site on first arrival was great, we were able to get onto our pitch straight away. the pitches were all very used and worn through to the mud, the size of the pitch meant that the same piece could not be avoided. and thus not recover. The shower blocks, there are two, both seem dated and tired, however use the shower and endless hot water, and also no spring loaded shower to disturb your shower so ignore the looks and was great.

locally the Rodney Stoke pub gave a fantastic meal.

Overall we were happy with the site, our pitch was perfectly located next to the children’s park which was perfect for our son to play, the showers we not to far away from our pitch and seemed to be cleaned regularly, all staff we encountered were lovely and friendly, bar area was nice and the pool was clean, surrounding area is beautiful and supermarkets not far away, 😊 slight negative is the pitches seemed to be a little unkempt, we had to clear away rubbish from previous campers, and hedges needed a good trimming, also dogs are allowed on site but there is no where to exercise them, there’s a huge field which dogs are not allowed on and if they had a section of the field where they can be allowed to have a little run would of made it perfect, I feel if a site is dog friendly they should be considered also....Read less.

We stayed for 2 nights in August, arrived and was directed to our pitch by a helpful girl on reception. Camping field was nice and we got set up, toilet facilities were fine although could perhaps do with being slightly closer to camping field. Part of the reason we booked this site was because it had a swimming pool for the children. The pool was quite small which is fine, except the fact that some people were bombing into the pool and generally splashing which made it unpleasant for younger children. The changing rooms were also pretty grim and there was a drain full of mould and around the pool area was not very clean. We made a dash for the wash room in our swimwear rather than try and dry and shower there. Another slight bugbear was that you had to pay for hair dryers and plug sockets in the bathrooms. It wasn't a cheap site to stay at so i would expect these to be free. We also tried to take small children to the play area but it was small and overrun by older children running around not taking any care so we left, although this is down to parents not supervising rather than the park itself. It is a nice park, in a nice area so if we were over that way we may return but would hope for cleaner facilities next time....Read less.

We stayed for a couple of nights in the strawberry field. Very close to the pool, bar and children's playground. Toilet and washing facilities were clean and easy to access.

We did take a walk around the site, I am glad we were in strawberry field and tor view because the other field was over packed, very little space and full of noisy yappy dogs.

The shop needed a better stock of food, no simple items like bread or milk available so had to head to sainsbury in Cheddar.

The money off wookey holes as a result of staying here was excellent though.

Overall I'd stay here again if it was for a couple of nights, but I wouldn't stay for longer than 3 or 4 days. The camp isn't big enough to stay for longer in my opinion....Read less.

Views can be influenced by the first few minutes on a campsite and I'm afraid Bucklegrove fell at the first hurdle by offering us a totally inadequate pitch for our 7 metre caravan. Most of the pitch was on tarmac on the road leading to the camping field. The site staff eventually found us a more suitable place . The access to the site was awkward as it involved a fairly sharp incline from the road. This caused the back of the caravan to ground . A note of warning to users could be added to the website ....Read less.

The biggest let down for this site was the cleanliness of the toilets and wash rooms, this was not just on one occasion but for the complete week we stayed.

It was noted that some of the staff just signed the sheet and didn’t even attempt to clean the facilities.

The site is dated and needs some TLC considering the price they charge.

If you are a tent camper be warned that this site is mostly on a slope but they do have some pitches which are flat.

Overall the location is excellent and I would recommend to others if they would make sure that the facilities are cleaned.

We thought the cabin was on flat ground so kids could play ball outside but couldn't as it's on a hill next to road. This needs to be stated on the website. Swimming pool and facilities need an upgrade. Swimming pool water looked dirty in small pool. Grass needed cutting around cabin. When it was cut it was only strimmed and left. Bucklegrove was clean and tidy. Pretty much on a par with other campsites we have stayed at in the past. The swimming pool was fun, but the changing area doesn't have any cubicles so I would recommend getting in to your costume before you go. on the last days of our stay the loos had ran out of toilet paper (only 1 had any left for over 24 hours) so this was disappointing. Visited with my Partner and two Grandsons from Wed to Sat at the beginning of Aug. We had a basic pitch in Tor view and were very happy. On Wed and Thur the site was reasonably quiet and the standard of cleanliness across the site was good. How ever as the site got busier towards Fri and Sat so the Site just seem to fall apart. Toilets and showers were a complete mess and according to the cleaning sign off sheet were not cleaned at all on Fri. All rules regarding the supervision of children in the pool, play park and generally throughout the site were ignored by parents and there appeared to be no attempt by site staff to enforce rules which are clearly spelt out in the booking terms and conditions along with signage around the park. Whilst I appreciate many of these problems are caused by the patrons the park has a responsibility to to react to the changing dynamics of the campsite and on this occasion in my opinion they failed to do so. Shame, because this campsite could be so much better....Read less.

