My wife and I had a wonderful time in the lodge at Riddings Wood. The managers, Deb & Steve, gave us a warm, cheerful and friendly welcome on our arrival and continued to be helpful, accomodating and bent over backwards to ensure everything was just perfect during our stay. The lodge itself was new and scrupulously clean, the bed was extremely comfortable and the tea, coffee and milk was replaced whenever we needed more. The hot tub lodge was a fantastic extra included in the cost and was cleaned at least 3 times a day! We absolutely loved the place and will definitely recommend it and hopefully be back. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Riddings Wood lodges, you're all doing a wonderful job :)...Read less.

My friends rented the lodges with their families, while a couple of us stayed in tents just down the hill. We were all able to hang out together in the lightly wooded lodge area, which has a fire pit, barbecue and hot tub. It was a lovely spot to relax and play. There are pretty walks to be had in the woods and the nearby Butterley Railway was interesting, quaint and loved by the children. (Two-for-one for Riddings guests.) The camp site was busy, it being May bank holiday weekend, and a bit noisy at night, but otherwise we had a delightful stay. It was definitely having the lodges to ourselves that made it, and I would highly recommend this strategy for a multi-family stay. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful....Read less.

I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the site and washrooms/toilets we lovely and clean and seemed pretty new in condition? There was no rubbish around the site which is great! But..I don’t know whether it’s bevause of it being a peak time or be it penny pinching but the camp site was a shambles of organisation with regards to setup of camping. We were four deep in a row meaning that the two in the middle either couldn’t park their car with their tent or caravan or those with camper vans could not get out. This to me is a fire hazard and very impractical for the visitors to the site.

The kids play area was abit lacking in things to do all be it very clean and well maintained.

There is no on site shop for essentials like milk bread etc (not that we are aware of anyway)

This is a lovely site but I would not return in a peak time due to layout....Read less.

We stayed on an unfortunately very wet weekend. Not unusual for April... however. Due to the site being so sloped, it very quickly became an utter boggy mess. We witnessed a trailer tent and 4x4 getting stuck where we helped push them out because the campsite have no towing facilities (I found this really unusual considering the sloped site). Many other vehicles including one in our own party also got stuck and were towed out by others. Personally, I was in a tent. I was located on a pitch at the bottom of the hill and was unable to drive my car to it due to the mud. This meant I had to park my trailer and car at the top of the him and walk everything down to the pitch when loading and unloading. In my opinion those particular pitches have not been given and consideration at all for rainy conditions. Whilst the weather cannot be helped, towing facilities and improved pitch access would have made a huge difference to my stay. I’m sad to say that despite the excellent toilet block, kids playground and good location of the site, I would never stay there again....Read less.

We have just returned after a 3 night stay, booked on a super pitch. We paid for an awning but the pitch was much narrower than other 'super pitches' and was like a mud bath so we couldn't put 1 up. When asking whether we could be refunded the price for the awning, we were informed the owner had said "no" which was disappointing. Our pitch was supposed to be a 16Amp pitch, but when we investigated due to the electrics constantly tripping out, we established it was only a 10Amp pitch. Most annoying as we couldn't boil the kettle all weekend, and had to keep turning the heating off to even put the microwave on, not great when caravanning in December! The other super pitchs were 16A, so why ours wasn't who knows.

Free wifi was good, but the electrics were awful and need sorting. Why should we have been expected to pay for a 16Amp pitch as advertised on their website) but it was only 10A. The roads were quite mucky too, so it was impossible to keep shoes clean.

It was a shame as this could be a nice site, but issues above need to be ironed out....Read less.

We decided to try this site as it is a lot nearer than the one we usually use in North Yorkshire.we particularly liked the fact it offered out of season camping and also allowed above ground fires.

We thought the site was well laid out with good access and the shower and toilet blocks warm with music and very clean.

The fact it had hard standing meant we could errect our gazebo and stand around the fire with dry feet was a bonus.

We are booking again for a summer trip with the family and again with the boys in December 2018. Many thanks John...Read less.

