I recently stayed at the park with my wife and our 2 year old grand son. The amenities were very clean and well kept. The pitch was ok however we did have to put our awning on the grass as the actual pitch was quite small so anyone else visiting i would recommend taking a plastic sheet to put under any awning carpet . The electric kept tripping at the post where it was plugged in which was a bit annoying and not the van i believe as we have not experienced this before on other parks but that said it was not a major issue and should not detract from what was an enjoyable stay which we all enjoyed. The park was ok and my grandson enjoyed the activities on it. It is a very secure site with a coded barrier which worked very well, all in all a very good site despite the couple of niggles and would recommend it based on the facilities, price and cleanliness, there are numerous places of interest in the surrounding area which was good....Read less.

First time Glamping and this site was amazing, 6 lodges in their own wooded area with communal fire pit n bbq plus an indoor hot tub. This is Glamping in style. Lodges are as advertised on site, no hidden extras. Dog friendly lodge has an enclosed deck area so the dogs are safe if the lodge door is open, there is a separate dog walk wooded area n waste bin plus a lovely wood right next to site to explore. Two local pubs within 10-15 mins walk ( uphill on way there), local co-op 5mins drive and the most amazing hot food/ bacon butty van based at Codnor resivoir if you didn't want to cook breakfast., again only 5 mins drive. My husband and I are new to motorhoming and although we have been to other rallies prior to the Rimor Owner's Club rally held at Riddings Wood, we have always been in the middle of a field previously, relying on our solar panel and leisure battery for power and our Aquamaster to haul water. Piped water and EHU was a novel experience for us. The staff at the campsite helped us get set up when we arrived and helped us with an issue we had which was outwith anything to do with the campsite or the rally, which was very kind of them.

Some of the other campers spoiled things a bit by not cleaning up after themselves, but the staff were excellent and their attention to us and the site in general was great....Read less.

First impression of the campsite, its a very nice setting, rural, good area for kids to play!! Seemed very popular, was very busy for the two nights we stayed. Considering the campsite does get very busy it only had 2 showers for ladies & 2 for men!!! ( Not enough). Three of the toilets in the ladies were out of order, hairdryers out of order, one of the hand soap dispensers was empty, both was empty in the men's. There was a mop & bucket to wipe the cubicle once finished showering, but the mop was dirty & dirty water in the bucket.( I suggest the mop gets changed through the day & to keep disinfectant water in the bucket, also to be changed throughout the day!!) If the situation with the showers/toilets was amended, this would be a brilliant campsite....Read less.

We stayed for a 3 night camping experience with a large group of friends. Loved the stay and weather was fantastic that weekend! Easy to book and staff friendly on arrival. Campsite felt safe. Disappointed by the up hill hike to the toilet block from the tent no electric hook up spot...... which I have to be honest when desperate I did drive a few times, which is not always safe when kids are enjoying themselves! I did not shower but friends that did were disappointmented with the cleanliness of the showers, but the site was v busy that weekend! Some toilets did become out of order too, but we discovered that was due to inconsiderate campers flushing wild down the toilets! We went walking to condor castle on one of the days, which was fab! Stopping off at the thack for a pint.... although was disappointed to find (we were starving) that food was not served all day and they had run out of made up cobs (the staff commented that they had been busy and a lot of people had visited the pub from the site) so it might be worth considering that when advertising a pub that the times for food are also displayed! However this campsite was in lovely surrounding woods tht the kids loved, and found a rope swing to entertain themselves! With better toilets and maybe toilets in lower field this site would be fabulous....Read less.

Upon arriving, checking in and setting up was very easy however I was questioned about my booking. Having emailed back and forth and been on the phone, I was assured that my booking for the correct amount of people. however, despite coming with one less person we were stopped and questioned about the booking as they did not believe I had paid for us all. Having shown them my invoice and conversation with Tracey it appeared that they still did not believe me and was told to "leave it with them" - overall, not appearing to want to believe me.

We did pay for an electrical site but we chose not to use one as we decided to pitch up at the far end just to ensure we would not disturb the surrounding families. This is a benefit of the site as it is large enough to have your own space.

Very impressed with the wash facilities. They were always very clean and warm.