We first stayed at this site in 2011 when run by a lovely family so we decided to return this year. I must say we were highly disappointed now it has been taken over. The bar food is extortionate prices for the food that is served, it was half the price previously. The park has been changed and no longer fenced off and now not really suitable for toddlers apart from a couple of rockers. The park mentions it is open from 8am till dusk yet way after dusk at 11pm there are still children running round shouting and playing, i know parents should have some control but it should also be mentioned to them by staff. Being on a pitch right next to the play area was not a good idea when trying to get a 2 year old to sleep. The shower facilities are ridiculous if you stand in the rain with soap you'll get a better shower as they decide to stop the running water mid way through showering, its as though when the tap on the sinks are turned on you need to spare your shower water for them. The shop is overpriced nearly £4 for 2 ice lollies and doesn't really stock much other than toys. All in all a very disappointing second stay now it has been taken over by a group I feel it is all for money making, not the lovely family run business it was previously....Read less.

The toilets and showers were disgusting. We didnt even have a shower the next morning due to the state of them.

Also with the amount of campers on the site. In our area there were only 2 showers in the Mens and 2 showers in the Womens. Between what easily must of been well over 200 people.

Obviously you have more showers in the main block, but they weren't our immediate ones.

I spent three nights in my motor home with wife and granddaughter in August. I had a fully serviced pitch. All I can say is that everything about the site needs a facelift, modernising and some attention to detail. The food in the bar / restaurant is poor - very bad value for money. The staff don't look as if they give a damn. The toilets and washrooms need upgrading and more regular cleaning than they seem to get. They were always dirty when I used them. The swimming pool is too small for the number of guests particularly at peak holiday time. There is no system to regulate the number of users at any time. We were attracted to Bucklegrove by its proximity to Wookey Hole and Cheddar and the fact it had a swimming pool - something our grandchildren were enthusiastic about.

The pitch was very small and none of the pitches appeared to be the optimum 6m apart (as recommended for fire spread prevention). Although there were two washblocks, the one near us only had two showers and three toilets in mens and ladies - which was heavily used. Toilet paper ran out - there was no sign over the three days that they had been cleaned.

The swimming pool was highly anticipated - and disappointing. There were lots of signs on what NOT to do - to the extent that I wouldn't have been surprised to see one that said "No Swimming"! The access into the pool was awkward - the distance from the pool surround to the step was quite a stretch for any but the totally fit.

The swimming pool changing facilities were basic and again didn't look as though they had been cleaned between our visits.

We bought food from the onsite restaurant - which was tasty and great to see all the menu available as a takeaway.

Camping Cabin was clean and spacious enough for our needs (3 adults, 1 child and a dog). Certainly a step up from our normal tent. Site went very quiet at night, although it was starting to get very busy when we left.

Shower and toilet blocks very clean, but only 5 showers across the two blocks for women. We saw the facilities being cleaned at lunch time, but by late evening a lot of toilet cubicles had run out of paper, so had to remember to take our own.

Very small indoor pool which is not supervised. Under 16s are meant to be accompanied by an adult, but a lot of older children were allowed to go on their own and there were no staff around to enforce the rules (no jumping, running etc), which made the pool a bit hazardous to other users at times.

We chose Bucklegrove as we had stayed previously. Our caravan is quite long compared to some so we’re really pleased that they could accommodate that as some parks put a limit on length. All the hook up access and water were really easy to find and use. The staff in reception were very friendly. We had one evening meal at the restaurant but felt it some dishes were a little costly for what you received , though the food was excellent and again staff were very polite. We used the swimming pool on one occasion which was lovely though I was a little disappointed with the changing facilities, which didn’t provide any privacy if required (separate male/female rooms but inside just benches and hooks , a shower and two toilets) and the floors were not the cleanest.

The park itself was lovely and there were some nice touches like the woodland walk with dinosaurs. It felt safe for the children to walk about to the shop and toilet facilities without needing adult supervision and was one of the reasons we chose to come back. The location is great for local tourist attractions Wookey Hole, Wells,Bath,Glastonbury,Cheddar Gorge and many other places. We easily found local supermarkets but were also able to buy basic items on the site at reasonable prices. We were given a 25% off voucher for Wookey Hole which was an added bonus.

I would throughly recommend Bucklegrove to anyone looking for a well kept and safe site , if I had to recommend anything I would say take flip flops for use in the pool area apart from that a massive thumbs up from my family - I am sure we will be back👍🏻...Read less.

We arrived on site &greeted by a friendly male staff member, we drove onto the camping area; both my wife & myself formed the opinion this was a very poorly maintained area of the site.

It looked very neglected, shabby & not at all what is now expected from customers, the hard standings were not maintained & weeds growing into them, the grass was not cut & maintained neatly; there seemed to be little order to the camping area.

We decided not to stay & move on to another recognised club site, I informed the same male who booked us in that we were leaving; he did not seem to concerned.

I struggle in over 20 years of camping to recall a less maintained, less loved site than this one.

We did not take a look at any other part of the site so cannot comment on other area's; the toilet block was also less than up to standard.

I would suggest the management visit other camp sites to get an overview of what is expected & what other owners are prepared to do in order to make their business appealing for guest to return....Read less.

