We booked and paid in advance and arrived at 6pm on a Saturday afternoon and were greeted by friendly staff in reception who advised us where there were pitches available. Once we got to the touring area, it was apparent that all the 'available' pitches were not free, as caravan/awning/car combos were taking up possibly more room than they were supposed to. We had been advised in reception to park with the edge of our unit (a small campervan) in line with a pitch number marker. We found a free marker which had approx 4m to the left of it and 3m to the right, so pitched at this marker. We then went out for the evening. On our return, we found a note from the warden saying we were not parked on a marked pitch (despite the pitch number being directly next to our van) and we needed to move. As it was 11:30pm and we had both had a drink, we decided it was both unsociable and inadvisable to drive our van to another empty pitch at this time. At 9am on Sunday morning we were visited by the warden who asked when we were leaving (he obviously already had this information as we only booked one night), and then he said "if you're not going soon, I'm asking you to move now, as you are not parked on a pitch". We showed him that we were parked right next to a pitch marker, but he insisted that belonged to the caravan next door, which was about 3m away from us (and also parked in front of the next pitch marker!). His opinion and stance wasn't budging, so we said we would be leaving within the next hour anyway. We spoke to two other visitors who were in small campervans, and they said they were also treated in a similar manner - one being told to move his van 0.5m over as it was not correctly pitched therefore would infringe on the next pitch. This site has huge pitches and a small campervan takes up about a third of its allotted space on a pitch, however, caravan/awning/car combos take up the whole area of their pitches, and it was these units that were pitched wrongly, yet no attempt was made by the warden to ask these people to move their units. We felt there was a definite prejudice against campervans, in favour of the caravan/awning/4x4 car combos that took up the rest of the touring area. and we will be looking for another campsite next time we visit this area.
