This was our first visit to this site and what value! Excellent 'new' facilities which are superbly maintained and extremely clean! They have everything including underfloor heating (great at this time of year!) and a full size bath for a family. The staff couldn't be more helpful and accommodating. Each plot has full services, water, drainage and electric hook up. We took our bikes across the camping field straight onto the Tissington Trail. Also walked this trail to the Royal Oak pub where you can get excellent food, which we did! Pomeroy make their own milk and ice cream which are delicious! Its a working farm and they have chickens, so fresh eggs are available and also goats, which you can feed! We will certainly be visiting again....Read less.

Excellent value site with first class wash facilities, drainage own tap and electricity supply.

Good flat caravan pitches, although not much tree protection from high winds.

We took our dog and the site was good for easy access to off lead walks. The free WiFi was a great surprise. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Noise was kept to a minimum and we are now looking forward to returning with our 1 year old next year. Overall we were very happy with our stay and look forward to returning....Read less.

I came with my parents and close family friends for a small weekend away and last camping trip of the year however it was so nice and the surrounding areas so enticing I really wished I had booked a few extra days off. We arrived at night however we weren't the only ones pitching up so didn't feel rude making a bit of noise. The pitch sizes were perfect even for our massive tent so none of us felt we were stepping on toes.

I know its cliché to say but the facilities here were great. As a camper I am used to putting up with muddy floors, windy rooms and luke warm showers but here it felt like I was stepping into a 5* sports spa, we were all very impressed.

I was signed up to a charity walk the second day (and would really recommend walking around the area as it is beautiful) but the rest of the group went to Bakewell, it was so nice we all visited the following day for some window shopping.

After finding out I was staying on a Dairy Farm I had to get some ice cream in and finally as we were due to leave the shop opened (I had arrived to late the first day and left to early for the walk the second day) and I had a great tub of ice cream (Chocolate and salted caramel!!) it was perfect!

It was a great weekend break and we will be booking many more times....Read less.

Thanks for taking the time to leave such a lovely review.

It is nice to hear that you enjoyed our site so much!

The cows do have access to the driveway field, but they will move out of the way for you eventually.

We always suggest that you walk via the High Peak trail to the pub, as it avoids the main road.

Cannot recommend this site enough, from beginning to end it was a pleasure. The lady booked us pitches together and remembered me when we turned up, a little thing but was nice. Every pitch has a tap, again a little thing but noticeably nice. The shower block is just immaculate and spacious, probably one of the main reasons we’ll return. One of our party couldn’t make it due to illness, my dad ended up sleeping in his small van (not a camper!), the morning after the lady had knocked some money off his bill. We didn’t expect this but was a lovely gesture and the kind of thing that just adds to the list of reasons to stay at Pomperoy....Read less.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a fantastic review.

The site was great. Friendly, helpful staff from the start. There is a great shop which was reasonably priced for the extras we needed. The pitches have plenty of room. We chose the serviced pitches which were ace. The facilities are imaculate with great showers, toilets and potwash areas. The site is small enough so nothing is too far away. The walk to local pubs with great food is reasonable with choices of 10 minute, 25 minute and 1 hour walks. The local area was ace we visited speedwell caverns and peak caverns with a day in Buxton too. The small farm area was great our kids loved feeding the chickens and goats. Nothing to dislike really. Maybe the exit to the peak trail could be safer for really young or elderly people. For some reason probably distance the wifi didnt work. We were told that theyd had a new provider. Hi

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.

Our cleaner comes every day between 11am and 2pm. Soap is checked then and replenished when needed.

As we are now in our busy season, the cleaner changes the toilet rolls every day between the times above. They are also checked between 5am- 6am, before the morning rush.

We are open at Reception between the hours of 9am-6.30pm (Fri/Sat 9am-7pm) and outside these hours there is an emergency contact number.

I enjoyed my stay on this campsite. I stayed in August, and would not do that again, as I ended up with noisy neighbours for my last couple of nights (a noisy child who hit balls around my van, and a father who shouted at her a lot). However, I would be very happy to return out of school holidays. The pitches were an adequate size for my small campervan, but the big tents (in the electric hook-up area) looked a little too close together.

The toilet, shower and washing up facilities were excellent, with 5 loos, 5 showers, and 5 washing up sinks to use. There is also a family bathroom with a loo, hand sink and a bath.

I enjoyed the easy access to the cycle track, and the fact that I could catch a bus into Buxton from near the campsite. There was only one suitable bus to get in, and only one to get back. However, by taking the bus back to Earl Sterndale, and taking a very pleasant 2.5 mile walk to the campsite, I was able to return at a more flexible time....Read less.