Having stayed at Bucklegrove last year we were keen to return as for a weekend break it’s not far from home so no long drive. Site was great and pool and bar was as good as before. The only down side was the toilets. There was the same spillage of ‘pink stuff’ on the sinks all weekend and there wee time when the loos were vile. At one point there was only one that either wasn’t full of something or had wee all over the seat. We booked for 7 nights, Friday to Friday. The first issue we came across was there was no milk available to purchase from the shop and we were told there would be none available until Saturday! when you have traveled a few hundred miles to get to your stay at the very least the site should have basics available to buy for the incoming arrivals. Facilties wise, the bar is only open 2 evenings a week and the playground was shut for refurb in June and looked very small. There was no children's entertainment. Yes there was a pool but I don't concider these small number of facilities to qualify for a Holiday Park.

We met really friendly and helpful staff on arrival, who were great. The site was quite quiet, which suited us. On-site security seemed great, with a gentleman regularly doing the rounds to check all was in order. The park was litter-free and had beautiful views, as well as well-kept hedges, shrubs etc. The pitch was a good size and well-maintained. It was a big shame that the play area was out of action, as this was one of the main draws for us. The staff said it was being refurbished, which is great for the future but a bit of a pain when your young children just need somewhere to let off steam before tea! The children did love the pool, though. It was clean and warm, if a tiny bit ‘unloved’ (main problem being a lack of safety cover on one of the overflow vent things, which left an unsafe-looking hole at eye level - a surprise, as everything else was well-maintained). Access to the pool was through two heavy doors with codes, so it felt very safe in terms of little ones. Whilst staying, we enjoyed visiting Wells with its stunning cathedral (the fun clock being a highlight) and Stourhead NT gardens about an hour away. Wells also has lots of places to shop and eat, and a huge green in front of the cathedral where the children ran and played. We got fab chips from a chippy on the main road to Wells in Shepton Mallet, too. We didn’t use the wash facilities, as we had our caravan. If they were anything like the rest of the park, they’d be well looked-after. Overall we had a good stay and would say it is worth a visit....Read less.

We were allocated pitch 203 Strawberry which was probably the minimum size legally acceptable for caravans. However soon after we pitched up a small campervan pitched in 202 and erected a large awning. The wall of the awning was no more than 4 feet away from the side of our van - not ideal to say the least especially when the occupants slept in the awning and snored loudly. As the site was full there was no opportunity to relocate onto another pitch so we had to grin and bear it but in my view this was potentally quite unsafe in the event of a fire on either pitch.

The men's toilets were reasonable but the ladies were untidy on each occasion during our four night stay. The men's lacked locking bolts on most of the cubicle doors - a tent peg had to be taken to correct the deficiency. This was early in the season and surely one should expect this sort of thing to be corrected during the low season.

On a more serious note one of the transparent weatherproof lids protecting the trip switches on the service pod was missing leaving the trips open to the elements - potentially quite dangerous. This was reported and could have been remedied with a plastic bag quite simply but a day later nothing had changed.

We usually choose Caravan Club CL sites which accept a maximum of 5 caravans but chose Bucklegrove as there were facilities to keep our grandson amused who was in a caravan on the neighboring pitch 204 with his parents. As the booking was made by us for both pitches they will be leaving a Tripadvisor review but they were also not impressed by this site.

Needless to say we won't be coming back.

The toilet/shower/cleaning block has been poorly maintained and needs a complete overhaul. Cleaning was not done regularly enough and was not thorough. It was skipped on sunday evening through to monday and as such the ladies ran out of loo roll.

The showers would work intermittently and so we eventually gave up trying.

The locks were broken on 2 of the 4 men's toilet cubicles. As such the operational toilets were ... well ... you can imagine.

There was rusting, leaky pipework and things not properly fitted.

Cobwebs everywhere....Read less.

We stayed in a cabin, good size for small families, which comes with everything you’d need for a little holiday! (Excludes blankets and towels)

Situated next to the cute dinosaur walk which we took to get to the washing up station, toilets and showers.

Short walk to the pool, mostly empty during school term times, really nice, we were in there every day (sometimes twice).

The children’s play area has very little to do in it. But it’s okay.

The restaurant was closed during our stay as it was a quiet time so we can’t comment on that.

We cannot comment on site food as we ate out at the Rodney stoke inn and it was fantastic.

The pitche we were on was of a nice size but did look a bit neglected.

If I were to reccommend a pitch I'd say in the strawberry field esp of travelling with children.

The bad point's.... the toilet blocks are def in need to modernisation. We we're in grove field and the shower head fell off and the shower curtain too short in one so flooded the floor. The following day we went to the other toilet block and sadly very big but shower not very warm.. on the plus side it was powerful. I'd recommend the site def for families as facilites lovely and pool is an added bonus.. for me it was the shower and toilet facilities let it down....Read less.

We stayed in the Tor View field staying in a tent. The field it self has amazing views. It was low season so we could pitch up pretty much anywhere and had the field mostly to our selves!

The staff, on entering were very friendly and as we were staying in a pitch without electricity, they even offered to charge our mobile phones when we had run out.

The facilities were clean and very well kept - we had a hot shower every morning.

It felt very safe and there were security barriers to get in, which you have to have a pin for, but my only concern was that anyone is able to walk in by foot.

There are plenty of water points around for cooking and washing up and freezers to put ice packs in.

