There were 2 adults and 2 children staying in one of the lodges, and though it was clean and tidy, it would be helpful if there was more storage space even just a shelf. Also somewhere to hang coats would have been useful. Only 2 small hooks in the bathroom to hang towels between 4 of us was a bit of a pain. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and the children loved the hot tub!...Read less.

we had a great time at the lodge which catered for dogs. only downside would be is that there was no cutlery, plates, bowls or frying pan and although that is fine this was not stipulated in the details and we assumed there would be a random few things to eat with being a lodge not camping. all the other lodge were the same with everyone having to go out a buy plates and cutlery and a frying pan. Not a problem but needs to clearly state this on the details. We asked at reception and was told to buy them a B & M and then another lodge asked and was given some?

Other than that a great place to stay, very clean and beautiful and great value. The local village does not have nay eating pubs but there is a great pub called the Thorntree nearby by car which was excellent

Thank you for a great few days away. We would definitely come back - great for dogs - perfect lodge set up - well done....Read less.

Lovely friendly campsite. The staff are warm and welcoming and will go that extra mile to help you if needed. We camped next to the children's play area which they both loved. The only issue was getting off the bottom field after a heavy downpour. Very slippy and uphill so the cars really struggled. This was our only issue and once the grass dried up it was fine. The showers and toilets were clean. Only two showers but this never seemed a problem. Lots to do I the surrounding area such as Gulliver's World, Hardwick Hall, Chatsworth and Balsover Castle. I would definitely recommend this campsite as a good base to explore the Peak District....Read less.

We booked this site due to location. We needed somewhere close to home and this was 15 minutes away but it sure felt like miles from home which was an amazing feeling. The lady on reception greeted me by name as she was expecting me as our friends had already checked in. I was given all the information I needed and told where to pitch. The field was on a slope but I was prepared for this. We had a pitch right in front of the kids play park which was perfect for my daughter (11) and nephew (7). It was great in the evening when all the parents brought there children down it had a real community feel to it.

The toilet block was warm and clean in fact I witnessed it being cleaned at least 3 times day.

My daughter loved popping into the office for sweets. It would be nice if they stocked other basics like milk and bread.

I will definitely be returning soon.

Our first night and last night were wonderful, however due to camping on tje weekend we felt the friday to sunday nights were overbooked on the electric pitches. People were being allowed to pitch in large groups. Someone pitched their tent about 2 metres from ours and their sitting area beside our bedroom. This really spoilt our time away. Management wouldnt ask them to move despite that it was way closer than 6m fire safety because it would cause hassle but offered us to move.... So we had to take down our tent and move to a non electric part of the site. It was really disappointing.

However management were helpful with everything else. Showers broke whilst we were there and toilets were nice but not kept very clean over the busy weekend.

Over all not a disaster but not brilliant either....Read less.

Great campsite with a lovely children's play area. It is in the Peak District so it's set on a bit of a hill so be prepared to pitch on a slight incline if you're in a tent. If you're in a caravan most of the pitches have been levelled out. We explored the woods nearby and played ball games in the area next to the play area. The site has a great atmosphere. Showers and toilets were clean enough. The guys that run it were fab, really friendly and accommodating. Which left no place for children to have a kick about play etc.yes there was a play park but i dont like children to play where i cant see them.Only 2 sinks to wash pots for whole of park so was a consent queue. Having a shower was a joke not only did you have to pay £1.00 1 shower room so small no place for towel clothes etc it's was easier to get dressed in toilet the other shower room bigger with a toilet but room just flooded . There was a issue with load noise but after ringing wardon he did go and ask them to reduce noise which they did . You do have to pitch on slopes which makes for sleeping hard but fun . When I challenged it I was told by the rude possibly stressed warden to move it or pack your things and go. Not what the kids or we needed. Apart from that it is a lovely site. I chose this park as the location was perfect and the space, toilets and playground all looked to be excellent. However before I arrived I read through reviews online and quickly became clued up on some common issues that occur on this campsite.

Upon arriving I witnessed 3 separate parties complaining about space issues surrounding their pitch (including an excess of cars surrounding each tent).

Although I had booked an electric pitch, I asked the lady who booked us in if going to a none electric pitch would be quieter and prevent us feeling crammed in. She said this would definitely be the case as it was cery over full right now! I was not offered a refund for the difference in price.

