We were expecting the site's promised "11 acres of woodland in the tranquil and idyllic Derbyshire countryside offering a quiet and relaxing retreat" but were instead faced with a campsite which was absolutely jam packed with tents which were so squashed in, dangerously close and in breach of fire safety regulations.

I appreciate it was half-term and that the site would be busy, but it was unacceptably filthy. The bins were not simply overflowing, they were almost hidden from view behind walls of rubbish spilling over. The site smelt of sewerage across the whole 4 days we were there; not just when the site was at its busiest, but also on the Sunday and Monday when most of the half-term holiday campers had left, suggesting the water treatment plant is not capable of dealing with the site sewerage requirements.

The two wardens were friendly and as helpful are they could possibly be, given the unreasonably high numbers of tents and caravans being accommodated during the four days we stayed. It is simply not possible for two wardens to manage such a sizeable number; the site is understaffed and suffers badly as a result.

I suggest the local Council should visit this site quickly to review how it is operating in term of hygiene and health and safety, and whether its licence should be revoked.

I would travel some distance to avoid having to come back to this site!