Excellent, level pitch with electric and tap, and good value for money (we were in a small tent). Facilities were clean, modern and very spacious - probably the best I have ever had at a campsite, and I only go to ones with good toilet / shower facilities. The on-site shop was useful, selling first class milk and ice-cream as a bonus! The children enjoyed feeding the goats. The site was quite busy, but still quiet, with a nice atmosphere. The access to the High Peak Trail was great if you have bikes. Initially, I was put off this site due to the proximity to the A515, but in reality the noise from the road is minimal (more like background hum). The areas around the site are scenic and great for walking, and some are quiet and not too touristy. There are also good pubs nearby, and we appreciated the recommendations from the site. Dishwashing room is of a high standard also, with information boards and a fridge for campers’ ice packs. Overall, I would highly recommend this site to campers and caravanners alike. Probably my only slight negative would be that the tent field has many sloping parts, but actually I would recommend to pay for the “serviced” and numbered pitches - it’s not too expensive compared to many sites in the UK....Read less.

My wife and I made a last minute decision to take our 2 teenage boys camping again after a long time since our last camping trip.

After a quick internet search for campsites in Peak District, we came across Pomeroy on Pitchup and based on the reviews and location we decided to go ahead and book it.

We arrived at 11am a bit before the time stated for arrivals but the site staff were very helpful and our pitch was ready. The pitch was a good size and the water and electric hookup were well located.

Once the tent was up and ready we had a little look around at the facilities. The shower block was exceptionally clean and a great size with under floor heating. The shop onsite was well stocked with many items and not to much more than going to the nearest good size town to purchase things.

The only disappointing thing was we wanted to hire a fire pit, which for £20 for the length of your stay is good if you are there for a week or two. However we were only there 2 nights so the value for money wasn't good.

Both my boys loved the Pygmy goats and must've spent a small fortune on goat food to keep visiting them even if they are 14 and 16.

The location was great half way between Buxton and Ashborne so lots of opportunities to visit the local area. We will be returning to the site again....Read less.

Hi

Thankyou for the fantastic review.

It is nice to hear when people have had a lovely time, especially as you havent been camping for quite a long time!!

The firepits are the price that they are mainly because of what is included. The equipment that we let out with the firepit, and also the firelighters, kindling and logs that you use, have all been taken into account and the hire is costed accordingly.

I hope to see you again soon!

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.

We are a small rural site, and for that reason only stock essentials in our shop.

We have recently had a state of the art facility block installed, including large showers and toilets, a disabled bathroom, and family bathroom with full size bath. You will never find a queue outside our showerblock, like at lots of other sites during peak usage times.

Our toilets are checked by staff between 5-6am, and then a cleaner comes in every day between 11-2pm. We frequently get compliments via reviews and in person on how clean our facility block is.

We have a small team of staff that work behind the scenes, but the Reception staff are the face of the site, and so it is unlikely you will see anyone apart from them during your stay.

If you would like to discuss any of these points in further detail, please email me directly.

Kind Regards

Steph

We have never been camping before, a friend was good enough to lend us her camping equipment and tent. She recommended Pomeroy campsite. We booked a pitch without electric hook-up as we have three children aged 12,9 and 5 years old and we said no electric gadgets for 5 nights!!! Camping was great, when everything was up and where we wanted it, it was time to relax. Pomeroy Campsite is behind a working cow farm, with a vista of rolling hills and the odd cow on them, it was great to get the country side sounds! The facilities at Pomeroy were absolutely great a real shock from what we thought camping was like. Clean, Hot, Close, everything we needed. There is a friendly little shop doubling as a reception, selling equipment you might need, and amazing Ice-cream (made from there own cows) which the kids loved. Everyone was so friendly including the other campers. At the bottom the campsite is a disused railway which is now a walk way, which was great, we only used it for visits to pubs along the trail, but we can't wait to return to explore this trail further. Pomeroy is a good location for Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock Bath which we visted them all. All in all the experience for the first time camping for our family was brilliant and the was mainly because of Pomeroy Campsite. (we came home and went to GoOutdoors to buy a Tent!)...Read less.

