roman Army museum just 3 miles away. It’s a great place to stay if you want to explore Hadrian’s wall as you are right at the heart of it here....Read less.

Excellent location for access to Hadrians Wall and attractions either on foot, by local bus or own transport. Peaceful spot with beautiful views. 10 minute walk to local pub serving excellent food at fair prices but walk is along unpaved, unlit country road. Local bus stop outside site gates. Good local shops at Haltwhistle, 1.5 miles away but down a very, very, steep narrow road. Facilities on site spotless but would have liked an enclosed, covered over pot washing facility. A bit exposed if weather is wet. It was good to see children enjoying the site but think site rules should include no ball games. Having said that, we would return....Read less.

I appreciated having kettle and toaster but would be keener to come back if a few basics were included (so packing and unpacking was easier). Got to the site on Friday afternoon. Talked about this being our first time camping (me & my 10 year old). Was shown to pitch.

Overnight the temp dropped (-1) so caravanners let us stay with them. The next day I set down around 8/9am after getting milk from the site shop & telling the staff how our night went.

At 3pm I was approached and told I had to leave because I hadn't checked out. I was invited for dinner and for my child to play with others at the caravan we stayed at the night before. My pitch was empty.

The staff saw & spoke to me all day.

When I explained that we needed to eat and wait for the bus, I was informed that I had to leave, and the bus to town had just gone.

We had to walk down a hill with all of our stuff and my son was injured falling on the road. We were nearly hit by a speeding car & we had to sit in the rain for an hour waiting to travel home from haltwhistle.

Nobody said anything about check out times and my pitch was empty by 9am. I was embarrassed, confused & angry.

I imagine this review has simply been sent to the staff that did this rather than their boss, so I'll be keeping this and sending it to a head office email if I can find one.

If appreciate a response as to why nothing was said all day and I was told to leave after the staff watched the only bus for hours, pass by.

I'd also like to know which rule I broke by accepting the offer of hospitality of another family during the coldest bank holiday weekend on record while we wait for a bus?

Not happy....Read less.

Have been wanting to visit Herding Hill for a while now and had the opportunity to visit in the half term. We had booked a wigwam with running water and hot tub. The website states that running water wigwams come with an additional bunk bed, however upon arriving our wigwam didn't have this. This was quickly rectified and we were moved but worth noting that not all running water wigwams have the extra bed so if needed to request this when booking. The facilities on the site were brilliant, immaculate toilet and shower facilities, very well maintained and secure. The only negative was that we paid for wifi, which didn't work due to poor signal. We mentioned this twice to onsite staff, and upon checking out, but we were still charged. If offering a service and charging for it, it needs to be available to actually use on site. Staff were wonderful, so helpful, and fantastic with the kids, letting them help to feed to animals each day. The area has lots to offer, we visited several roman forts, and The Sill, and there are plenty pubs/takeaways near by too. Would definitely consider returning to use their camping facilities....Read less.

We enjoyed our stay at the farm and the wigwam was spacious inside. I think the only thought that we had was there should be somewhere on the website informing us that there was no cutlery or crockery in the wigwams. If it was anywhere on the website I certainly didn’t see it so we had to go searching in town for these items. Apart from this being inconvenient everything else went well....Read less.

A fantastic site which I actually can't fault in any way!! Facilities were spotless and obviously well cared for. Playground is brilliant and occupied my little boy well. The twice daily animal feeding sessions are a brilliant activity that the whole family can join in with and Clive was great with the kids and very informative. We found lots to do within walking distance including bike rides, exploring Hadrians Wall and lots of geocaching to be found nearby (which was a bonus for us) . The Milecastle pub is also a great little venue and it is ideal to be able to walk to (10 mins along a county road so we found torches helpful when it was dark). It serves lovely food in a cozy environment. We will definitely be returning to Herding Hill farm in the not to distant future and we are really looking forward to trying one of the camping pods. I'd not hesitate to rate this site 10/10 and have already been telling friends and family all about it. Well done Herding Hill Farm....Read less.

We’rve recently taken ownership of a new caravan and wanted to stay in Northumberland for our maiden voyage.

We chose Herding Hill for its location next to the Roman wall and beautiful surroundings. As a bonus we got a first class campsite with outstanding facilities and helpful passionate owners who are very friendly and helpful.

Our hard standing electric pitch was huge and level. We enjoy walking and using the caravan as a base and will definitely be back due to the amount of walking and trails we couldn’t fully finish due to staying for just a weekend.

Not content with excellent attractions like camping pods,, grassed area for tents and teepee’s with hot running water the site also has resident animals to look at and admire.

All in all a spacious and well located site for long holidays and short breaks. Can’t wait for our next visit....Read less.

We booked this at the end of November for a two night stay starting 31st December. We arrived about half 6, check in was so easy and simple, perfect directions to our wigwam. We read that the hot tubs get locked up at 10pm at night; this was clearly stated before we arrived and we were not bothered by this but when we got there we were told as it was New Years Eve these rule would not apply, which was a really nice touch. I've never been somewhere where the showers/bath weren't in the wigwam itsself so i was abit nervous about it...no reason to be as showers/bath was spotless, super private and abit music on in background.

We didn't see much of owners but we knew where to find them if we needed them and they were extremely polite and friendly.

The wigwam was so clean and so was the hot tub.

We had the dog with us aswell who absolutely loved it.

Will be back in the future without a doubt.

Thank you so much, perfect way to start the new year.

We recently stayed in one of the wigeams on herding hill farm, it was lovely from the moment we got there until we left. We was greated by friendly staff, shown to our wigwam, the hot tub was all ready for us, it was very clean too. All we could have wished for. It was a good half hour walk into the village which was good for the dog. The black bull was our favourite place to go for food and drink. Please note though, we could only get one taxi number as not many people use them in this village. Would defo reccomend and would happily stay again. Thank you....Read less.