We went to find a pitch (there was a bit of an anywhere you like rule here) and got set up but we saw how close tents were surrounding the electric points and we were glad of our decision. Riddings need to take less bookings for electric points or increase how many pitches with electric there are! This place is stunning with the most superior toilets I've seen (albeit it took me a mile to get there, up hill due to the change in pitch!) and there really was a lovely park for kids! But the focus seemed to be on making as much money as possible and not on customer satisfaction!

Additionally I feel a better effort needs to be made with the bottom none electric field as it was not well maintained and is essentially just weeds instead of grass and no thought to where cars will drive or where pitches would be set up.

Also a £1 for a shower is another sure sign of money making.

Overall, a nice place with a lot of potential but also so frustrating to see how little they cared about clients versus how much they cared about income....Read less.

This was our first experience of camper van holiday. The staff were excellent, friendly, helpful and very patient with our son, who has autism. The washing up facilities were very good and always clean, although if there had been a small bin in there it might have encouraged others not to leave plate scraps in the sink. We chose this site to stay at with friends having a mix of tents and caravans between us. We booked 4 pitches andd were assured these were together however upon arrival we found that pitches are unmarked and available on a first come first serve basis. Most people were looking for a number of pitches together to be with friends so lots of unnecessary stress was caused before even set up.

Washing up, and washing facilities were good. Arrived at site with camper van and was sent to a pitch which was very unsuitable. Pitch 11. First of all the smell was atrocious which was presumably coming from the toilet block. Secondly the electric hook up point was not working and it wasn't until a person parked next to us said that it hadn't been working for weeks. I went to reception and was told by the woman that she was very sorry but had only been working there a week. She very kindly moved us to another pitch which was a lot better and definitely no smell.

The toilet/shower block was in a very bad state. No soap in the dispensers, toilet tissue on the floor and no mirrors on one side where the sinks were situated. The two showers were dirty and on top of the fee paid for the pitch you were expected to pay another £1 for a shower. Apparently the mens shower/toilet area was worse and very unclean.

The site was about 80 per cent full but I do not feel that this was an excuse for poor and dirty facilities. We will not be visiting this site again but maybe if less full it could of been better....Read less.

The pitch we were allocated is not level, in fact many of them are not level by a good margin. Premium pitches are level, but there aren't many of them. This was not obvious from the website and gallery. The new staff had only been there a week and were very helpful and pleasant. The washrooms constantly had standing water in the middle of the mens and were not cleaned from the point we arrived around lunchtime on the Saturday, to the point we left on Sunday morning. The campers generally don't follow any form of Campsite etiquette and tramp across pitches in the most direct line to the toilets and bins. The one way system is largely unobserved and cars travelled through the site and between tents at potentially dangerous speeds. The local village has two pubs. One was closed (The Seven Stars) and the other (The Thack), despite advertising 'Food Served Daily' decided that the cook couldn't take an order for lunch (2x Jacket Spuds, nothing complex) at 1:45pm because she had just had an order for 10 people and had better things to do that afternoon. No flexibility, no warm welcome and not much interest. The nearest supermarket is a good walk away through a fairly uninspiring town with other pubs that specialise in beer and not a lot else, oh other than smoking!! we had stayed in a lodge on this occasion and loved it we had the bedding what was to die for, one thing for us which we think would better would be to have a small amount of cutlery and plates within the lodges, I'm not sure if there was any information on the site regarding this saying to bring your own but to be honest i didn't thoroughly read through it.

We have a bell tent and cook everything on the stove so this was excellent.

Only thing we didn't like if I'm been really picky is that your constantly on the hunt for old pound coins to use any of the electrics in the wash/shower block.

Facilities great just not enough showers and washing machine and dryer don't work properly. The campsite is set out in the Derbyshire countryside on the top of hill with hard pitches towards the top and soft pitches down the bottom. We received a friendly greeting and allocated a pitch towards the bottom of the hill near the playground. Access to the pitch was awkward on the dirt track and grass due to the rain and downhill slope, this also posed a few issues when pitching the tent as beds and furniture slipped, pots were not level on the stoves.

The area was clean and well spaced out, the shower block was clean and showers powerful (take lots of old pound coins), easy access to chemical drain and fresh water. Children's play area kept our kids occupied all day.

Close proximity to Co-op and Tesco, 2 country pubs within 5 minutes walk, woodlands path surrounding the site for walk and exploring.

