This is an idyllic site positioned on an island in the river Thames. Charles came to meet use very shortly after arrival and checked back in with us later in the stay. Although the website does warn of an 8m individual vehicle length limit for access we had no difficulty with our twin axle caravan and Discovery.

Plenty of walking options from the site, pubs in all directions and bostin coffee shop just up the road

Cannot fault this site … Beautiful location and we have stayed there many times . There are 2 locations to choose from and both are stunning . There are no showers but if you want total peace and enjoy nature , you will love it . The owner is so nice and welcoming and as limited pitches , you will have so much freedom . We stayed on the cricket bat field, right by the side of the Thames. The site has an Elsan point and fresh water, but that’s it. This is the nearest you get to wild camping so your unit has to have full facilities. We love this site as it’s so quiet and peaceful and on a sunny day it’s great to sit out in your deck chair and watch the wild life, paddle borders and boats go by. There is a pub nearby within walking distance and Faringdon is a few miles away, but there is very little else,...Read less.

Super location for relaxing and watching the world go by especially the boats and wildlife. Lovely walks along the River Thames in both directions and a welcoming pub next door to the site to have a drink and meal. Only criticism I would have is the access to the Island over the hump back bridge. The roadway could do with levelling off in the middle as it can scrape the underneath of longer vehicles and caravans. Otherwise perfect 😁...Read less.

This is a great site if you want a dog friendly space. Water and Elsan available but no EHU. Lots of room and pub next door. Tow path walks and a few minutes drive to Lechlade, Faringdon and Clanfield. The owner is lovely and very helpful....Read less.

A longer stay this year gave us even more time to fall in love with Cricket Bat Field. Charles is such a generous host, and by limiting the number of vans he allows onto the field, there is always a huge amount of space.

I spent some of our stay in the van on my own and felt completely safe and comfortable, which says a lot about the peaceful atmosphere of the site. Can’t wait to book again for next year.

If you are looking for a mix of peace and quiet yet love activities like cycling , walking and water sports at your door step, Friars Court is a must to go to. Basic flat site, no ehu, or dedicated motorhome waste point but very clean with a very friendly host to look after you whilst onsite....Read less.

A wonderful location on the Thames within spitting distance of a decent pub. Lovely walks along the Thames path and to the nearest village.

Charles is an excellent host, his family have lived and farmed here for three generations and his local knowledge is worth seeking out. If the CL is full there is the Cricket Bat field as an alternative (Charles will fill you in on the unusual name), it’s a little more remote, but just as beautiful with riverside pitches.

If you can bear to be without electricity for a few nights then this CL is not to be missed.

Great place for a weekend getaway. We stayed on the cricket bat field so we would be close to the pub as my husband had a bad foot. It was a very hot weekend, and so it was great just watching the few boats go by and people having fun on the river, I walked along the river bank on the other side of the island up to the other field and was fortunate enough to see a Grey Heron and a family of Swans. Can't really comment on the fishing as the husbandt spent most of his time catching lots of small young fish that were in abundance this time of year July/Aug weekend and he'd forgotten to buy some boilies!...Read less.

A stunning setting on the banks of the River Thames, very quiet as only a very few campers allowed at any one time. Charles was an absolute diamond, friendly and welcoming and an absolute mind of information. We walked, cycled and paddle boarded and of course visited The Swan which was only a short walk away.

South London Centre of the Caravan & Motorhome Club

This is our 2nd visit to the Cricket Bat Field, the first being in 2024. The location and field are perfect as a venue for our annual holiday rally and we have been extremely fortunate in that during both visits the weather has been ideal. Being alongside the River Thames on a relatively safe stretch enables the use of small dinghy's and paddle boards with just a short row along the river to a friendly pub. Shade is plentiful under the willow trees, and there is ample space to be sited with a nice view of the river from your van.

Charles Willmer is an excellent host who checks up on us regularly by visiting the field and we enjoyed an afternoon tea with his freshly cooked scones and lemon drizzle cake and lashings of strawberry jam and cream (well worth trying!).

The local village is easily accessible by bicycle and supermarkets and shops are a short car ride into Faringdon.

We would thoroughly recommend this venue to anyone....Read less.

We visit the Cricket Bat Field every year and every year it feels like home. The host is always so accommodating and the surroundings are so peaceful. A beautiful collection of wildlife - discovered a Hummingbird Moth this year - didn't even know that was a thing!

The proximity to the water provides a gorgeous (almost private) swim and paddle spot - perfect for exploring the wider Thames area. Walking distance of a pub and miles of rolling countryside. Just perfect!...Read less.

Some lovely walking in the area, the food at the Ship was excellent. Unfortunately the fine weather and 35° were a touch too much to be in a caravan so we came home a day early.

Local towns aren’t the best but the available walks make up for what this part of the Cotswolds are lacking.

We have just ran our second rally for the Caravan & Motor Home club. It’s such a beautiful place and very peaceful, there are plenty of good pubs around and lovely walks. As the River Thames runs through the site you can either watch the boats go up & down or bring your own paddle boards etc you can even fish with a license.

The CL at friars court island site is wonderful pitch right on the river good for nearly all watersports fishing,and if you enjoy river swimming just right for you .shops a short drive .good pub right on your doorstep.the site provides clean water tap and toilet emptying facilities.overall excellent CL....Read less.

Third stay at Friars court. 2nd time in CBF which is our favourite. Pitch up where you fancy looking out onto the Thames. Enjoy the passing boats and the wildlife. Charles is very helpful and looking is easy online. Bampton is a lovely village we enjoyed a cycle to, as well as Faringdon with it's full array of supermarkets, cafes, an excellent baker shop and fish and chips! Will be back again....Read less.

This is an unusual CL, sitting on effectively an island in the Thames. There is good access to the river for paddle craft, long river side walks, and a nearby pub that offers a good choice of beers and food. Along the river to the west is The Plough Inn, about 1hr 15mins leisurely walk. To the east along the river and a little further is The Trout at Tadpole Bridge. Both offer beers and food, the former being more village pub like, and the latter more grand and possibly better quality.

There are good shops available in Faringdon to satisfy most needs, and nearby Bampton has a good Coop, but parking ca be limited.

And if you want something a little more basic and quieter, there is a field further along the Thames which is part of the sale Friars Court set up. Any questions are cheerfully answered by the hosts, who visit the site daily to check all is Ok....Read less.

Very peaceful, full of wildlife with occasional boats floating past. Fab pub (recently taken over and completely refurbished) within 100m which provides great food even GF food. Water taps provided and waste disposal available but otherwise basic but beautiful. The best thing about this site is it's genuinely riverside location, as in we were pitched 5m from the bank with a low section next to us from which we could easily launch our kayak. It's an off grid site with one fresh and one rinse tap and an elsan tipping.point, all of which are at one end and of a good standard. The grass is mowed, but not short. The immediate area is covered in footpaths, so walking from the site is easy, Kelmscott and Busccott houses are nearby and it's only a 10 minute drive into Faringdon with shops and food outlets (a visit to the folly tower is also recommended). The Swan pub next to the site serves good beer and the food was good. It had recently reopened and the new management clearly had plans to improve it further. Wildlife wise it's a fantastic site and area too and we were treated to an airshow daily courtesy of RAF Brize and USAF Fairford aircraft right overhead. We will definitely be back!...Read less.

First visit was to the island. Exceptional weather in fantastic surroundings. We returned in October to cricket bat field (picture below taken from our pitch) which we enjoyed even more. Great location. Peace and quiet. Cricket bat field is now our favourite, so we'll be returning in 2026. Farringdon was a good walk from the site, but we made it.
