We loved our stay in one of the wigwams at Herding hill farm. The Campsite felt smaller than others we have been to but I think this is just due to layout, we long site with pitches either side. This ment we really were between 2 fields. The facilities were clean and easily accessible. The female shower room had 2 baths with overhead shower which would have been great when the children were younger.

The wigwams were very clean. We booked the bigger wigwam for the extra space and beds, the ensuite toilet and running water was a bonus. However we were disappointed there was no bunkbed as shown on website. We have very restless sleeper, sharing a sleeping space is very difficult. The addition of the bunkbed would have ment we didn't have to fold away the beds every morning, we would also have had a comfy seat at night once kids were in bed. This didn't detract from our holiday however I we are camping in the area again we will be requesting a bunkbed wigwam prior to booking.

The small play park kept the kids entertained for a while the older one was getting bored as limited equipment, and they are getting older. They both however played in the large grass area for hours and each night there was a football game being played with many of the wigwams all joining together. Great community feel and was perfect for the kids to use imagination, run around and play games with basic equipment.

This is defenatly a campsite we will book again when in the area....Read less.

The camp site itself is well maintained. The washrooms, showers and bath tub ( I know!) were really nice, warm and clean. The camp takes it 10pm quite hour seriously which is nice for those of us that want to turn in early after a long walk along Hadrian's Wall. I stayed in the teepee with my daughter and I recommend that for anyone not wanting to deal with setting up and striking down a tent (especially in the rain). It stayed dry and relatively warm- there are power outlets as well. It gave us the real feeling of camping without the fuss. The animals on the campsite are a nice addition and help to set the scene of the great outdoors. There was one really loud sheep that made us laugh because he/she was so needy. There were a lot of families staying and my daughter easily made friends and enjoyed running around and making up games in a safe environment. The camp is located nicely for anyone wanting to explore the area. I should also mention that they make pizzas to order Friday and Saturday night and deliver them right to your tent, which is nice if you're too tired to cook. Also they were really delicious. All in all, it was great weekend and I would do it again....Read less.

Our one night stay was very good. We booked two belle tents and for us they were in the best position on the campsite, down at the bottom away from everything else. personally, I prefer to be as secluded as possible so the wigwams wouldn't have suited us at all.

The belle tents were great with the beds inside and an electric heater. The only thing I think needs changing is the size of the picnic bench on the veranda. They are far too big for the size of the veranda and hard to sit down on and manoeuvre around due to the guy ropes of the tents. Supplying bedding would have been a lovely added touch too and we would have been willing to pay more for fresh bedding made up for us.

Overall our stay was great. The price is fantastic, views from the bell tents lovely and the toilets/showers very clean. The only disappointment we had was when the baggage transfer company came to collect our bags the following morning (9am - we weren't told it would be this early on any of the paperwork) and we felt rushed by the campsite owners to hurry up and get our bags packed as if we should have known. It wasn't the most relaxing experience at the end of our stay!...Read less.

The campsite provides a beautiful and peacefully atmosphere. The Pods are clean and warm, with running water which is a wonderful option and convenient. The only issue we had was the Pods are raised with 2 significant steps in/out so I did struggle ( currently in a cast) . Loved the site as small and well managed re cleanliness and things for children to do even though we didnt have any young children. Some good dog walking in area if you don't mind short bit of road walking from the camp site. Our dog did not like the alpacas so a bit tricky walking him without barking and waking camp site! Showers some of best seen as adjustable height and 2 bathrooms with baths/ showers to use. Nice hot water. Downside was we were informed Wifi was slow, which we would cope with for googling places of interest but in reality it rarely connected even though we paid for it so disappointing and frustrating. Site note far from local town which had adequate shops for stocking up and a slightly longer drive to large superstore. Would recommend to others ....Read less.

Me and my fiance wanted a weekend break with somewhere that our dog join us. The campsite is located in a beautiful surrounding area and you can enjoy walks from the site without having to drive anywhere.

Haltwhistle is a great little location to go for a drink or some food and most places are dog friendly.

There was a lot of flies in our cabin and although this couldn't be helped because of the weather it would've been nice to have a fly trap or something in the cabin to alleviate this issue.

This was the only downside to an otherwise great weekend. Even the rain couldn't spoil it....Read less.

A fantastic site to base ourselves for our first family holiday.

Taking a newborn away in a caravan for the first time is a little daunting, but site staff were very welcoming, and checked in on occasion to make sure everything was ok, ( they also had some notices to share, but it was nice to feel they cared)

Pizza on a Fri/Sat night is not to be missed, certainly beats cooking.

It would be great if there was a hot-tub available for site wide use (bookable of course), not just those in wigwams, but this wasn’t something we would have used on this occasion but may use in future if/when we return.

It’s a great little site, popular with families and with lots of accomodation options there is something for everyone and their budget.

Certainly recommend.