The tent next to ours strayed on to our pitch - they said they would move it if we wanted, but they were no problem and we didn't need all our space. Very popular with family groups with children, so best to avoid school holidays if you want peace and quiet. We visited mid August and there were great family corals of several tents together. To be fair once 10.00pm came all was quiet and we had a peaceful night's sleep. Toilets and showers are excellent. We stayed in the tent field (non electric), lovely big area with loads of space, could pitch where we liked & had loads of room. Gorgeous views all round. Staff welcoming & helpful when we arrived, shower/toilet facilities were very clean & well kept. Showers free & lovely hot water, plus cubicles were very spacious with a bench too so easy to shower the kids. Also they had a family bathroom with a bath which would be great for the younger ones. Washing up block also clean & plenty of sinks, freezer for ice blocks plus information board & local attractions leaflets. Though no playground on site we didn't miss it as there was loads of space to run around & play with other kids, also a seperate field (within sight) just for ball games. The highlight for our little one was feeding the pygmy goats they had on site. We loved the cycle path just beyond the tent field, was great for running routes too, but I would advise accessing it via the cycle access path rather than the very (very!) steep steps. We have stayed on this site before. Facilities & super pitch services are really good. All staff are very friendly & helpful. The thing that we are not happy with is there are no barriers at the entrance therefore there is no security & anyone can come in or out of the site. Also the pitches are so close together when you sit outside you are very close to your neighbors. The caravan that was next to us had a dog, the lady put it on a lead attached to the tow bar & because we have to park so close to us it kept coming into our awning. We had a dog with us, so when the neighbours dog kept coming in it kept eating our dogs food. Really like this site but the only “one” bad thing we can say is the pitches are far too close together...Read less.

We know the Buxton area quite well and we found precisely what we were looking for at Pomeroy. It was spacious, well laid out and has very clean, high quality facilities.

Especially attractive to us is their enclosed dog-walking area in which our three dogs could run to their hearts content.

A pub near by . . that is within walking distance. We met people there who say they return again, and again.

The good facts about this park is the knowledge, helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, the toilet and shower facilities are some of the best I've seen. The bad facts, irresponsible dog owners (yappy dogs) are not taken to task by the staff. Tent owners seem to think that it's okay to pitch up right to the mark of the next pitch instead of the start mark of their own pitch, a little off putting when you look out the bedroom window and the wall of a tent is twelve inches from your window. This isn't the direct fault of the staff but I know that when we arrived at the site we were asked to park as near to the marker as possible, I'm sure the tent owners are also told this but, again the staff don't ask them to move.

The Ugly part isn't really as ugly as it sounds, but twice a day water pressure drops when it's milking time, ( these times usually coincide with meal times) I don't use an aqua roll and made the mistake of not filling the onboard tank when I had the chance, can't blame the staff/owners for that one. A bit of advice to all going to this well set out park, Fill your water containers. We had the unfortunate situation of the water being shut down by water company for the best part of a day and evening. One last point, the home made ice cream is to die for....Read less.

Hi, there's no comments section on the form so I'm putting this here. I would recommend that you put something in the info you provide customers when they arrive about the instability of the drystone walls and the potential risk if children climb on them. There are sections where the wall has collapsed and other parts of the wall that look unstable. We were a large group that included 20+ kids. Staff should have briefed us on arrival about the risk. I'm not sure I would have barbed wire on the edge of the ball/play field either! Just some advice, which is intended to be helpful rather than a major criticism. Hi

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review, I am glad you had a nice stay.

There are a couple of points that you have raised that I feel I should address.

We are a small farm aswell as a campsite and so on occasion there will be farm animals in the fields surrounding the site. For this reason, we stipulate in our welcome note that access to any field that is not a designated campsite field is strictly prohibited for your own safety.

Our dry stone walls and wire fences are what separates the farm from the campsite, and for anyone to either climb on or over these walls into prohibited fields is not only against our rules, but is also very dangerous.

The wall in question does have 2 low spots that need to be built back up, but this is a regular thing with dry stone walls and does not mean that they are unstable. This wall is also not surrounding any of our camping fields where people have their tents, but is actually on the approach to our Dog Exercise field. We would expect people to supervise both their children, and their pets at all times when onsite, and we would hope that parental supervision would prevent children from climbing over walls into out of bounds areas.

Kind Regards

Toilet block very new and spotlessly clean - it is a fairly simple site (i.e. only real other leisure facilities are a ball game field" but perfect for encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors. my only recommendations would be to have improved grey water services/facilities for motorhomes given the pitches are listed as fully serviced as we were unable to empty ours at the site despite the pitches being serviced (they only operate with outlets via container or connecting pipe, and don't have an over drain dump commonly needed for motorhomes)....Read less.

Lovely site, right next to the northern end of the High Peak Trail. Delicious home produced ice cream and fresh, unhomogenised full cream milk. We cannot fault the cleanliness of the shower block and pot wash room, except where the majority were let down by a minority of other visitors who sadly did not have hate courtesy to clean up after themselves. It doesn’t take a minute to rinse out a sink or remove bits of food left in the washing up water, does it? Shame.