One thing we were disappointed by was the lack of open pubs or places to eat. We wanted to be able to go out on walks and find a place to eat and have a Drink. Having seen a poster for a local pub in the wash room with a menu we were excited to check it out. Once arriving we find that the kitchen is only open three days a week so we set out to find somewhere else. We visited 6 other pubs but found that they were either closed (despite some of them saying they were open online) and some that were open and said outside that they served food didnt actually once you went in and asked for a menu. This is not the fault of the campsite at all, however next time we would not book again here due to the lack of open, local places to eat which are in walking distance.

On arriving at the park (bank holiday weekend) the park was already starting to get full and people where rather packed in closely. We were put on the bottom pitches near the park as we had children and all the tents were pitched up on a slope (which was not ideal). Every other pitch had a bench table but you had to get there early to be able to get one!! The toilets and showers (ladies) weren't to bad to start off with, though there was only 2 showers and was told by my partner that there was 2 showers in the men's block but 1 was out of order (and was for the whole 3 days we were there). On the Friday evening I went to wash up and there was only 2 washing up sinks and 1 was blocked. The on-site warden was informed but couldn't unblock it as he didn't have any tools!! One of the campers managed to unblock it. On the Saturday afternoon 4 out of the 8 ladies toilets were blocked and they were down to 1 shower as well. Lucky for the wardens there was a camper that managed to unblock the toilets as well. The park needs some improving , which they said they are doing in the winter so would go back next year for a weekend to see if it's improved....Read less.

have visited the site a couple of times before. second visit we lost our pitch to someone while out exploring the area in our camper van. got moved to another pitch, but no wi fi there.

this visit the camping area of the site was packed and noisy, too many people crammed into one area and not enough shower facilities for everyone. after the weekend the site calmed down and emptied quite a bit and was much more comfortable.

our pitch was close to the path that led to the showers/wash up area etc. this path was constantly used by children hurtling down it on scooters and bikes which was dangerous as they skidded into the path of oncoming traffic and also were ending up on top of parked vehicles and caravans

on our last night new neighbours arrived and did not set up caravan until very late and were still noisily setting up airbeds at 1.30am. could not sleep that night....Read less.

Upon arriving late on the Friday evening we found the site very over booked. However, following discussion with the staff we were able to find a more suitable pitch for both ourselves and our friends for the weekend. Unfortunately it would appear the previous owners had over booked the site and the new owners were trying very hard to honour all customer bookings, this meant that many tents were very close together. It also meant that the one shower block for the whole site, although very clean, was always very busy and the men only had one working shower. Having said that we had a very enjoyable weekend at Riddings Wood (the weather certainly helped) and the children loved the play park. Used sanitary pads on the floor in the combined toilet & shower area (seriously... a woman had put it next to the bin, not inside the bin!! Some women are just an embarrassment!), a mop bucket left full of dirty water, toilet blocked with a pile of wet dirty tissue paper on the floor next to the toilet. I couldn't understand why they were in this state early in the morning, when 2 members of park staff were just outside, monitoring people putting their waste in the bins?! Why not close the shower block for 10 mins to give it a quick clean? I understand it's difficult to continuously maintain when the campsite is in its busiest period, and unfortunately some people just have no respect for your facilities which is a great shame. There was also a serious issue with the drains... you could literally taste the smell, and it wasn't even particularly hot when we stayed. I think they just need a good clean. Overall though, I would consider staying here again....Read less.

Not a problem but needs to clearly state this on the details. We asked at reception and was told to buy them a B & M and then another lodge asked and was given some?

Lovely friendly campsite. The staff are warm and welcoming and will go that extra mile to help you if needed. We camped next to the children's play area which they both loved. The lady on reception greeted me by name as she was expecting me as our friends had already checked in. I was given all the information I needed and told where to pitch. The field was on a slope but I was prepared for this. We had a pitch right in front of the kids play park which was perfect for my daughter (11) and nephew (7). It was great in the evening when all the parents brought there children down it had a real community feel to it.

The toilet block was warm and clean in fact I witnessed it being cleaned at least 3 times day.

My daughter loved popping into the office for sweets. It would be nice if they stocked other basics like milk and bread.

Our first night and last night were wonderful, however due to camping on tje weekend we felt the friday to sunday nights were overbooked on the electric pitches. People were being allowed to pitch in large groups. Someone pitched their tent about 2 metres from ours and their sitting area beside our bedroom. This really spoilt our time away. Management wouldnt ask them to move despite that it was way closer than 6m fire safety because it would cause hassle but offered us to move.... So we had to take down our tent and move to a non electric part of the site. It was really disappointing.