The plus side we did get to use the hot tub for an hour, the down side we wanted to go walking for the day, hence booking a park with an early check in!! We stayed at Ridding Wood on our way back towards London from a week up in the scottish highlands. We arrived later than the reception hours, but called in advance and the person we spoke to was very helpful giving us the code for the gate and directing us to their website to make the booking online. Very simple. When we arrived it was dark but we could see that there is a lovely view from the campsite over the neighbouring town. The facilities were clean and tidy and the pitches are well spaced so we didn't feel packed in. We didn't explore the surrounding area in detail, the towns adjacent felt a bit uninspiring, but the proximity to matlock and the derbyshire dales would make this a decent base for exploring slightly further afield....Read less.

I recently stayed at the park with my wife and our 2 year old grand son. The amenities were very clean and well kept. The pitch was ok however we did have to put our awning on the grass as the actual pitch was quite small so anyone else visiting i would recommend taking a plastic sheet to put under any awning carpet . The electric kept tripping at the post where it was plugged in which was a bit annoying and not the van i believe as we have not experienced this before on other parks but that said it was not a major issue and should not detract from what was an enjoyable stay which we all enjoyed. The park was ok and my grandson enjoyed the activities on it. The staff at the campsite helped us get set up when we arrived and helped us with an issue we had which was outwith anything to do with the campsite or the rally, which was very kind of them.

There was a mop & bucket to wipe the cubicle once finished showering, but the mop was dirty & dirty water in the bucket.( I suggest the mop gets changed through the day & to keep disinfectant water in the bucket, also to be changed throughout the day!!) We stayed for a 3 night camping experience with a large group of friends. Loved the stay and weather was fantastic that weekend! Easy to book and staff friendly on arrival. Campsite felt safe. Disappointed by the up hill hike to the toilet block from the tent no electric hook up spot...... which I have to be honest when desperate I did drive a few times, which is not always safe when kids are enjoying themselves! I did not shower but friends that did were disappointmented with the cleanliness of the showers, but the site was v busy that weekend! Some toilets did become out of order too, but we discovered that was due to inconsiderate campers flushing wild down the toilets! We went walking to condor castle on one of the days, which was fab! Stopping off at the thack for a pint.... although was disappointed to find (we were starving) that food was not served all day and they had run out of made up cobs (the staff commented that they had been busy and a lot of people had visited the pub from the site) so it might be worth considering that when advertising a pub that the times for food are also displayed! However this campsite was in lovely surrounding woods tht the kids loved, and found a rope swing to entertain themselves! With better toilets and maybe toilets in lower field this site would be fabulous....Read less.

Upon arriving, checking in and setting up was very easy however I was questioned about my booking. Having emailed back and forth and been on the phone, I was assured that my booking for the correct amount of people. however, despite coming with one less person we were stopped and questioned about the booking as they did not believe I had paid for us all. Having shown them my invoice and conversation with Tracey it appeared that they still did not believe me and was told to "leave it with them" - overall, not appearing to want to believe me.

We did pay for an electrical site but we chose not to use one as we decided to pitch up at the far end just to ensure we would not disturb the surrounding families. This is a benefit of the site as it is large enough to have your own space.

Very impressed with the wash facilities. They were always very clean and warm.

One thing we were disappointed by was the lack of open pubs or places to eat. We wanted to be able to go out on walks and find a place to eat and have a Drink. Having seen a poster for a local pub in the wash room with a menu we were excited to check it out. Once arriving we find that the kitchen is only open three days a week so we set out to find somewhere else. We visited 6 other pubs but found that they were either closed (despite some of them saying they were open online) and some that were open and said outside that they served food didnt actually once you went in and asked for a menu. This is not the fault of the campsite at all, however next time we would not book again here due to the lack of open, local places to eat which are in walking distance.