Note for caravans: a few people struggled up the hill when leaving on the grit driveways - a few front wheel spins were going on.

Recommend the site and would return, although levelling the steep pitches wouldn't go a miss....Read less.

Good points: it was easy to get to, and you could access the site from 1130am. The views are stunning and local facilities are all within a short walking distance. The local pub (Moulders Arms) does an amazing Sunday lunch at a reasonable price.

Bad points: states that it is on a slight incline - unless you are on one of the serviced pitches at the top, this is not technically true - the slope was very steep for those that were in tents. The showers cost £1 (old coins not the new ones) - the box for this is OUTSIDE the showers and your time starts as soon as you have put your money in. On top of this, there are only 2 showers in each wash area - just not enough for the number of people there.

Over 75 pitches - all of which were occupied on our Bank Holiday visit - and only 2 showers in mens toilets and 2 in the ladies toilets. Showers ran hot and cold and getting dried on a wet floor was impossible with small children. £1.00 for 10 minutes was the most I have ever had to pay at a campsite.

Campsite rule of "Dogs always on leads" were ignored and we suffered dog fouling next to the childrens play area. As a dog owner it was frustrating that some owners just dont have any consideration.

Only other gripe was that all the electric hook-up camping pitches were on a slope so be prepared as the photos are alittle deceptive....Read less.

Not a good start, on arrival, our allocated pitch was occupied by somebody else. Although pretty surroundings, this site is on the side of a hill making life difficult.

The facilities on this site are not adequate for the amount of pitches. Only two showers in the ladies, which a £1 charge for 10 minutes is made. This is not mentioned on the website. Only two sinks in the pot washing area.

The electrical hook up points are too far away from some of the pitches.

The toilet/shower block is of wood construction and although new, is already started to look grubby.

There was no evidence of cleaning over the weekend we stayed, a mop was provided to mop the shower area over, this was black with dirt when we arrived and was in the same condition when we left.

Overall, I feel the site owner is trying to run before he/she can walk. Maybe it would have been a good idea to spend some money on getting the facilities up to scratch for the existing pitches before building luxury cabins.

I definitely feel we paid far too much for the facilities offered and for the location of the site....Read less.

While the site was clean, and the toilet facilities were clean and warm, we camped with electric hook up, these pitches are crowded and on a steep incline. We did not have space to erect our tent awning as the pitches are small, the electricity continually 'tripped out' for the first 2 days.

There are insufficient toilet facilities for the number of pitches, 2 showers in the ladies and mens toilets for over 70 units is woefully poor. The shower was either freezing cold or scalding hot. on several evenings there was no toilet paper in several cubicles.

Disappointing that there are no recycling bins on site, all glass, tins, cardboard etc are going into the landfill - not very environmentally friendly!

Where the grass had been mown it would be better if this were collected as we spent the whole weekend sweeping it out of the tent....Read less.

The site is on a steep hillside, with far too many kerbs. For a campsite which caters for tents as well as tourers, the 4 showers just aren't enough - and the £1 charged per shower isn't mentioned on the site's website. We I'd like to start with saying we stayed here last year and found the site perfect in every way so we came again last weekend

We arrived to a friendly warden who pointed us in the right direction of our pitch.

The main problem for us with the site was the grass it has obviously been left long then mown down but the grass was not collected leaving lots of loose grass it was everywhere

In the caravan, in the car, in the toilets and showers which was not anywhere neer as clean as the last time we stayed. Now I understand it was very busy and the mess travels with traffic in and out the toilet block but I visited numerous times through the day and it was just as bad every time I went ,there was also lots of kids playing in and out the toilets, now I have my own young kids so by no means am I moaning about kids playing.but we wouldn't dream of letting them play in the toilets or make mess in site facilities.

The play park is fantastic our kids absolutely loved that and other than the above we still like the site just perhaps a few changes need to be made

The site did not reflect the description on Cool Camping. It was relatively urban. It bordered Riddings Wood which is quite small but we passed through housing almost continually once we had left the motorway and the view was across housing. The trees sheltered it from most views thankfully. It was not cheap for this time of year yet campers were expected to pay another £1 every time they wanted to shower. At those pitch charges the showers should have been free. There were no washroom cubicles to give you an alternative means of washing so most campers felt obliged to pay out for a shower. The pitches were hard standing but they were far from those standards found in the majority of park these days. The hard standing was not level and in some places distinctly sloping. The gravel had not been renewed for some time and was full of weeds. There were workman on the site building Glamping pods. They chose to burn their rubbish at the edge of the camp site. This fire smouldered for the length of our stay. The rubbish included cushionfloor scraps that gave off an obnoxious smell. The breeze was across the campsite so no one could escape this smell....Read less.