However management were helpful with everything else. Showers broke whilst we were there and toilets were nice but not kept very clean over the busy weekend.

I chose this park as the location was perfect and the space, toilets and playground all looked to be excellent. However before I arrived I read through reviews online and quickly became clued up on some common issues that occur on this campsite.

Upon arriving I witnessed 3 separate parties complaining about space issues surrounding their pitch (including an excess of cars surrounding each tent).

Although I had booked an electric pitch, I asked the lady who booked us in if going to a none electric pitch would be quieter and prevent us feeling crammed in. She said this would definitely be the case as it was cery over full right now! I was not offered a refund for the difference in price.

We went to find a pitch (there was a bit of an anywhere you like rule here) and got set up but we saw how close tents were surrounding the electric points and we were glad of our decision. Riddings need to take less bookings for electric points or increase how many pitches with electric there are! This place is stunning with the most superior toilets I've seen (albeit it took me a mile to get there, up hill due to the change in pitch!) and there really was a lovely park for kids! But the focus seemed to be on making as much money as possible and not on customer satisfaction!

Additionally I feel a better effort needs to be made with the bottom none electric field as it was not well maintained and is essentially just weeds instead of grass and no thought to where cars will drive or where pitches would be set up.

Also a £1 for a shower is another sure sign of money making.

Overall, a nice place with a lot of potential but also so frustrating to see how little they cared about clients versus how much they cared about income....Read less.

Arrived at site with camper van and was sent to a pitch which was very unsuitable. Pitch 11. First of all the smell was atrocious which was presumably coming from the toilet block. Secondly the electric hook up point was not working and it wasn't until a person parked next to us said that it hadn't been working for weeks. I went to reception and was told by the woman that she was very sorry but had only been working there a week. She very kindly moved us to another pitch which was a lot better and definitely no smell.

The toilet/shower block was in a very bad state. No soap in the dispensers, toilet tissue on the floor and no mirrors on one side where the sinks were situated. The two showers were dirty and on top of the fee paid for the pitch you were expected to pay another £1 for a shower. Apparently the mens shower/toilet area was worse and very unclean.

The site was about 80 per cent full but I do not feel that this was an excuse for poor and dirty facilities. We will not be visiting this site again but maybe if less full it could of been better....Read less.

The pitch we were allocated is not level, in fact many of them are not level by a good margin. Premium pitches are level, but there aren't many of them. This was not obvious from the website and gallery. The new staff had only been there a week and were very helpful and pleasant. The washrooms constantly had standing water in the middle of the mens and were not cleaned from the point we arrived around lunchtime on the Saturday, to the point we left on Sunday morning. The campers generally don't follow any form of Campsite etiquette and tramp across pitches in the most direct line to the toilets and bins. The one way system is largely unobserved and cars travelled through the site and between tents at potentially dangerous speeds. The local village has two pubs. One was closed (The Seven Stars) and the other (The Thack), despite advertising 'Food Served Daily' decided that the cook couldn't take an order for lunch (2x Jacket Spuds, nothing complex) at 1:45pm because she had just had an order for 10 people and had better things to do that afternoon. No flexibility, no warm welcome and not much interest. Overall we were really impressed with our stay. Staff super friendly and helpful and showed us where we could pitch up. Very professional looking site, much nicer than a lot of camp sites we've been to - large toilet and shower facilities. Also really helpful that there was a separate dog walking area for our three dogs. Large campsite which was very busy at the time of visit. Can't review children's facilities as we don't have kids, but from a distance the play equipment seemed popular. Only real down side if we were being picky was the showers only worked with old style pound coins - but not an issue really as staff swapped coins at reception. I'm sure this will be something they'll improve in the future though. Thanks for a nice visit. Definitely recommend!...Read less.

We spent two nights at Riddings Wood in one of their newly-opened lodges. It was spotlessly clean with every facility you could want, and having its own shower room was the icing on the cake. Only criticism is that there ought to be a few hooks on one of the walls to hang clothes.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

On our first afternoon we had a lovely walk through the nearby wood but, unfortunately, the weather then turned wet so we only managed a visit to Tesco in Alfreton! The TV in the lodge was a godsend in the circumstances.

Would highly recommend Riddings Wood and it was good value for money....Read less.