We chose Herding Hill due to its location with Hadrian’s wall, we love walking our dogs in open country and off leads. The rules on the campsite are too keep dogs on leads and this we were happy to do, it is a lovely site with excellent facilities and good pitches. Being first timers we struggled a bit with the awning but after two hours we were able to sit down and enjoy our achievements. Good advice was given by the staff as too how too make it easier the next time when setting up, and this has been taken onboard. A really lovely small site which has excellent facilities. Quite high up so can be breezy when putting a tent up! We were attracted to this site mainly because they made a big deal on their website about noise management which wasn't quite as on the ball as it might have been. Had to twice ask for radio/music to be turned off after the curfew when the site claims no electric music devices are allowed. This is only a minor thing and might have just been because the English schools weren't on holiday yet so not quite as vigilant. Would still go back, might try a wigwam next time....Read less.

I took my Motorhome to the site, having stayed in the area some time earlier, and looking forward to some of the cycle routes. My motorhome managed the approach up the hills from Haltwhistle quite easily, but the campsite comments on approaching from the Military Road is quite valid if you have a towed caravan.

The site was good in every way, being very tidy and clean.. Brilliant weather was a real bonus! It would be a bit draughty it there was strong windy weather.

If you are the bottom of the hill and going up to the campsite, you have just over 3/4 of a mile and you will be climbing about 250ft. Fine for the young and foolish. I pushed my bike for some of it!

This site took us by surprise at both it's position & quality of the facilities. The showers were amazing & kept spotlessly clean. The staff in the reception really couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. It wasn't possible to really walk anywhere from the site, but because of it's location to the A69 everything was very easy to access. The views over Haltwhistle from the site were stunning, with the added bonus of seeing Barn Owls hunting in the evening. The animals on the farm were great for the kids (we didn't have children with us) & it was lovely to see & hear them enjoying themselves so much. We would definitely visit it again....Read less.

The staff were friendly from the moment we arrived until the moment we left which meant we felt very welcome throughout our stay. Our Wigwam was spacious and clean, as were the shower blocks, which really made our stay brilliant. Our hot tub was gorgeous and was ready for us as we arrived which was lovely! Overall our visit was excellent and I would definitely return with my partner again and would also recommend to family and friends too. The camp really catered for all ages and party types. It was my boyfriends 23rd birthday while we were there and we felt very comfortable having a romantic break, there were also many children, families and older couples there at the samd time and everyone felt welcome. However some negatives include the beds being very uncomfortable, my partner and i both woke up with back pain the next morning as it felt like we had slept on a plank of wood. We ended up moving the sofa cushions onto our bed for the second night in hope of more comfort however it did not make the bed any more comfortable. This ruined our stay slightly as we were unable to enjoy our day after a poor nights sleep. Also the local Hadrians wall bus, which we were told to take, did not go to the camp entrance, it was about a 1/2 mile walk to the campsite which was not ideal carrying 5 bags! Regardless of our negatives, we would definitely return as it was a lovely place to stay. The positives certainly outweigh the negatives !!...Read less.

Great location for access to hadrians wall, and fantastic to have the bus stop right outside, although catching it did pose some scheduling challenges as it's not very regular. The site is great, nice walks nearby, lovely animals and the best shower facilities I've ever seen on a campsite. I would recommend the site for all of these reasons.

However...

We stayed with friends who hired a camping pod with hot tub. They were told there would be a fine if anyone not in their accommodation was found to be using it without paying an extra charge per person. ( A member of staff also tried to overcharge them for this until it was brought to their attention). So they paid the extra but when the weather turned stormy ,they thought it may have been unsafe to use it. When they went to the office to cancel it they were told there would be no refund which seemed really unfair and very stingy.

And on the subject of stingy, I also ordered some of the pizzas which were advertised as being something special. I was charged £34 for 3 x 9 inch pizzas, 1 garlic bread and a few bags of chips. The pizzas were over cooked and had very little topping and I would not recommend them at all.

For these reasons we feel like campsite guests are being charged over the odds for these extras and it left our family feeling a bit negative.

But taking hot tub and pizza extortion out of the equation the site itself is absolutely lovely.

Facilities were clean and very pleasant. However, there is no playing field for children to do football, etc at the campsite, this was disappointing. Fridge facility would have been nice since not everyone has camping fridge.

But one of the most disappointing things for us was the fact that one of the wardens was so rude to our children. Kids were upset since he was so rude to them even though they did nothing wrong. They simply pressed the bell at the reception since there was no one there and the note says that they can ring the bell to call wardens if there was no one there. They just went to ask something. Our first camping trip for a number of years. We'd hired a motorhome and stayed for two nights.

Overall the site raised the bar, quiet, great facilities and close to local amenities. We took advantage of the pizza service delivered to our door from reception.

The park is about 1 mile from Hadrian's wall, which we walked to via Haltwhistle Burn, across to milecastle 42 and then via Sycamore Gap to Housesteads. The AD122 bus stops at the Milecastle public house about 0.5 mile from site before looping via Greenhead and Haltwhistle to a stop right outside site.