But we were really shocked at the facilities on offer at the site when we arrived, from the booking in procedures, site layout, cleanliness, facilities and the security it was fantastic.

We had a great time at the site, the owners were amazingingly helpful and friendly. The site is clean and well cared for, the new washrooms are lovely. Only pin t for me is we visitited during autumn half term so site was quite quiet but I can imagine 2 showers in the gents and (I guess) the same in the ladies would be pretty busy for 100+ pitches during the summer. Remember to take some £1 coins too as the showers are £1 for 10 mins. There is loads to see and do in the local area so everyone should find something to keep them happy....Read less.

I would like to congratulate you on your staff who were very helpful & very friendly & made you feel at home.

They are a real asset to your Park.

Our pitch was plenty big enough with water, drainage in a beautiful setting of trees & lovely views.

Could do with more showers & privacy cubicles for washbasins especially at busy times.

We are a Motorhome so we had to rely on public transport which the stop was a short walk from the park.

We went on the bus to Alfreton & Nottingham which runs hourly.

We stayed here as travelled a long way to part exchange our caravan with a motorhome. The site was recommended to us by the local dealers and they weren't wrong. It has one of the easiest arrival areas I've ever come across and everything on site is brand new. The shower/toilet block was also brand new, well heated and very clean. We didn't use the showers as we showered in our MH and I know some people that have reviewed the site, disagree with the £1 charge for them (I think it was £1 for 10 mins). I would not let it put you off, as I think the niceness of the site more than makes up for it. The wardens were lovely and very helpful. Would definitely stay here again if we are ever up that way....Read less.

The Campsite is very well laid out on the side of a hill with a lovely view, it's a well cared for Site . The only thing that needs improving is not all the full service pitches are suitable for drainage as they are up hill, 2,4 & 6 are not strictly full service and therefore not value for money . Apart from that the site is Superb and well worth a visit , Security fence on Perimeter needs to be higher, would make the site feel more secure, Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and will definitely be returning again , Thanks to Stuart & Sue for being so helpful....Read less.

We wanted a cheap weekend break for myself the wife and our 2 dogs, had a look at the internet and found a caravan and camping site in golden valley after working out the costs overlooked that site and found this one... booked on the internet and arrived on the day, checked in and was shown to our pitch the staff were very helpful and throughout the break asked a few times if we were enjoying our stay to which we replied yes. The site was clean and tidy and well maintained toilets and showers as you would expect so thankyou ridding wood......

My only criticism is having to pay for the dogs and a lot of sites do this now, but I don't agree with this, after all if we didn't have dogs we wouldn't have a caravan and wouldn't be there at all, I just think a lot of sites have jumped on the band wagon and incurred these extra charges to boost revenue which is a shame........Read less.

Due to so much slope on the park it was very difficult to find a flatish pitch for the tent and were unable to get all three tents together. Toilet and shower block was lovely clean and well stocked when we arrived Friday, by Sunday morning it was dirty and only one toilet out of eight had paper at one point!

Staff very friendly and as helpful as you could need. Children's play area was brilliant when teenagers weren't on there trying to see if they could break the swings!

Also no curfew time meant that other tents nearby were very noisy until 2/3 in the morning.

Chose to spend last weekend of summer holidays here and to try out a serviced pitch for he first time.

Site is well kept, the serviced pitches are in a great location, the views across the site were great, the new toilet block was great and the children's park fantastic.

Only downside was that on pitch 4 the drain for the waste is higher than the pitch itself, so gravity works against you and the waste water doesn't drain anywhere apart from the shower tray of the caravan!!!

Pointed this out to the wardens once they were back on site on the Sunday and they said they hadn't realised it could be a problem and would let owners know. So we couldn't fully try out a serviced pitch for the first time!

Might come back to the park but would request an odd numbered pitch next time....Read less.

Incredibly helpful wardens, giving us a hand to get the caravan onto the pitch (our car just slipped on the grass), more helpful than most other sites - thanks!