On arriving at the park (bank holiday weekend) the park was already starting to get full and people where rather packed in closely. We were put on the bottom pitches near the park as we had children and all the tents were pitched up on a slope (which was not ideal). Every other pitch had a bench table but you had to get there early to be able to get one!! The toilets and showers (ladies) weren't to bad to start off with, though there was only 2 showers and was told by my partner that there was 2 showers in the men's block but 1 was out of order (and was for the whole 3 days we were there). On the Friday evening I went to wash up and there was only 2 washing up sinks and 1 was blocked. The on-site warden was informed but couldn't unblock it as he didn't have any tools!! One of the campers managed to unblock it. On the Saturday afternoon 4 out of the 8 ladies toilets were blocked and they were down to 1 shower as well. Lucky for the wardens there was a camper that managed to unblock the toilets as well. The park needs some improving , which they said they are doing in the winter so would go back next year for a weekend to see if it's improved....Read less.

have visited the site a couple of times before. second visit we lost our pitch to someone while out exploring the area in our camper van. got moved to another pitch, but no wi fi there.

this visit the camping area of the site was packed and noisy, too many people crammed into one area and not enough shower facilities for everyone. after the weekend the site calmed down and emptied quite a bit and was much more comfortable.

our pitch was close to the path that led to the showers/wash up area etc. this path was constantly used by children hurtling down it on scooters and bikes which was dangerous as they skidded into the path of oncoming traffic and also were ending up on top of parked vehicles and caravans

on our last night new neighbours arrived and did not set up caravan until very late and were still noisily setting up airbeds at 1.30am. could not sleep that night....Read less.

The campsite was over booked by the previous site wardens and the new wardens were left to pick up the pieces. There was no system to the allocation of pitches however as we had children we were able to pitch in front of the park. People were camping on top of each other. The ladies toilets blocked and my brother in law kindly unblocked them had he not there would have only been 1 shower and three toilets out of action.

The toilet and shower facilities need to be improved and a better system for allocation of pitches which need to be marked out. Not sure if we would visit again as there are better campsite however the surrounding area was very nice. We visited Matlock falls and Buxton and visited the steam railway at butterly. Upon arriving late on the Friday evening we found the site very over booked. However, following discussion with the staff we were able to find a more suitable pitch for both ourselves and our friends for the weekend. Unfortunately it would appear the previous owners had over booked the site and the new owners were trying very hard to honour all customer bookings, this meant that many tents were very close together. It also meant that the one shower block for the whole site, although very clean, was always very busy and the men only had one working shower. Having said that we had a very enjoyable weekend at Riddings Wood (the weather certainly helped) and the children loved the play park. As we were with friends we were happy to be pitched close to each other but I'm not sure we would have felt the same if we hadn't known the people we were pitched next to....Read less.

We enjoyed our stay at Riddings Wood. The grounds were very tidy and organised, and the kids park facility was great! The only criticism I would have is that the shower and toilet facilities were not maintained enough. Every time me and my husband went in, they were dirty. Used sanitary pads on the floor in the combined toilet & shower area (seriously... a woman had put it next to the bin, not inside the bin!! Some women are just an embarrassment!), a mop bucket left full of dirty water, toilet blocked with a pile of wet dirty tissue paper on the floor next to the toilet. I couldn't understand why they were in this state early in the morning, when 2 members of park staff were just outside, monitoring people putting their waste in the bins?! Why not close the shower block for 10 mins to give it a quick clean? I understand it's difficult to continuously maintain when the campsite is in its busiest period, and unfortunately some people just have no respect for your facilities which is a great shame. There was also a serious issue with the drains... you could literally taste the smell, and it wasn't even particularly hot when we stayed. I think they just need a good clean. Overall though, I would consider staying here again....Read less.

Our first night and last night were wonderful, however due to camping on tje weekend we felt the friday to sunday nights were overbooked on the electric pitches. People were being allowed to pitch in large groups. Someone pitched their tent about 2 metres from ours and their sitting area beside our bedroom. This really spoilt our time away. I chose this park as the location was perfect and the space, toilets and playground all looked to be excellent. However before I arrived I read through reviews online and quickly became clued up on some common issues that occur on this campsite.

Upon arriving I witnessed 3 separate parties complaining about space issues surrounding their pitch (including an excess of cars surrounding each tent).

Although I had booked an electric pitch, I asked the lady who booked us in if going to a none electric pitch would be quieter and prevent us feeling crammed in. She said this would definitely be the case as it was cery over full right now! I was not offered a refund for the difference in price.