A nice looking site but hardstandings are not level. Showers cost £1 for 10 minutes which was not obvious on website and seemed extortionate considering the cost of the site fees. Not enough clothing hooks in toilet block. And only 2 showers in each of gents and ladies seems a low number for the size of the site. Take your own plugs for the wash basins unless you prefer to keep the water running.

The staff were new and were on a steep learning curve, however what they lacked in experience they more than made up for in helpfulness and good humour.

The campsite is set out in the Derbyshire countryside on the top of hill with hard pitches towards the top and soft pitches down the bottom. We received a friendly greeting and allocated a pitch towards the bottom of the hill near the playground. Access to the pitch was awkward on the dirt track and grass due to the rain and downhill slope, this also posed a few issues when pitching the tent as beds and furniture slipped, pots were not level on the stoves.

The area was clean and well spaced out, the shower block was clean and showers powerful (take lots of old pound coins), easy access to chemical drain and fresh water. Children's play area kept our kids occupied all day.

Close proximity to Co-op and Tesco, 2 country pubs within 5 minutes walk, woodlands path surrounding the site for walk and exploring.

Note for caravans: a few people struggled up the hill when leaving on the grit driveways - a few front wheel spins were going on.

Recommend the site and would return, although levelling the steep pitches wouldn't go a miss....Read less.

Good points: it was easy to get to, and you could access the site from 1130am. The views are stunning and local facilities are all within a short walking distance. The local pub (Moulders Arms) does an amazing Sunday lunch at a reasonable price.

Bad points: states that it is on a slight incline - unless you are on one of the serviced pitches at the top, this is not technically true - the slope was very steep for those that were in tents. The showers cost £1 (old coins not the new ones) - the box for this is OUTSIDE the showers and your time starts as soon as you have put your money in. On top of this, there are only 2 showers in each wash area - just not enough for the number of people there.

Over 75 pitches - all of which were occupied on our Bank Holiday visit - and only 2 showers in mens toilets and 2 in the ladies toilets. Showers ran hot and cold and getting dried on a wet floor was impossible with small children. £1.00 for 10 minutes was the most I have ever had to pay at a campsite.

Campsite rule of "Dogs always on leads" were ignored and we suffered dog fouling next to the childrens play area. As a dog owner it was frustrating that some owners just dont have any consideration.

Only other gripe was that all the electric hook-up camping pitches were on a slope so be prepared as the photos are alittle deceptive....Read less.

Not a good start, on arrival, our allocated pitch was occupied by somebody else. Although pretty surroundings, this site is on the side of a hill making life difficult.

The facilities on this site are not adequate for the amount of pitches. Only two showers in the ladies, which a £1 charge for 10 minutes is made. This is not mentioned on the website. Only two sinks in the pot washing area.

The electrical hook up points are too far away from some of the pitches.

The toilet/shower block is of wood construction and although new, is already started to look grubby.

There was no evidence of cleaning over the weekend we stayed, a mop was provided to mop the shower area over, this was black with dirt when we arrived and was in the same condition when we left.

Overall, I feel the site owner is trying to run before he/she can walk. Maybe it would have been a good idea to spend some money on getting the facilities up to scratch for the existing pitches before building luxury cabins.

I definitely feel we paid far too much for the facilities offered and for the location of the site....Read less.

While the site was clean, and the toilet facilities were clean and warm, we camped with electric hook up, these pitches are crowded and on a steep incline. We did not have space to erect our tent awning as the pitches are small, the electricity continually 'tripped out' for the first 2 days.

There are insufficient toilet facilities for the number of pitches, 2 showers in the ladies and mens toilets for over 70 units is woefully poor. The shower was either freezing cold or scalding hot. on several evenings there was no toilet paper in several cubicles.

Disappointing that there are no recycling bins on site, all glass, tins, cardboard etc are going into the landfill - not very environmentally friendly!

Where the grass had been mown it would be better if this were collected as we spent the whole weekend sweeping it out of the tent....Read less.

The site is on a steep hillside, with far too many kerbs. For a campsite which caters for tents as well as tourers, the 4 showers just aren't enough - and the £1 charged per shower isn't mentioned on the site's website. Andy and shell were very accommodating and went out of there way they were very helpful and even making sure we were happy during our stay there I think there an asset to the site and because of them I would return, the current site manager however has a lot to learn about campers and needs to understand when you pay for a site with electric you don't want to waste half your stay without it. We I'd like to start with saying we stayed here last year and found the site perfect in every way so we came again last weekend

We arrived to a friendly warden who pointed us in the right direction of our pitch.