We also visited the Sill about 3 miles along military road. Great facility for the family covering local geology and dark skies. Great cafe and roof terrace with views to Hadrian's wall.

The showers were great and toilet block always clean. The site had easy access to motorhome service point for fresh water, grey water drain and chemical disposal....Read less.

Great lcoation, great facilities.

Only disappointment being the curfew on the hot tub. One of the main reasons for choosing this site was for a cabin with hot tub, we found out once we arrived at site that the hot tub had a curfew - bearing in mind you are out hiking for as long as possible during the day, then enjoying a meal out, then getting back to campsite, showering etc before you climb into hot tub - the curfew leaves you little time to actually enjoy the main attraction. Guests should be trusted to respect their surroundings and fellow neighbours without imposing a curfew. Unfortunately this did leave a bitter taste :(...Read less.

This was our second visit to the site, and much more relaxing than our first trip last year when it was our daughter's wedding reception nearby and we were rushing around to ensure that everything went smoothly. It was a pleasure to return to the site and enjoy the luxury of your fantastic hot showers and underfloor heating after a very enjoyable but hectic time. We promised to return, and once again, the site delivered to the max. One slight niggle was that I was unaware that little local bus service is seasonal. No worries - we just enjoyed the site facilities and the nearby countryside of foot as far as my restricted mobility allowed. Last year we had a 20 year old caravan, this year we came in our brand new motor home. Well certainly be back again as it's undoubtedly one of the best ways to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to return! The various animals are a really special attraction too - especially the Alpacas and their amazing range of facial expressions. Love the local beer and free range eggs... In fact, love everything at Herding Hill... We're a retired couple in our 60s, but the range of units and the super facilities ensure that the site is perfect for all ages. Our 2 elderly spaniels enjoyed it too - especially as the site is mostly level. My dentist is planning to visit with his wife and 2 very young daughters, and our daughter and her husband are also keen to visit. We'll certainly be back again and will be spreading the word. Great campsite with excellent facilities. Wigwams clean and well equipped. The location is beautiful and the kids loved the playground and feeding the animals. The only downside was the attitude of some of the staff when booking, it felt like they disapproved of us coming as a group, even though we were 4 families with young children. We had a week travelling around Northumberland in our Motorhome during Sept 2017 and had been staying at a different place each night. We had visited Housesteads Fort on Hadrians Wall on a very wet and cold day and decided to call it a day and find a local site. We tend to use Google and it showed a site very nearby, Herding Hill Farm. We can be self sufficient if needed so decided to take a chance and book in. We had no idea what to expect and what a very, very pleasant surprise!! The lady at reception was very polite, helpful and considering the weather, very cheerful. The shop is not very big but has lots of very useful items. I particularly liked the single laundry tablets. Very thoughtful idea. Our pitch in the touring park was directly opposite the showers but still felt private with plenty of space between pitches. We had a serviced pitch and the hard standing was good and flat. The weather was horrible so we didn't venture to far but did look around the lovely wigwam area. We checked out the drying room which housed a fridge, charging points and vending machines. An excellent idea and another nice touch. And lastly the showers. We have used a lot of different ones over the years and we think these are the best we've ever used! Plenty of hot water and space. Handy hooks and a tray for toiletries too. Then of course there's the underfloor heating which made it wonderfully warm and comfortable.

We went for a night as a stop gap but next time we'll be planning our travels around a longer stay at Herding Hill Farm. Thank you for a very pleasant stay....Read less.

We found Herding Hill Farm. Althought we though about Sheild wall and the others we dicided on here due to it being on route.

What a suprise we had. Animals to pet, pissa night and a cracking local pub.

Its with easy reach of some of the best section of the wall and all in all a great spot.

I must say they have the best shower block ive ever used on a campsite. A welcome relief after many hours in the sadal.

What a fantastic site!

We received a lovely friendly greeting upon arrival.

The site is in beautiful countryside, absolutely immaculate, shower facilities beyond expectation and far superior to any site we've stayed before, including the well known brands.

We don't have children but, equally enjoyed looking at the animals on site.

The site is situated within easy driving distance of Hadrian's Wall and National Trust park which we wished to visit.

We enjoyed a meal in the local pub which was a few minutes drive away.

We would certainly recommend this site to anyone that wants a quiet break and to people with young families....Read less.

Lovely camping site. We came as a family of four with two young children and two dogs. We were all made very welcome. We were on a super pitch with our own caravan, our water pipe wouldn't fit to the tap, the staff were very helpful and gave us a connector to attach it. The play park was brilliant and very well maintained. Our 3 year old daughter loved helping to feed the animals on the site and was thrilled to have a ride on the buggy to see the ducklings. We ordered a pizza which was cooked on site and delivered to our caravan. A lovely added touch to our stay, also very pleased that they did gluten free too as I am a coeliac.