We went to find a pitch (there was a bit of an anywhere you like rule here) and got set up but we saw how close tents were surrounding the electric points and we were glad of our decision. Riddings need to take less bookings for electric points or increase how many pitches with electric there are! This place is stunning with the most superior toilets I've seen (albeit it took me a mile to get there, up hill due to the change in pitch!) and there really was a lovely park for kids! But the focus seemed to be on making as much money as possible and not on customer satisfaction!

Additionally I feel a better effort needs to be made with the bottom none electric field as it was not well maintained and is essentially just weeds instead of grass and no thought to where cars will drive or where pitches would be set up.

Also a £1 for a shower is another sure sign of money making.

Overall, a nice place with a lot of potential but also so frustrating to see how little they cared about clients versus how much they cared about income....Read less.

This was our first experience of camper van holiday. The staff were excellent, friendly, helpful and very patient with our son, who has autism. The washing up facilities were very good and always clean, although if there had been a small bin in there it might have encouraged others not to leave plate scraps in the sink. Toilets were on the whole clean and showers were okay although bucket to wash shower floor after use was often full of dirty water which didn't help with cleaning. On the whole an excellent site. We'd definitely go back again....Read less.

This booking was for a group of 4 18yr old lads about to start uni. My son could not get the shower to work but isn't one to cause a fuss so didn't report it. We stayed here for a weekend break in a trailer tent. Staff were welcoming and the facilities were good. Showers were free instead of £1 for ladies. The toilet facilities cannot cope with the number of people who can stay on site. On my visit one urinal was constantly leaking, all over the floor. You had to step over urinal water to reach the others. Two showers is not enough. Charging £1 per shower is a joke - lots of campsites no longer charge for showers. When asked if I was happy and likely to return I said no. My friends left 2 days earlier than planned because they were uncomfortable. I left a day early. Was not offered any sort of compensation. We chose this site to stay at with friends having a mix of tents and caravans between us. We booked 4 pitches andd were assured these were together however upon arrival we found that pitches are unmarked and available on a first come first serve basis. Most people were looking for a number of pitches together to be with friends so lots of unnecessary stress was caused before even set up.

We were lucky with the weather and having pitched on the bottom field our children were able to play in the park whenever they wished and we could use the field for playing games.

Overall first impression of the site was very good. The toilet and shower facilities were excellent but more attention is needed to keep on top of the cleanliness. Washing up, and washing facilities were good. The camp seemed to be a work in progress and the urinals in the gents were leaking and both the men's and ladies showers were prone to flooding as the drainage in the shower units were fitted in the wrong place. A shop would be a great asset to the site. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Biggest downside to our stay was the traffic noise and trains late night and early morning. Arrived at site with camper van and was sent to a pitch which was very unsuitable. Pitch 11. First of all the smell was atrocious which was presumably coming from the toilet block. Secondly the electric hook up point was not working and it wasn't until a person parked next to us said that it hadn't been working for weeks. I went to reception and was told by the woman that she was very sorry but had only been working there a week. She very kindly moved us to another pitch which was a lot better and definitely no smell.

The toilet/shower block was in a very bad state. No soap in the dispensers, toilet tissue on the floor and no mirrors on one side where the sinks were situated. The two showers were dirty and on top of the fee paid for the pitch you were expected to pay another £1 for a shower. Apparently the mens shower/toilet area was worse and very unclean.

The site was about 80 per cent full but I do not feel that this was an excuse for poor and dirty facilities. We will not be visiting this site again but maybe if less full it could of been better....Read less.

The pitch we were allocated is not level, in fact many of them are not level by a good margin. Premium pitches are level, but there aren't many of them. This was not obvious from the website and gallery. The new staff had only been there a week and were very helpful and pleasant. The washrooms constantly had standing water in the middle of the mens and were not cleaned from the point we arrived around lunchtime on the Saturday, to the point we left on Sunday morning. The campers generally don't follow any form of Campsite etiquette and tramp across pitches in the most direct line to the toilets and bins. The one way system is largely unobserved and cars travelled through the site and between tents at potentially dangerous speeds. The local village has two pubs. One was closed (The Seven Stars) and the other (The Thack), despite advertising 'Food Served Daily' decided that the cook couldn't take an order for lunch (2x Jacket Spuds, nothing complex) at 1:45pm because she had just had an order for 10 people and had better things to do that afternoon. No flexibility, no warm welcome and not much interest. The nearest supermarket is a good walk away through a fairly uninspiring town with other pubs that specialise in beer and not a lot else, oh other than smoking!! The Nisa supermarket is as bad as the town. If you want to continue walking further on through this dismal place, there is a Co-op....Read less.