You can have BBQ’s aswell which we did the first night for dinner.

We didn’t get round to using the pool but went to Weston super mare for the day instead, which is about 30 mins away by car. There are nice local walks which they can give you at reception.

Overall really enjoyed our stay and plan to camp there again!

Dear Deborah,

Thank you for your feedback and review. We are sorry to learn of your comments, I see from your booking that you booked an all service super pitch, one of our best pitches, with ouotstanding views. You also booked over the Easter bank holiday weekend, when rates do of course increase slightly, although your average nightly rate was very reasonable.

Pitches are certainly not crowded in our Park, maybe you felt it was just extremely busy it being a bank holiday?

We had live music on the Saturday evening, and there were families enjoying the great weather and long weekend.

We hope you will consider returning another time, maybe a quieter period would suit you more.

Thanks again for taking the time to give your feedback.

Upon arrival, fantastic first impressions of camp and staff. However my pitch was over 70% dried mud ( stone like) I asked if any other pitches available ( as all others were of lovely grass) and was advised not with electric, so pitched up anyway however was like camping on stones, very uncomfortable. Apart from that little down side our pitch and utilities on the camp were great, showers could do with updating, however were kept clean. It was extremely hot the Easter weekend, so very disappointed the on site bar/restaurant didn't open until 4pm, so no where to get some shade or an ice cold drink unless we left camp. I would highly recommend opening earlier, especially in school holidays. One other suggestion, we stayed on the Easter Thursday - Monday, and the only entertainment was on a Saturday evening 6-8pm, I would suggest on bank holidays having more live entertainment please, the day time easter bunny and arts & crafts were great for the kids though. Those small factors aside, I would be back again as long as the restaurant opened earlier! Thank you for a great stay....Read less.

the park is nicely situated for access to cheddar and wookey hole (it is part of the WH company)

We were in the log cabins at the top of the field so had the best views - we chose these rather than bringing our tents as we have not had much luck with the weather at easter previously!

the log cabins were more than adequate especially as they were only slightly more expensive than a tent pitch with electric hook up and were complete with everything we could need - (we only needed to brig food, bedding and towels) - we chose to bring our camping chairs and BBQ as we like to sit outside and the supplied wooden

chairs are not as comfortable for long term use.

the bar was useful - and the food was good (they had been caught out by the good weather and had a reduced menu and staff situation over the easter weekend)

the pool is quite small - but was OK for the kids for a splash about.

the only negative is that some groups were quite noisy at night and this was not dealt with. (one group started their outdoor party just after midnight and went on until about 4) - I realize the site cannot pick the clients but these were on well established seasonal pitches and so must have been known to the site....Read less.

We had a lodge with hot tub. We found the accommodation to be very clean, fresh and the bed was possibly the most comfortable I've ever had.

Nice set up & good for money. Staff onsite were very helpful, hard working and had great customer service.

Suggestions - more night lighting up pathways at night. Shop to be open at 8, not 9.40 as it was one day with no apologies. Stood waiting outside in the cold for milk. Could also do with a counter range of local eggs, fresh produce like bacon, bread etc & new papers to order. Maybe a bbq stand as part of the set up would be a nice finish.

Ran out of toilet rolls and not replaced in lodge - so had to buy 9 for the last day. Food was good, but lacked variety and other products likes salads or anything healthy. All fried. If nobody was in the bar it lacked atmosphere. Set up with pool table and getting around to the pool was also a bit odd. Needs reconfiguring.

We were disappointed on arrival as the park was not like the pictures on the pitchup.com website. The area we had been allocated none of the grass had been cut and it was quite long to touch underneath of motorhome and caravans. When we pitched up we found dog shit on our pitch. We asked for this to be removed, we were told it would be but in the three days we were there no one came. No one oversees the park rules so we had dogs running around with no leads, loud music through the night and children in the pool during adult time jumping/ shouting and using balls. Dear Sue,

Thank you for your feedback and review. We are sorry to learn you were disappointed with aspects of your stay, all comments are passed to the Park Manager for consideration.

Our Park Team schedule in grass cutting and keep this mowed accordingly, we are sorry if you found your pitch not as you had expected.

Regarding the dog mess, apologies if this was not cleared away, our Team are usually very proactive in responding to guests queries.

We do adhere to the Park rules, and enforce these where appropriate.

New owners have taken over the Park, within the last two years, and have already spent over half a million pounds improving the infrastructure and facilties.

You're right, the location is fabulous, and we hope you will consider re-visiting in the future.

Thank you again for taking the time to give your feedback.

The location of the park is great - close to Cheddar, Well and Weston. The toilet block was fine, clean and warm. The children enjoyed the play area. Beautiful views and walks from the site.

However the main impression I got was that the site is a little untidy. The roads are all broken and pot-holed, and the caravans that obviously stay on the site all year round have piles of 'stuff' around them (stacked tables and chairs, pallets, one had a fallen-down awning) which just made the whole site appear untidy.

Also a little odd that the pub/restaurant shares the toilets in the swimming pool changing rooms! The floor is wet in there from swimmers and would benefit from having more than one shower, and a shower curtain!

