The site was very good, there were lots of toilets and showers. The kitchen area was well equipped and there was a large room for use in the evening. The staff were helpful.

We arrived off the 11pm ferry and had been sent all the access codes to the campsite. We found the instructions telling us which pitch we'd been allocated but we couldn't find how to access the red zone, the access was between two camper vans. A sign would have made it easier.

The campsite is in a good location, a walk into town away and you can't get much closer to the start of a parkrun.

The ground is flat and there are hedges to shelter behind. There is absolutely no problem being beside the play ground either, people were very considerate towards the campers👍...Read less.

Campsite was good and central for our weeks trip on Orkney.

Good to have laundry and kitchen. The common room was very handy as weather was mixed and allowed us to sit and chat.

An extra kettle or hot water dispenser would be good and possibly an extra microwave.

Showers were lovely and hot, did feel the bathroom facilities could have been cleaner. However some of the mess was down to to the folk using them ( same in kitchen).

Good to see a campsite still providing decent tent space…many have moved to all campervan/MH. Also at a fairly reasonable price.

After a wet week parts of the site were flooded especially some tent areas…maybe drainage needs looking at.

Staff were friendly and helpful and had their work cutout at times with some guests.

A drying area for outdoor clothes would be very useful....Read less.

It was great to be able to pitch as a late arrival from the Aberdeen to Orkney ferry. Fortunately it was virtually Midsummer, light enough to pitch up. The area for hikers tents is relatively level, though I had a problem pushing in some pegs due to stone about 30mm below the surface, this may have been only at my pitch. The site is very well run, facilities are good and very clean and well-maintained.

Its location near the centre of Kirkwall is perfect for exploring the islands.

My only gripes are:

The site can get noisy due to adjacent roads and the leisure centre.

I would strongly recommend the Orkney Caravan Park for a stay. The site is easily accessible and within walking distance of 3 excellent supermarkets and the City of Kirkwall centre. Being in the middle of Mainland it was easy to drive anywhere on the island.

The facilities are good and the combination of toilets and showers in same room was just like the facilities at home. Washing up was easy with the large sinks.

The Site caters for tents, caravans and campervans and busy as a result but there is still plenty of room between pitches....Read less.

As a family of 4, we booked a pod that sleeps 5, however there was not enough room for us all, 2 comfortable seats and 2 foldable benches. We were advised on the morning of arrival that we would have to take plates, cutlery & cups, which we could have taken if we had known, for the price we paid this is something we would have expected.

We spoke with the park attendant to ask where the water was and they were rude and unhelpful.

So as far as booking a pod is concerned we would not book again, but maybe with a caravan/ campervan as there is a big lounge and wifi...Read less.

We stayed a week at Pickaquoy in June (25). The campsite was reasonably quiet and good shops were very close. Toilet/shower block was not very well cleaned, the kitchen rules were not adhered to and were not enforced by the warden. This resulted in the kitchen being very untidy and not very clean. The kitchen area is also the washing up area so even if you are not cooking (well making toast or using the microwave) the cleanliness was still an issue. Part of the reason for all of this is that the wardens were not on site all the time as they are in many other campsites. The wardens themselves were friendly enough but because they are not resident they did not seem to be engaged, it was just a job.

Orkney is a brilliant destination but this campsite is not recommended in its current state....Read less.

Pickaquoy campsite is easy to find on the edge of town. Access is good and the amenities are spacious, immaculate and include a comfortable lounge which is really useful for the cyclists with tiny tents on cold, windy days. The times that the reception is open are displayed and the receptionist is friendly and helpful The town's attractions are all within easy walking distance and the 3 supermarkets conveniently located close together just along the main road.

We stayed two nights here it was walking distance into the town with a swimming pool next door the staff were so helpfull and nothing was too much trouble. It had a laundry. Lounge for campers to use kettle kitchen and microwave a boo. For people in tents A drying room and also cycle hire we had one good day out of the. We stayed here for our fist night in Orkney having arrived by the late ferry from Shetland. The site was easy to find and our pitch was good. The site facilities were good. The site was well laid out allowing plenty space between pitches. Campers were also welcome with a lounge, cooking, dishwashing facilities. The showers were self contained toilet/washroom which was excellent and clean.

This was / is the perfect base for exploring both Kirkwall itself and Orkney mainland more generally. It was a lovely surprise to have the luxury of a common room with a kitchen and laundry in addition to the showers and loos. The indoor facilities allow you to socialise and meet others in some of Orkney's less clement conditions and makes it more like a hostel - great if you'retravellingalone. Very civilised!

It is very conveniently sited next to the leisure centre and only a stone's throw from a Tesco and a Lidl!

The site is well laid out, quiet and sheltered.

The only slightly frustrating issue was that the WiFi was either very poor or just not working.

This is a really convenient and comfortable site. Having shower rooms with an loo and a sink is a real treat when camping and the lounge/washing facilities were perfect.

The only negative is that one field is alongside a noisy road, not a problem if you know but definitely was not a relaxing place to sit out.

Second time we've stayed. The facilities are very good. Easy access to waste facilities for the campervan. The shower and toilet block is clean, and we like that the individual cubicles have toilet and shower in them. The pitches are a good size, no problems with getting set up. The wi-fi is very slow, so only used for very basic stuff, emails etc, we tended to use 4g which was fine. The main issue, although relatively minor, is road noise. The site is next to quite a busy road, so although it quietens down overnight, the traffic does start early. If you're used to traffic noise then probably not an issue. The location is good, just a quarter of an hour walk into the middle of Kirkwall, and of course if you're taking a ferfy for the day, easy to get the port. All in all a very good site....Read less.

Réception people are very nice, there's a nice lounge room, a kitchen with a bridge so, if the weather is cold and you are in a small tent you can shelter, if the weather is too warm, you can protect your butter! I have stayed here a number of times over the years, always camping. The facilities block is first rate and the wardens work hard to keep it very clean and tidy. My one very small gripe is that there needs to be huge improvements to the wi fi.

The tent pitches are flat and even and there is some shelter provided by walls and shrubs. There can be a lot of camper vans on the site so sensible to camp away from the road edge!

This campsite is a 5 minute walk from 3 supermarkets and the centre of Kirkwall is less than another 5 minutes away. Check the cruise liner schedule and avoid Kirkwall if a big ship is in, as it gets very busy.

I have lost count of the number of times I have camped here and I keep coming back. That should tell you everything you need to know....Read less.

This is approx the 4th time we’ve stayed on this site. The facilities are usually excellent but unfortunately this time there were a few of the toilets that weren’t in use which was a pain when you have to dispose of sanitary wear and the toilets that had those facilities were in use! There’s a laundry room although I haven’t used it so can’t comment on that and good dish washing area.

Site is in an excellent position for local shops with Tesco being just around the corner. There are some nice shops close by although there geared for tourists so can be expensive. A couple of nice coffee shops and there’s a chippie where you can sit in which is very nice. Overall a very nice visit again....Read less.

We had stayed in a couple of sites on Orkney and were wandering around looking for somewhere that evening. The previous three days we had been staying at a site, which was little more than a meadow with electric points and a couple of Portakabin’s. We had rejected a site on South Ronaldsay too remote and that was beginning to feel the norm for Orkney.

This is a great site. Staffed during the day by friendly and helpful people. The facilities are always clean and there is plenty of space in the kitchen area if the weather turns nasty.