Overall we were really impressed with our stay. Staff super friendly and helpful and showed us where we could pitch up. Very professional looking site, much nicer than a lot of camp sites we've been to - large toilet and shower facilities. Also really helpful that there was a separate dog walking area for our three dogs. Large campsite which was very busy at the time of visit. Can't review children's facilities as we don't have kids, but from a distance the play equipment seemed popular. We spent two nights at Riddings Wood in one of their newly-opened lodges. It was spotlessly clean with every facility you could want, and having its own shower room was the icing on the cake. Only criticism is that there ought to be a few hooks on one of the walls to hang clothes.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

A nice looking site but hardstandings are not level. Showers cost £1 for 10 minutes which was not obvious on website and seemed extortionate considering the cost of the site fees. Not enough clothing hooks in toilet block. And only 2 showers in each of gents and ladies seems a low number for the size of the site. My boyfriend & I stayed for a long weekend and it was a very relaxing and peaceful holiday. Would definitely recommend to others and being able to use the hot tub for a specified time slot of our choice made the holiday that little bit more relaxing. The staff were super friendly & couldn't do enough for us. Definitely planning on coming back! Thank you :)...Read less.

The gravel roads are not suitable for towing

Just can't get any traction especially at the bottom of field. Ladies toilets were not as clean as when we stopped before.

The campsite is set out in the Derbyshire countryside on the top of hill with hard pitches towards the top and soft pitches down the bottom. We received a friendly greeting and allocated a pitch towards the bottom of the hill near the playground. Access to the pitch was awkward on the dirt track and grass due to the rain and downhill slope, this also posed a few issues when pitching the tent as beds and furniture slipped, pots were not level on the stoves.

The area was clean and well spaced out, the shower block was clean and showers powerful (take lots of old pound coins), easy access to chemical drain and fresh water. Children's play area kept our kids occupied all day.

Close proximity to Co-op and Tesco, 2 country pubs within 5 minutes walk, woodlands path surrounding the site for walk and exploring.

Note for caravans: a few people struggled up the hill when leaving on the grit driveways - a few front wheel spins were going on.

Recommend the site and would return, although levelling the steep pitches wouldn't go a miss....Read less.

The only negative was that the pitch we had was on a very steep hill so had to drop the front of the caravan to the bottom and the rear had to be jacked up to the max with wooden blocks we also had to jack up one side under the wheel a good test though as this was our very first trip out as new caravan owners - it can only get easier from here....Read less.

Supposed to be a fully serviced pitch, could not use the drain due to postition of services. Water does not travel uphill. Grass needed cutting.

A very relaxed campsite with a great park in the middle for kids! A slight slope on the main tent camp site but nothing to worry about too much. Lovely pub 'The Thack' in the main village too!

Nice campsite with good local pub.

Sloping site for non hook up pitches but ok near the trees.

Only one male shower was working on our visit which made for a sweaty weekend.

Otherwise great.

Went for a long weekend and was lucky we had the hottest days of the year. Campsite was lovely and clean although on a very steep hill. My 6 year old spent most of his time on the park and made lots of friends. Local pub the Thack only a 10 min walk although nothing there for the children. Had Sunday dinner it wasn't anything amazing but all home made. Site was lovely and clean only thing I would recommend is maybe put some bins closer to the play area. Lots of local attractions near by and a woodland walk close by. Staff were extreamly friendly and helpful too. Only 2 showers in the ladies and £1 for ten mins although I never actually had to wait along time to get into the showers....Read less.

Really had a brilliant family holiday. Site relatively quiet so facilities may be a problem in high season as on 2 showers available for women and also 2 for gents.