Loved the location, and the staff. However needs some investment and a good tidy up!

Despite our less than glorious pitch right beside the loos and chemical disposal point in the grove, we had a great little stay. The park is a bit tired in places, especially the Grove, with the hardstanding pitch very patchy and weedy (also black grit being brought into the caravan despite shoes off at the door.) Would recommend booking early to get a spot on Strawberry fields, especially as this is nearer the facilities so you can keep an eye on the kids in the small play area. The bar was great, lovely g and t by the woodburner and the kids loved attempting a game of pool. The small swimming pool was great for family fun and was clean. Ladies showers a bit on the chilly side but clean. Hubby always managed to dry his towel on the radiator in the gents though so their heating was clearly working!!! Parking was next to the caravan, the own patio area was in the sun and the little touches were great, a caffetiere ( I love coffee) and homely items on the shelf. It was warm to and had great sofas space for the 5 of us. Staff were helpful and friendly.

My only negative was no changing rooms for swimming so 2 of my children wouldn’t swim, the play area for my toddler was small and muddy. The pool was okay small but fine.

There were a few grass pitches opposite us that looked very uneven so we were pleased we didn’t get one of those. Honestly, overall it was good.

The pitches were level enough and toilets and showers were very clean and well kept.

GOOD points: Was able to enter even after book in and reception had closed.

Facilities were quite very clean and tidy, i.e - showers toilets, no rubbish on site, pools clean and tidy with no water splashed everywhere.

Cheddar is kind of central to many cool and exciting things to do, i.e- karting, Weston, farms and markets, cheddar coves, town centre, and many other site seeing locations, so this site was in the perfect spot.

BAD points: On arrival (around 18:30) we was handed a pack including reception and shop opening times, address, dinosaur trail, and the lodge restaurant menu (all on site). We were so hungry and after pitching up in the rain, we wanted to head to the restaurant.. but we found it closed, after talking with staff, ONLY THEN did they explained that the lodge was closed until the end of February. We felt robbed!! It listed the restaurant on the booking site as a main feature and DID NOT state seasonal opening times. We were told to find a local take out or restaurant, they did name a few but having young children we couldn't have walked there that late and the few takeouts that wasn't too far out, didn't deliver. We had to drive out and find food the first night and then find a local tesco to grab tinned food we could heat up on the gas ring on camp.

The shop was tiny.

The dinosaur trail was not worth the time or hassle, 40 second walk with a few 2 foot dinosaurs planted.

A couple caravans were packed with young friends/couples who stayed out in the hot tubs and were rowdy on the nights, was a little hard to sleep at first but that's expected on cheaper holiday camps.

Didn't go to the children's playground on site but we had a look and it seemed good.

In all i personally think this site would be amazing in the warmer weather when the lodge and all facilities are open.

Im mostly happy that it was quiet with not many people staying there and how clean it was outside, in the toilets and showers and in the swimming pool area.

It was cheap!...Read less.

We keep our website updated with bar and restaurant opening times, along with any live music we have scheduled. We have never had 'shows' at the Park, we are not sure where you may have seen this information? We do have live music, this usually takes place in the Spring, Whitsun and Summer holidays.

The toilet and shower blocks have undergone refurbishment with new roofing, flooring decoration. They are also maintained and cleaned daily, with regular interval checks.

The swimming pool is kept to the recommended temperature of 29 degrees celsius, we are sorry if you felt this was cold.

We wanted somewhere to stay for our last break away before we winterised our motor home and, as many of you will have experienced, finding somewhere still open late in the season is not an easy task!

When we go away for a long weekend we like to go within a 2.5 - 3 hour drive away and so Bucklegrove fit the bill on several levels.

We like to have either a serviced pitch or, at the very least, electrics, and Bucklegrove offered us the option. We went for a serviced pitch and had fresh water, waste water and electrics on our pitch. The chemical waste disposal was quite a distance from our pitch which, in the delightful November weather, was fun, but it was not unreasonable.

The WiFi was pretty impressive and, when we found ourselves holed up inside with the rain lashing down, we were able to stream a film from Netflix and it didn’t buffer.

The washroom facilities were exceptionally clean and they had thought of everything by supplying a bench to store your clothes on as well as a squeegee to use to push all water down to the drain and away from the floor, following your shower. It does look like they are working through and improving the facilities, as the first shower I went into had a pull cord for the light and the level of lighting was quite low and the shower flow was non existent and the shower head looked like it was in need of attention as it was at an odd angle, so, I moved everything across into the next cubicle and was delighted to have instant bright light as soon as I walked in and a good quality pressure from the shower. I had intended to mention the shower that was in need of TLC, but due to the weather, I scurried back to my pitch and then subsequently forgot.

The site itself looks like it has a few facilities that would prove an asset to families, but we did not use them and so I cannot comment, we were disappointed in ourselves for forgetting that there was a pool and had forgotten our swimwear, as, with the wet weather, the pool would have given us somewhere to go. With the play area, pool and onsite restaurant, (only open Fri-Sun out of season), we imagine the this site would get fairly popular in school holidays and main season weekends and I’m not sure I would want to be on site when it was full.