We would have preferred to have had gates at the entrance to the camping fields which could be locked at night. We did feel a bit nervous leaving our bikes chained to the post and rail fence overnight but nothing was taken and we did not see any suspicious activity. iMuch as we love dogs, it would also have been a good idea to limit the length of dog tethers . The dog from the next door caravan roamed about on our pitch and we even had visits from a dog from 3 pitches away. Overall a great place to stay. Would recommend....Read less.

I was more than satisfied with the facilities, the cleanliness, location, access to high peak trail, price and the shop was very good. The small goat petting area was added fun.

The only downside was a school group pinched very close to us, so close I could easily see what they were cooking and hear every word! They woke us up at 6 am shouting and giddy, right outside our tent! If I had known there was a school group coming I would have been much more selective about where I pitched, it felt like we had very little privacy. Not the campsites fault, maybe the teachers could have moved them a bit further away. Teenagers on a residential trip are going to be rowdy, we just had bad luck i guess.

Stayed at Pomeroy caravan and campsite for the 2nd time over the May Bank holiday weekend , love this site and is a must for any camper whether your in a caravan or tent . Excellent facilities, spotlessly clean , quiet and peaceful and huge pitches , new dog exercise field just opened and they sell their own icecream at reception and on The High Peak Trail . Usual high standards helping to make our long weekend stay enjoyable. A couple of nice additions since we last stayed with the petting corner and quality home made ice cream.

Slight gripe was the drop in water pressure when showering during our stay, not sure if this was due to huge demand or issues out of the campsites control.!...Read less.

We booked this site as the usual one we stay at in the Peak District was fully booked. It was excellent and we will likely return in the future. Facilities were excellent and clean (although the water stopped working one evening). Friendly, accomodating staff and handy little shop (ice creams were a hit with kids). Lovely little petting area with goats and chickens which the kids loved too. The camping field was on a slope unfortunately so did affect our quality of sleep. Loved the separate area for ball games and the enclosed dog exercise area. Our average size Labrador could fit under the gate, so would be good if that could be addressed. Also a little fire broke out by the rubbish bins as someone put a used BBQ in the general waste. Can't account for silly people but perhaps would be a good idea to provide a metal bin for ashes! Overall a really great campsite and would highly recommend....Read less.

It’s our second time at Pomeroy and we loved it just as much as the first time. The site has great facilities and is very secure. There’s a pot washing area and showers which are lovely and clean. My only issue was people overfilling the bin in the pot washing area, there are large bins outside yet people filled the pot washing area one so it was overflowing, I just found it a bit disrespectful. My one and a half year old son loved feeding the goats and chickens and loved running around the field it was perfect for him. Our first stay here was in April and we were so impressed with the tidiness and good layout of the site and the facilities are AMAZING! Best showers ever - roomy cubicles with bench and hooks for your stuff. Loads of washbasins and mirrors plus hairdryer too. Family bathroom also plus disabled one too. All kept so clean and warm. The pot wash room was like a tourist info and included a washing machine and dryer. We enjoyed feeding the goats and riding our bikes along the trail which you can access from the campsite without going on any roads. Great pub food too along the trail. And to top it off enjoy Pomeroy’s very own icecream after your cycle ride from the campsite shop. Unfortunately we had a very wet week. The site has only two hard standing pitches and they are narrow. We had one but the grass around it became thick mud. The staff were great and moved us on to the car park but it wasn’t ideal and we left early. It might be worth adding some more hardstanding and looking at drainage. We stayed at Pomeroy over the very wet and cold Easter weekend, having stayed many times in the past with the previous owners. The previous stay had been our last for a number of years due to the neglected state of the site. We were therefore very much looking forward to seeing how much the facilities had improved under the new management. We were not disappointed in most respects. The toilet block is lovely and the new reception area, dog exercise field and easier access to the trail were all very welcome additions. It was, as previously mentioned, very wet and unfortunately the ground couldn’t cope with it. We had problems pitching the caravan due to the mud, as did a number of our neighbours, and one of the motor homes had to be towed off their pitch. If the drainage issues could be rectified, possibly with some hard standing put down, it would make the stay more comfortable. As it was, we returned home two days early due to the weather and mud, which seemed to coat everything and had to get the awning, ground sheet and caravan itself out again when we got home to clean them all. In conclusion, it is a good site, with the potential to be a lovely site but until there are improvements made to the ground itself, we would only consider staying again in the middle of a dry summer!...Read less.