Could do with selling a few essentials on site although there is a Co-op just up the road.

We were hugely disappointed in our visit to riddings wood. We had booked as a group of three tents to be sited together. When we arrived on the Friday we were shown to an area to pitch by a very helpful Stuart. Shortly afterwards another group were brought to pitch next to us meaning there was not enough room for either group to have all their tents together.

Overall the site was well overbooked for the number of facilities. There were long queues for cold showers. Even longer queues for washing up. It may have been a bank holiday but I expect a site to only book a number of pitches durable to their facilities. 2 women's showers for well in excess of 100 pitches is not acceptable....Read less.

We visited over the bank holiday weekend. the site was extremely busy which we expected but pitches were very cramped. The size of the pitch we were allocated was disappointing. we put the caravan on the pitch and the awning was over the grass on a massive slant. the pitch on one side was so close to the other caravans that there dog could walk to our awning when tide up outside. yet the other side there was lots of space but was on the back side of the caravan so pritty useless to us.

the wash facilities were clean but were very disappointment with having to pay extra for the shower. this is not clear on the website and i actually had to search many pages on the site to find this after we arrived. the pay meters for the showers being outside the very tiny cubical isn't very good. u either lose time in the shower getting undressed or have to come out in a towel to put money in..highly embarrassing! the shower i used was hot then cold hot then cold and you couldn't swing a cat in the cubical to get changed after.

On the day of departure the bins were so UN hygienic and more bins were needed as bin bags and rubbish was thrown all over the are.

The staff were lovely and friendly and they made our stay what it was. with a bit of work the site would be perfect for us....Read less.

Upon arrival the owners were very helpful/friendly & remained so throughout our stay. This campsite has a play area/park which our son enjoyed & it appeared to be quite new.We could also see him playing from our pitch which was great for peace of mind. The toilets were also kept clean throughout our stay unlike some other campsites we have stayed at.There's lots to do in the surrounding area & we especially enjoyed our visit to Bakewell! ...There were some issues which I'm hoping the owners have & will consider: There are only 5 showers in total (2 male, 2 female & 1 disabled) which becomes very very busy in the morning. The showers were so busy infact that they were allowing people to use the disabled showers. This campsite would benefit from atleast 3 extra showers each in the men & women & an extra disabled toilet/shower.There's also has a security gate but people can simply enter the park via the woods which happened many times when we were there. There was also the smell of sewage for the duration of our stay.1/2 the tent piches were on a slope including ours which meant that all tables had to be propped in order to keep drinks/food from sliding off.It had rained a few days of our stay & because the drive to most of the tent pitches aren't paved/stoned, a couple of cars got stuck in the mud & had to be towed out. We've stayed at many campsites over the years & personally wouldn't return here unless most of these issues were addressed but as i said before the owners are very helpful & also appear to be sensible people so i believe they will make improvements in due course to make this campsite better...Read less.

We stayed at Riddings having been rained off elsewhere and after finding it on the Internet. Sue and Stuart very friendly and accommodating managers. You would not think that you were only 300 metres from a town. It's a lovely setting for a camp site. A little bit slopey but our camping pitch with electric hook up was great.

It's titled as an economic friendly site - it's the only bit I have to disagree with. There's no recycle facilities, all rubbish goes into the same bins which can be left to be over full and a bit whiffy. When full they should be locked making people use the others available bins.

Also a couple more washing up sinks would be very useful.

Wash/shower facilities were excellent.

A very nice small site with a great kids play area and good clean facilities. It's basic but good and we didn't need a site with too much on as we were visiting family near by. Pretty much anywhere on the park is within site of the play area and wash facilities. These were clean and well lit. Only downside was queing for showers which then fluctuated from hot to cold constantly no matter what the dial was set to. Fine for me but not for my kids. This is only the 2nd time we've been camping, and we are certainly fair weather campers, we left it until 2 days before to get an idea of what the weather forcast would be like before we booked, and Riddings Wood was one of a few places that had availability at short notice in the summer holidays. We weren't let down however though, the site is very well maintained, the wash facilities were fab, the toilets were clean and tidy, the showers good, although a shame you have to pay for them really.

The children loved the play area and the freedom, the onsite warden went around during the evening when a family near by had music still playing at 10pm and asked them to turn it down and keep the noise down.

I would definitely recommend riddings wood, and we will be back in the future....Read less.