The pitches are a reasonable size and they have done an excellent job of levelling them, despite the gentle sloping of the ground and it is small things like this that make the campers life so much easier, when wheel chocks/ramps are not needed. We stayed in Strawberry Field but took a walk around the site and saw the alternative hard standing pitches at The Grove, we feel that the two areas don’t compare and that maybe The Grove could do with some attention to make it a more attractive area, as it felt very squashed in and some pitches in quite undesirable locations, (maybe some small hedging to break up the pitches and add some colour and visual interest to quite a bland field, but that is our own preference and this area may be a big appeal to larger groups going away together?). There is a small woodland walk that has been adorned with dinosaurs hidden in the vegetation, this was a nice place to walk the dog as it was protected slightly from the weather and the path was covered in mulch etc, so was less muddy underfoot. Our dog, Bentley, found the dinosaurs alarming on his first walk, but, by the end he was going up to them to show how brave he was!

Finally, and by no means the least impressive, the staff and the booking process. We booked through Pitchup and received a confirmation email but we then received a follow up email from Bucklegrove giving us some detailed information on the best route in to the site, due to some roadworks and diversions, it was extremely helpful and informative. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady who was friendly and gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble. Although we didn’t use it, the camp shop looked well stocked with a variety of merchandise. The reception was adorned with decor from Halloween which showed their sense of fun and we can imagine that any children who had been on site would have had a great time. When we left the site, there had been a power failure, probably due to the roadworks, and so the security barrier would not lift, this meant that the wardens had to come out in the pouring rain and physically unscrew and remove the barrier so that we could exit....which they did with a smile on their faces.

Firstly, the staff were all very good, helpful and polite, There were a few times when we had to go to reception to ask questions and the guy in there was very helpful each time. We went to the bar a few times and the staff in there were also nice and polite,

When we visited, there was a cold snap in the area which caused a ground frost to be present in the mornings.

On our first day we went to the pool. The pool water was warm but the building was cold so we didn't stay there too long as my children were getting cold.

That evening we went to the bat as there was pumpkin carving and other Halloween events going off. Again, the staff were really good with the children and couldn't fault them at all. The room though could have done with being a few degrees warmer. We ended up putting our coats on, and on looking around, other's had their coats on also. There was a log burner in the corner but not lit.

My children ended up eating in the bar as time was getting on (we ate back in the caravan). I personally thought the price of food was extortionate for what it was. £6+ for a child's pizza (about 5" diameter). Bar prices though were very reasonable - so well done Bucklegrove for not following the pattern of other campsites.

A few days later we used the pool again. This time the building was warm, along with the warm water, this made it a much more pleasurable experience - we ended up staying their much longer this time.

We went to the bar again that night, I tried all the radiators and they were just warm, but, the building was warm enough to take our coats off this time. There was a table set up in the corner with" colouring-in" laid out for the children which was a nice touch. My children played pool (£1 a game) but we did not eat there this time.

The only other point I would like to make is there was not any heating in the toilet block either throughout our whole stay. The toilet block was not freezing, and the showers were warm, it was just a bit chilly after the shower getting dressed and when visiting the toilets. The toilet block was clean, but quite dated.

Yes we would return, but not this late in the season....Read less.

Playground facilities were rather limited. Even a couple of swings would have been an improvement.

Although access to Wi-fi/superfast Broadband is clearly advertised on your website, in reality it was virtually impossible to get even a barely acceptable connection. Unfortunately, as mobile phone connection is very patchy in the countryside (depending on one's network supplier), this meant that it was almost impossible to be in contact with the "outside world". As we were holidaying with our 2 young grandsons for the first time, it was important to be able to keep in contact with their parents, which we thought we would be able to do via Facetime utilising the promised "superfast Broadband".

Otherwise, we were more than happy with the accommodation and the site in general, which we chose specifically for the convenience of visiting Wookey Hole nearby, where we spent a very rewarding day....Read less.

Useful shop on site and facilities such as pool and games room and restaurant. Washrooms could have been a bit cleaner. The swimming pool cleanliness needs improving and regular checks to keep it clean from mud and grass. Toilet and shower facilities attached to the pool need inmoroving too. Don’t think it helps the restaurant/pub use the same toilet facilities as the swimming pool. Should have separate toilets.

Was a lovely site, but we stayed in The Grove part of the site & in all honesty, we didn't find it great.

No dog walking field. We were directed to a gate behind a static caravan, which took us out onto a lane, which is used for traffic. Only found 1 dog bin & that was situated right outside the washing up area. Not pleasant. Because of these reasons, we were very disappointed that we had paid £12 for our 2 dogs.