The main problem for us with the site was the grass it has obviously been left long then mown down but the grass was not collected leaving lots of loose grass it was everywhere

In the caravan, in the car, in the toilets and showers which was not anywhere neer as clean as the last time we stayed. Now I understand it was very busy and the mess travels with traffic in and out the toilet block but I visited numerous times through the day and it was just as bad every time I went ,there was also lots of kids playing in and out the toilets, now I have my own young kids so by no means am I moaning about kids playing.but we wouldn't dream of letting them play in the toilets or make mess in site facilities.

The play park is fantastic our kids absolutely loved that and other than the above we still like the site just perhaps a few changes need to be made

The site did not reflect the description on Cool Camping. It was relatively urban. It bordered Riddings Wood which is quite small but we passed through housing almost continually once we had left the motorway and the view was across housing. The trees sheltered it from most views thankfully. It was not cheap for this time of year yet campers were expected to pay another £1 every time they wanted to shower. At those pitch charges the showers should have been free. There were no washroom cubicles to give you an alternative means of washing so most campers felt obliged to pay out for a shower. The pitches were hard standing but they were far from those standards found in the majority of park these days. The hard standing was not level and in some places distinctly sloping. The gravel had not been renewed for some time and was full of weeds. There were workman on the site building Glamping pods. They chose to burn their rubbish at the edge of the camp site. This fire smouldered for the length of our stay. The rubbish included cushionfloor scraps that gave off an obnoxious smell. The breeze was across the campsite so no one could escape this smell....Read less.

Recently stayed at Riddings Wood site on pitch number 6 which we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Only 1 small issue was that our pitch was a fully serviced pitch however due to the gradient between pitch 5 and 6, and the service point between 5 and 6 meant that we could not use the grey waste facility because of the incline the the grey waste and my caravan, luckily I had packed my waste water hog. This is not a complaint from me but I'm sure it would be by some other users.

A fantastic site with fantastic management...Read less.

Pick this site as it was close to friends. So didn't really check out the facilities that were on offer and did not expect a lot due to its urban location.

But we were really shocked at the facilities on offer at the site when we arrived, from the booking in procedures, site layout, cleanliness, facilities and the security it was fantastic.

The location although urban on the approach once on site you could have been in the middle of anywhere it was so peacefull even the main line track close bye didn't spoil it.

We would definitely recommend the site although we did not use the children's facilities they looked brand new.

Great sight well done....Read less.

Really nice campsite, very well maintained and freindly and helpful staff. There is a play area for children and dog walking area and local woodland walk. We really enjoyed it and would go again. Our constructive feedback is that it would benefit from an extra drinking water tap lower down on the site as its a long way to walk to the one at the top, same for the waste.could also benefit with a few more showers, there are plently of toilets, but only 2 showers each, not a problem when we went but imagine it could get busy in the summer....Read less.

We had a great time at the site, the owners were amazingingly helpful and friendly. The site is clean and well cared for, the new washrooms are lovely. Only pin t for me is we visitited during autumn half term so site was quite quiet but I can imagine 2 showers in the gents and (I guess) the same in the ladies would be pretty busy for 100+ pitches during the summer. Remember to take some £1 coins too as the showers are £1 for 10 mins. There is loads to see and do in the local area so everyone should find something to keep them happy....Read less.

I would like to congratulate you on your staff who were very helpful & very friendly & made you feel at home.

They are a real asset to your Park.

Our pitch was plenty big enough with water, drainage in a beautiful setting of trees & lovely views.

Could do with more showers & privacy cubicles for washbasins especially at busy times.

We are a Motorhome so we had to rely on public transport which the stop was a short walk from the park.

We went on the bus to Alfreton & Nottingham which runs hourly.

We stayed here as travelled a long way to part exchange our caravan with a motorhome. The site was recommended to us by the local dealers and they weren't wrong. It has one of the easiest arrival areas I've ever come across and everything on site is brand new. The shower/toilet block was also brand new, well heated and very clean. We didn't use the showers as we showered in our MH and I know some people that have reviewed the site, disagree with the £1 charge for them (I think it was £1 for 10 mins). I would not let it put you off, as I think the niceness of the site more than makes up for it. The wardens were lovely and very helpful. Would definitely stay here again if we are ever up that way....Read less.