I booked this campsite about a month or two before the arrival date. Researched it, had good reviews, had a swimming pool, a pub and restaurant. It was also close to Wells, wookey and Cheddar, so quite central. But the main reason we had booked this campsite was because of the bar and restaurant. When we had arrived, we were greeted by a gentleman who was very nice and informative. But he had informed us that the pub was actually closed the nights we were staying. As you can imagine, we were gutted, as that was the main reason we chose this place. So we googled to see the nearest places to go for a drink and some food, which was 0.5miles or 0.9 miles the other way. Which isn't far really, but the roads have no pavements and is a very main and dangerous road to walk. The buses run pass the campsite, and there's a bus stop on both sides of the road. But unfortunatly, one way the buses stopped at 17:45 and the other 20:10. So as a young couple we walked the road, down to the nearest pub for food and some drinks, we ended up leaving around 7:30 as it was getting dark, and the road was bad enough in the daylight, so we decided not to risk it. I'd say its okay for families who aim to be home at an earlish time, they could catch the bus or drive, but this time of year, it's not recommended unless you are looking for a very quite time. Overall a lovely campsite, but unfortunately we had to leave a night early as it was boring without any entertainment or anywhere to go....Read less.

I cannot comment on the children's facilities as we didn't have any. Originally we were directed to a pitch at the top of the site which was totally unsuitable for a large twin axle caravan. The member of staff came up as we were setting up to see if we were ok. We said we could manage however we were under the impression that we had booked a fully serviced site (my mistake). He immediately said he did have two available by reception and we could go there if we wanted. We gratefully accepted his offer and moved. We fully expected to pay extra for this but he said it was ok. The new pitch was very good and everything nearby. The swimming pool was great and we did visit on 2 occasions. The shower block/toilets were good and very clean. Our waste water pipes were not long enough and we asked at Reception if they sold them, they didn't but the young lady kindly gave us the postcode of a supplier at nearby Axbridge where we could purchase them. We could not fault the staff in anyway and they were always cheerful and helpful. We visited Burnham on Sea, Frome, Weston Super Mare and Wells, all within easy reach. Brilliant! This site was recommended by two of my friends who have static caravans on the site. They are always saying how nice it is so we thought we would give it a go. We would definitely go back next year, probably at the same time of the year as the children are back in school and we prefer the quiet. I've camped all over the SW this summer and am well aware that the heat and sun have not been kind to grass pitches. However, the site still looks tired and not very well cared for, with weeds all over and 'hardstandings' for cars being unnoticeable at first glance due to being grown over. The dinosaur models on the trail are very tired looking, with some of them damaged.

The Reception team were very friendly dealing with me and others, and they happily accommodated my request to change pitch. My daughter and I ate in the on-site restaurant and spent many hours in the pool - she loved it! The pool changing area/toilets are a little run down though, and we preferred to walk through the site in our costumes and use the main block, which was a higher standard.

The site is off a main road and a handy sign saying 'next turning' is hidden behind the advertising signage, which is a bit dangerous! I would not advise leaving the site and going for a walk from the main entrance, but the reception area has details of how to leave on foot via a quieter route.

I think the site is a little overpriced for what it is, but we shall probably be back as my girls would love it and the on-site restaurant did great food....Read less.

We camped for a long weekend with our 2 year old daughter in September. The park was easy to find, very clean and well maintained. I would say it's an ideal place for mature couples or those seeking a quiet retreat. However for families with small children or younger adults there was very little to do and there was very little atmosphere. It certainly wasn't the kind of campsite where you would spend a long evening outside the tent drinking and chatting. The place was silent by 9pm!...Read less.

Dear Vicky,

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are glad you liked the site, but sorry to learn you found it a quiet. When you visited it was just out of the main summer holiday period, when we were very busy and it was a little more livelier. We tend not to have entertainment out of season, when the Park is less busy.

We hope you'll be able to visit us again in the future, please keep an eye open for events on our website www.bucklegrove.co.uk

This site has been taken over by Wookey Hole and they are clearly trying to bring site up to date. Fabulous location with a new park entrance and some holiday lodges but I have a caravan and that part of the site is not up to scratch at all. Ankle deep grass, hedges wild and uncut between each pitch so you get snagged every time the water needs changing. Rough and uneven roads to touring section. Although it's advertised as dog friendly if like me your dog needs actual exercise you will have to brave the Somerset roads!! . I found one dog bin on site. If the revamping carries on this could be a great site. My sister was repeatedly berated by the chef on site for ordering a well done steak! And I thought the addition of a machine in the gents toilet selling condoms and viagra was classy, real classy....Read less.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your review and feedback.

We are lucky to have such a beautiful location with outstanding views, we are glad you enjoyed it.

There are restricted areas for dogs, however our friendly reception team can advise of local walks suitabel for dog walking.

The maintenance team are on site regularly, keeping the grass and hedgerows tidy and well-kept. This is an on-going area of work, and there are certain times when hedgrows have to be left regarding protecting the natural environment for wildlife.

Thanks again for taking the time to give your feedback, we really do appreciate it to further improve our facilities and services to guests....Read less.

The park has great facilities on offer but bar prices are expensive. What really lets the site down is the general standard of the park. Grass and hedge cutting is undertaken regularly, ensuring the Park is kept tidy and maintained, we are sorry if you felt this was not the case.

The fantastic views from our Park our truly outstanding, these can be seen from various aspects of the site.

Me and my partner stayed here for one night at the start of September. We were on the last leg home from a trip in our campervan around the south coast, and thought we should stop off in Cheddar. I searched for somewhere to stay and booked here after reading good reviews. We were not disappointed, the views from the site were incredible and a helpful staff member booked us in and told us where our spot was. We were very pleased to find the pool was heated and indoors too! Such a bonus for a campsite!! We did stay on a week day so sadly the restaraunt was not open, you can drive into town but being in a camper we prefer to set up camp and not have to pack everything away to go find food. I would suggest a small takeaway menu in the week and more variety in the on site shop, to solve this only problem. But overall perfect stop over and we will go back there if we go to cheddar again....Read less.

We were very disappointed with the restaurant/take away options. We are a vegetarian family and although there was a vegetarian option on the restaurant menu there was not any options on the takeaway menu. The restaurant was always full and we were told we would have a minimum of an hour wait just for a table. We then thought we would get a takeaway but there was a 45 min wait on this and when we asked about any vegetarian options they simply replied 'no'. They were not helpful and were not up to discussing the menu. Seeing this was all on our first night there we did not bother to go in again and spent our money elsewhere....Read less.

We arrived on a bank holiday Saturday and the Tor View field was very busy and space for a group of families limited, it steadily emptied out during the next few days. The field has nice views but few level pitches, the level bottom end is very close to the busy A371. The toilet and other facilities are in the more formal Holiday Park (not our cup of tea, but if you are into static caravans and electric hook-up touring pitches, I'm sure you would like it). The on-site bar and swimming pool were useful on the very wet Sunday with two bored small children. On the whole, on-site behaviour was good with drivers recognising there were a lot of children about (apart from one **** who thought it very entertaining to skid around on the wet grasses, thankfully the site manager intervened and he left the next morning). The site staff were good and friendly, the facilities clean and rubbish cleared away daily. The only negative was the fact it is very expensive on the Tor View field (can't comment on costs for the serviced pitches), at £37 a night, we have stayed in better for significantly less....Read less.

The park is dated and in need of some major modernisation. This wouldn’t have bothered us if the facilities had been clean and the touring fields looked after and maintained. The shower block in The Grove field was filthy dirty and resembled public toilets. The larger block nearer reception was marginally better but still in need of a good clean. The Grove field where we were allocated a pitch was not a pleasant environment and looked like a municipal playing field not relaxing or inviting and I certainly not somewhere I would want to sit out in my deck chair. After exploring the rest of the park and seeing that it was no better we decided not to stay and drove home. Very disappointing especially as the photos on the website made it look a lot better. Thank you for your feedback, but what a shame to read your comments. Our Housekeeping Team work tirelessly to keep the Park clean, this includes regular checks on toilet and shower blocks. There are of course times when there is a cross-over and if the weather is changeable this can cause wet floors and mud.

We had visited Bucklegrove a few years ago and were looking forward to returning, however we were disappointed this time, the park seems to have more seasonal pitches with caravans than it does pitches for other visitors, more static caravans have been put in in the camping area and we were pitched next to one which had a hot tub which was left on a wuring all night, quite annoying. The pitches aren't very big either (even the comfort pitch.) The pitches are terraced and once your tent and car on pitch doesn't leave much room to sit out. The comfort pitch had its own water tap and electric hook up and gravel parking space but the pitch size wasn't much bigger than our friends standard pitch.

I think this site is more suited to caravans which don't need as bigger pitch as a family tent. Although one of the hard standing pitches was very close to the door to the male toilets which I wouldn't have been happy being there.

If you're after a static caravan they looked nice, although close together and some had hot tubs. The pool/s were very small and busy and you had to accompany under 16's which is bit daft for our 15year old swimmer.

The site however was clean and tidy and we didn't have to queue for showers or toilets. We didn't use the shop or bar so can't comment on those.

The location is great for exploring the local area, just a short drive to Cheddar, Wells, Glastonbury etc.

We did think it was also expensive.

It’s a shame the lodge doesn’t open for breakfast - bacon sandwiches on a rainy day would have gone down a storm. The camping field had way better views than the superpitches with electric hook up which was a bit disappointing. Had a lovely visit to the campsite, stayed in tent in the field. Staff were helpful and friendly when needed. Has an onsite Lodge providing good bar food and drinks. Did not visit the pool as was pretty much full with children most of the time as expected. However, the facilities use for the pool and lodge during the time of pool use became messy and very wet under foot which is not suitable for those just using the lodge which the pool is attached to. Labelling of water would be helpful as there were no indications of what was ok for use for drinking water. There was a tap on the entrance to field and was not labelled for drinking water, and not labels on the waste disposal area and taps there. These may seem minor but you need to know what is suitable for drinking. Laundry facilities good, as was wash up area. Due to size of site recommend they could expand their personal washing facilities as main block only has 3 showers which is probably not enough for size of site especially when field is full.

We stayed 4 nights during the busy summer holidays, we booked online which was very simple. We had a great time, the bar and pool were great, little shop had most items you'd need.. the only things I'd say niggled me but isn't really an issue, the wasps were everywhere, mainly due to some sort of wasp traps but the gaps were huge so wasps could climb out again.. maybe they weren't traps, so in that case praps shouldn't be put near busy bar area. also grass was pretty non existent on the pitches I spose due to busyness quite annoying when mud gets everywhere.
